Good morning everyone. My post is on the R&R thread.
It’s an inside day today because of the rain. Doesn’t matter; I have a SS lesson to prepare for tomorrow.
It’s about God’s Judgment on Sodom. I will mention some of the things I have discussed about this.
I am loving the photo headers of the “up East” season.
I had one of those epiphany moments a few minutes ago. I was making peanut butter toast and pouring a glass of milk for BG’s breakfast. I had this thought of “I am not making this for you, you little snot, because you DESERVE to be waited on and have your breakfast delivered to you, but because I love you beyond myself”. The next thought to hit me was “this must be how God feels about us”..
Now, all of you know how I feel about God. There is too much in my life that can only be explained if there is a God and He loves me. I have explained before that I compared the way my father loved me to the way God loves me and see God as having a great sense of humor where I am concerned. This was the first time I felt “like” what God must feel like when He deals with me.
Probably not the most sound Saturday morning theology but it works for me.
Will be posting on the prayer thread
Kim- The best way to show someone the love of Jesus is to love them unconditionally. You are doing that with BG. Someday she will come around, or at least regret how she acted as a teen.
It seems there is no escaping the rain. We tried to follow the sun yesterday on I-20 but we only saw it for a short while. Many states and lots of rain!
Husband seems very grumpy and that tends to make me grumpy. I hope son can cheer him up later. I was not a cheerleader in high school and besides not having the energy for it now, I no longer have the figure for it either. If I tried to do a cartwheel, it would end up looking like a spilled apple cart, a red splat…and the only split would be my noggin.
I was watching Venus and Jupiter this morning. At least, I think it is Venus next to the moon now. And the Big Dipper. And the sunrise. No fresh snow this morning.
If any of you are interested, we’re running a double raffle over on my webpage for the next 11 days–two books being given away (4 opportunities for the set) and 24 ways to enter. You can see it all here:
Hopefully this is the last sales push I’m going to have to do for some time–well, maybe until next summer–and I’m tired of marketing. The focus for me is to increase my newsletter subscribers and then I’ll send out a Christmas newsletter the beginning of December talking about my projects and offering a free ebook giveaway using all my Advent posts from last year.
Being a writer these days is all about the marketing and it is extremely time consuming and exhausting. Hopefully I can return to trying to write my Biddy bio later today, in the meantime, raffle, raffle, raffle!
In other news, second son and his wife bought a condo yesterday–stretched to the max financially thanks to the ridiculous nature of California real estate. They get the keys on Monday and I have no idea what that means for my life in terms of helping with the move.
This Navy wife’s fingers are itching and raring to go. My family seems amazingly nonchalant about the whole thing . . . must keep quiet . . . . 🙂
Oh, and I’m proud of you, Kim.
Oh, and last week we could see three planets and the moon down here in California: Venus, Jupiter and Mars, with Mercury glimpsable on the horizon if you could see the horizon (too many hills for me). Indeed, I could see everything but Mercury from my bedroom window WHILE lying in bed.
Just sayin’.
🙂
Showers expected tomorrow and possible thunderstorms on Monday. Dancing in the streets like Gene Kelly if only I could find an umbrella! 🙂
” …. So El Nino is finally here. We will have a slightly above average rainfall season, which bodes well for helping some of the drought numbers fall. … El Nino will affect us in November, December, January, February, March, and April. …”
No stargazing from bed for me. My hubby works out of town during the week and still has a long commute to the job site. We try to start the day with conversation while he drives. I often enjoy walking outside during our morning talks.
Did someone say rake? I just put the mulching attachment on the mower and m,owed all the leaves into the grass. Nature’s own fertilizer. I don’t understand all those people that rake all the leaves and put them in bags, which go to a municipal pile and used for who knows what. Then they spend thousands of dollars on fertilizer and chemicals to get the grass to grow, only to mow it down once a week. How did the earth ever get along without us?
Kare – Yes, that was YF. She can have her nicer moments. 🙂
Recently, though, you may have seen that I shared an editorial critical of those college students wanting to shut down others’ opinions, titled “No Tolerance at Wesleyan for Diversity, Free Speech”.
