Prayer Requests 3-17-16

It’s Thursday, so don’t forget to pray for Jo, her students, and the people of PNG.

Anyone else?

Psalm 128

¹Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways.

For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord.

The Lord shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life.

Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace upon Israel.

  1. Tomorrow is the last student day of Term 3. I am looking forward to the 2 week break. Please pray that we will all finish well and for good and clear communication at the parent conferences on Monday and Tuesday. Also there is a lot of sickness going around. One of my boys has now missed 4 days of school and I hear that the rest of his family is also sick.

  2. Praying for our country, praying for the Believers in our country to step up in prayer and action and words. Prayer for nonbelievers in our country, that their eyes would be opened to the Kingdom of God.

  3. Jo – Does MAF = Mission Aviation Fellowship? Kyle Ambrose, a former WMB regular & current Facebook friend of mine, works for them as an English teacher in Wamena, Papua, Indonesia. You two are practically neighbors! 😉

  4. Mumsee – One of my prayers for our nation, besides a much-needed spirit of repentance, is for people to start to see the truth about the various sexual perversions that have been not only accepted, but embraced. Praying that people will come to see how those living the gay & lesbian lifestyles are broken people, & that immersing themselves in that life has not helped them, but hurt them. Praying that people will come to see trans people as broken people, who are not any happier years after supposedly changing their sex, but often are more miserable. Praying that the reality of those lives will become clearly seen, & people will turn away from embracing & advocating those things.

It is too bad that there seems to be a false dichotomy about all of that – that we either hate & shame them, or we accept & embrace their sin.

  5. Emily & R each received a letter from Forrest’s school, advising them to consider having Forrest repeat kindergarten next year. Emily had realized from the beginning of the year that that might happen, & she knows it would be best for him, for his future scholastic success.

R, however, is having a fit about it. As a narcissist, he sees Forrest as merely an extension of himself, & he sees Forrest being kept back as reflecting on him. Emily is trying to calmly explain to him why it would be best for Forrest.

The school may make the suggestion, but they will only keep Forrest back if both parents agree.

Forrest has made great strides, & is learning so much, but he is younger than the other children, so his progress, although great for him, isn’t keeping step with most of the other children. We believe this would be the best thing for him.

Please pray R changes his mind. (He will have a meeting with the teacher, which could help.)

  6. Praying, Karen. You know my opinion of too early kindergarten.

In our house, the eighteen year old boy is still pushing. Husband has been sending him to town to get a job but neither of us think he is putting much effort into the search. He went to the job training place a couple of days ago but they could not help him because he forgot the phone numbers to his previous employers. Well, son, they are on the phone we are letting you use to get jobs. I think he is spending his time at the vaping cafe (found some more of that paraphanalia in today’s search) or the library for the computers. We are still on target to give him three more weeks but I am looking at shortening that. He will be driven to the town of his choice, within a reasonable distance, and handed his bike. He will return the keys to the car he has been using and the phone he has been using. He will take with him his vast collection of knives, his few clothes, and a three hundred dollar credit card bill because when he turned eighteen, he was able to get a credit card. He also will take some tools in his character, should he ever decide to make use of them, for job getting and keeping, social behavior, a glimpse of relationship with God. Pray for us. Pray for him. Thanks.

  7. Karen, a conference with the school counselor may be in order where she can gently explain to Emily and R together that Forrest is younger and that many, many, boys whose birthday’s are earlier in the year have parents who choose to hold them back to give them another year to mature and set the stage for an even better academic career.
THEN someone can explain that down the road, do you want to send a 17 almost 18 year old off to college (see he’s so bright you are already planning college?) or do you want to send an 18 almost 19 year old (who has had another year to mature) off to college?

  8. Mumsee – I agree with you about too-early kindergarten.

Kim – IIRC, I think Emily said that both the teacher & principal would talk to R, & they would explain how it would be beneficial for Forrest to repeat kindergarten. We’re hoping that by then, he will have calmed down & will listen to reason. But Emily is willing to take it to the family court judge, if R digs in his heels.

We were talking about how the teachers will advise keeping a child back, but it is up to the parents to make the final decision. She told me that if a teacher suspects that the parents are the kind who are harsh, & would belittle or threaten the child, they don’t suggest keeping him/her back.

  9. Daughter-in-law sounded great on the phone this afternoon. The 11 years since her last ACL repair has seen a vast improvement in how the surgery is done. Hoping it all works out fine, but she’s not in a lot of pain like she remembered, but then, the nerve block hadn’t quite worn off when I talked with her..

Keep praying for her, please. The devastating blood clot that turned her life upside down developed on day four after her last surgery. She’s not out of the woods yet.
