Prayer Requests 3-18-16

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 129

¹Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.

The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.

Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:

Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.

  1. A very sweet end to the term. God put the day together in a way that only He can. Little touches here and there as God wrote the days plan.
I took a cake for a friend’s birthday and we changed it and had it be for four birthday gals. The first celebration we have had this year. I told my class that it was a teacher’s birthday and some of the students went and picked flowers. As I came out of the staff room, there they were waiting in the office. I went back and got the birthday gals and my class presented each of them with some flowers.

  2. That’s sweet, Jo. What a blessing.

I’m leading Bible study in about 45 minutes — in 2nd Peter 1. I woke up with a headache and sore throat, and have hardly any voice at the moment…

  3. It is minor but please pray for our weather today. The artists have come from all over to set up for a 3 day weekend of art show and sales. They want good weather so people will come.

  4. Carol’s home from the hospital. I had a voicemail from her last night, she’s upset that someone swapped out her favorite shower chair at the residence, the one with her name written on it with a permanent marker. 🙂 She said she’s going to file a formal complaint with the house ombudsman if it isn’t quickly returned. Guess she’s feeling better.

  5. Karen, my nephew repeated kindergarten. He is actually an extremely intelligent guy, which has been shown throughout the years. You cannot under estimate the importance of maturity. It is no more shameful than a baby being a baby. Why would you put someone down for it?

  6. Kathaleena – That is how we are looking at it, that it is a matter of maturity & not being ready rather than a matter of intelligence.

When I was little, we didn’t learn our alphabet or numbers or anything like that until first grade. Nowadays, they are teaching a lot of that in preschool (which he did not attend).

We know a few people who repeated either kindergarten or first grade, but are very intelligent people. One grew up to be a lawyer.

One example of Forrest’s intelligence: His teacher said that while other children often use their fingers to help count while doing math, she will see Forrest thinking it out in his head, & he is usually correct.

  7. Thank you for the prayers. The Bible study went well, and my voice didn’t get any worse. 😉

Chas, I really appreciate the thoughts and related Bible verses you shared with me regarding the early verses of 2 Peter 1. We spent 3/4 of the hour looking up and discussing those verses, and they provided excellent context for the “brotherly kindness” part of verse 7 that I planned on going over. Timing was perfect, as the related verses I shared for brotherly kindness, together with the verses you gave me, added up to the full hour of the class! Thank you!

  8. NancyJill, thanks for asking. The student’s grandmother dropped him off and picked him up, so I had no contact with his parents that night. They did send a letter of withdrawal. The parents are displeased with my studio policy and that I enforce it. Good riddance, my husband says, after some shenanigans of theirs that I haven’t mentioned on here. I will miss the boy after he’s done, though (four more lessons), and I still have concerns about his home situation. He’ll be on my prayer list rather than my student roster.

  9. My dear friend Bev, whom I mentioned on the Wednesday prayer thread, is now home with the Lord. Praising God for her salvation, and weeping, too, here on this side.

Pray for her family. Her three adult children lost both their parents in less than a 7-month period. There are numerous grandchildren and some great-grands, too, as well as other relatives and many, many friends.

  10. Headache’s not going away today, and my crying (grieving) isn’t helping it.

Could you pray, too, that my cough would go away once and for all? I haven’t entirely gotten rid of it since its development when I had the flu late last month, and it’s picked up lately, to the point my ribcage area is sore again with every cough.

    Thanks.

  11. Karen, my son who is now getting his PhD, fully funded by scholarship, did kindergarten twice because he was the youngest. Tell R that Forrest will have the advantage of being older than others, an extra year to build knowledge and skills, so he will Excell in testing that leads to college scholarships. That fact alone convinced one reluctant dad of another student back when our son was that age to let their daughter do a second year of kindergarten. Also, as an older one , Forrest will develop leadership skills instead of being a young follower.

  12. My friend Susan’s husband Paul had a heart attack this morning. He is in the hospital. I don’t know how serious it was. (Of course, having a heart attack is serious, but some are more critical than others.)

Susan is a strong believer, but I don’t think her husband is. Not even sure if he is a believer at all. (So prayers for his salvation, too, please.)

  13. Please pray for Chrissy. I had to give her some bad news, via email this evening. (Because these conversations are very hard for her to have face-to-face, but with an email, she can have her emotional reaction, then process it privately.)

Due to financial constraints, we will no longer be able to pay her for babysitting Forrest. (Emily has also been struggling to pay her half of it, because R doesn’t work every week, so she doesn’t get child support every week. Also, her job doesn’t always give her as many hours as she’d like.)

There is a state program, Care4Kids, that Emily could apply for, that would pay Chrissy to babysit. But last time Emily looked at it, the requirements for Chrissy to be eligible as a caregiver caused her much anxiety, & she didn’t want to do it, deciding she was content with the little we & Emily could pay her.

She would be required to do take a three-hour class some evening, & to get into the class, she would first have to get a photo ID from the DMV. Now, those two things may not seem like much to most of you, but the anxiety she has (as I’ve previously mentioned many times, we strongly suspect she has Asperger’s Syndrome, or is in some way “on the spectrum”) can be overwhelming to her.

My heart aches for her, but I know I cannot – & should not – protect her from all the anxiety-inducing things in life.

Praying that any anxiety she feels because of that email will cause her to cry out to God. Praying the Holy Spirit will be right there with her as she reads, & as she reacts, & that she will be aware of His presence (& His comfort, reality, & love).

  14. Husband is a tad overwhelmed. He had just put seven hundred dollars into repairs of the Cadillac (which daughter hated but needed to use as she had nothing else and only wanted to buy a brand new car), when eighteen year old daughter fell asleep at the wheel and totaled it. He had just put five hundred into the Subaru and seventeen year old had just replaced the brakes when, it appears, it was totaled. Now, mind you, it does not take much to total our cars. One had two hundred thousand miles and was nearly twenty years old, the other had about the same and was about as old. But, they were cars the young adults could drive until they had worked enough to buy themselves what they wanted. I reminded him that fifteen children and no injury accidents is a pretty good record. But, still, I understand. Especially with his health concerns and realizing that this last infusion did not help a lot. The Holy Spirit knows how to pray. Thanks.

  15. Another redo-kindergarten guy-friendly hint: if Forrest plays sports, it will be to his advantage in most to be older, bigger, and more athletically skilled. If he’s the youngest and smallest, it will be a disadvantage.
