“I fundamentally understand that you in a position of authority, like you, governor and others, in addition to having compassion for others, you have to be safety conscious for your people,” Rice said, nodding at Bentley. “What the United States has done is to be open to people who are fleeing tyranny, who are fleeing danger, but we have done it in a very careful way that has worked for us.”
I think part of the problem is there’s a pretty widespread lack of trust in the current administration that a careful screening process would be employed.
No one would call you unchristian is you refused to let a strange homeless man have the run of the house where your children lived. and slept. That would be stupid. Especially if you had been told that there were a number rapist among the homeless group he came from..
(The problem): “There is no way to be certain who is a jihadist and who isn’t. What we do know for certain is that ISIS has bragged openly about including jihadists among those who have fled to Europe, and only a fool would believe that same strategy is not being applied to America.”
And a good piece for Christians at The Gospel Coalition about how simple arguments about the refugees (compassion vs. being unwelcoming, etc.) really do need to be given some thought & nuance considering the potential dangers as well:
“There are too many important things, and too many human lives, at stake to move quite so quickly from solid Christian principles to simple policy prescriptions.”
What’s sad is that so many refugees, including many persecuted Christians, will now suffer even more because of ISIS’ claims that they will use this situation to mix in with them in order to infiltrate and kill innocent people in other nations.
“Police found an ambulance filled with explosives outside a canceled soccer match in Hanover, Germany, immediately invoking fears of another terror attack like last week’s massacre in Paris, according to local reports.
Authorities also cleared a second stadium, with a performance planned by German band, but did not say if there was a serious threat there.”
I see where 26 governors has said that they will not receive Syrian refugees. Several have said that they would. Hawaii is one of those.
That solves our problem. Put all of them on an island in Hawaii. Let them govern themselves, but not by sharia. No legal decision should ever be made in the US that is based on sharia.
President Obama is coming under criticism from some in his own party over his comments Monday about last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris.
Influential liberal columnists and Democratic strategists say Obama came off as condescending and scornful during his press conference in Antalya, Turkey — missing an opportunity to show strength and leadership in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
“I don’t want him shooting from the hip and making empty threats, but I think he could have done a better job in articulating the anger that many people feel toward what happened in not only Paris but Beirut as well,” said Democratic strategist Jim Manley, a former adviser to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
“What happened in Paris and in Beirut is going to require an aggressive response.”
Those comments echoed Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson’s assessment that Obama’s tone “was all wrong” in addressing the Paris attacks.
Typically an Obama ally, Robinson in a column published on Tuesday wrote that “at times he was patronizing, at other times he seemed annoyed and almost dismissive.” …

It is interesting to compare the arrogant and defensive garbage we got from Obama with the clear, straightforward recitation of facts presented by Putin:
One of the liberals at the dog park tonight — when the issue of today’s thwarted attack in Germany came up — said that aside from 9/11, the worst loss of life in a terrorist attack in the U.S. was the work of a white supremacist, Timothy McVeigh.
Huh?
Soooo, the point is?
I used to be one, but I really don’t understand the train of thought with liberals sometimes …
So why should we believe that now they’ll suddenly do a better job identifying the radicals among the recently arrived, and still to come, Syrian immigrants/refugees? And the fact that they’re hiding the details, including how they were vetted, from Congress is a red flag as well.
“U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest, and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts, today issued the following statement three months after their letter to the Obama Administration on immigration and terrorism:
“On August 12, we sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, and Secretary of State John Kerry, asking for specific information regarding the nexus between terrorism and our immigration system to be provided to us no later than September 4. Specifically, the letter identified at least 72 individuals in the United States who have been identified as having a connection to terrorism over the last one-year period. According to publicly available information, a disproportionately large number of these individuals are foreign-born immigrants admitted to the United States – and in many cases, are immigrants who naturalized after admission. An additional number are the children of foreign migrants. The letter asked for basic immigration and family immigration information pertaining to each of these terrorists.
“More than three months later the Administration has not provided immigration details on a single one of the 72. It is quite telling that this Administration – which seems to have unlimited resources to circumvent our immigration laws and further its executive amnesties – cannot find the time or resources to provide timely answers to these simple questions. Moreover, after this past weekend’s barbaric attacks in Paris, the Administration’s continued insistence on pursuing the massive resettlement of countless individuals from unstable areas of the world reveals a flagrant disregard for the safety and security of the American people. In just the last year, refugees and other migrants admitted to the U.S. from Bosnia, Somalia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Ghana, Kuwait and Bangladesh have been implicated in terrorist activity.”

“annoyed and dismissive” kind of sums up this president’s attitude all the time, in my estimation. 😦