The preface I wrote in sharing that said…
“I’ve been saying for a while now that the diversity many people espouse *does not* include diversity of thought & opinion. It seems that these days, for many, being open-minded means being open-minded to the ideas they already agree with, or are inclined to agree with.”
Later that day, YF wrote this on her own Facebook page…
“Supporting “diversity of thought and opinion” is not ever gonna be my priority on terms of things like who gets to be treated to basic human rights and decency. That’s not a place where there’s room for opinions.
“Opinions” that invalidate the humanity and rights of people based on something like their skin color, gender, sexuality, religion, social status, neurodivergence, or other personal details that make people different and in your eyes somehow lesser? Not here for that sh__, bro. Never gonna be.”
That was obviously in response to my post. But nowhere in what I wrote did I say anything at all about anyone being lesser than anyone else. It seems that she often sees me or what I write through the lens of some kind of strange stereotype. She is very good at building up straw men & self-righteously knocking them down.
For those who may ask, “Karen, why are you still Facebook friends with YF?”: Well, for one thing, I like to see what Chrissy is being exposed to. (I think I’ve mentioned that sometimes I hear YF’s words coming out of Chrissy’s mouth.) And also because she occasionally writes about things going on in her family. So I’m basically nosy. 😉
But I have mostly stopped commenting on her stuff. The only times I’ll comment is the rare time she writes something about God or the Bible (& I do that as much for the others who may be reading her stuff as for her), or on the occasional innocuous post. For instance, today she mentioned how weird a movie (The Adventures of Food Boy) was, & I agreed that it was indeed a weird movie.
We will attempt an early Thanksgiving meal with son today. It will not be elaborate like Kim’s Southern Living suggestions, but hopefully it will be good.
I did something this morning that I told both of my priests I would NOT do. I was awake and to make the rest of my day run on schedule, I hauled myself to 8am church. We still had the music so I may do it again. (shhh. Don’t tell anybody)
Today was our Sunday to pray for the Persecuted Church.
I know that AJ gives us a Psalm every day but today’s Psalm was Psalm 127. We always sing a refrain between “stanzas”. Today the refrain wasL
If the Lord is not the builder of your house,
It will not be safe in the storm
Tell your anxious heard to lay its worries down:
Come and find your home in the Lord
Unless the Lord Builds the House
A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon.
127 Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children[a] of one’s youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.[b]
You may can imagine how this effected me this morning.
The lesson went well
In application, I mentioned the discussions I have with Rick about America and judgment.
I mentioned that I was reading the Washington Times how the gay-lesbian community had paid over $500K (half a million) to defeat the ban on same sex usage of facilities. The good people of Houston defeated them. Then the people of Ohio defeated the marijuana law.
And I repeated, as I do to Ricky, There are still ten good man in Sodom.
But I fear for my grandkids. I’ve told you that many times.
Yesterday was my birthday, but I prefer to ignore them more often than not. 🙂 Haven’t felt all that energetic or in a celebration mood this weekend anyway.
Still worried about Carol, she doesn’t sound right — her speech sounds slow to me, like she’s half asleep, and she said she’s been bothered with headaches. I’m urging her to go see a doctor.
Had a strange email from a source this morning saying what a shame it was that I chose to write such a divisive article (about his building burning down). Weird. The only criticisms I worry about or take seriously are the ones that say something I reported was inaccurate or outright unfair.
Being divisive? Well, that’s life. I wasn’t trying to be provocative, just reporting the facts so far from LA fire and using some quotes that I guess he didn’t like much.
Well, I built a fine cake, but it disappeared before it got posted. It must have been the dog biscuits that the dogs went after. Most of the cake is gone! 😦
Either Gremlins or dogs got it!
I was trying to go back and use the predictive text again, and it let in the phone Gremlins. They love to get in on cake making so they can take the cake away.
oh the humor is going strong here today, but I must get ready for work on this Monday morning. It will be hard to contain the excitement today as two girls who have been gone for 6-8 weeks have returned. I also moved them all to a new place. We’ll see if it works.
Dentists don’t do it like they used to, they are able to do their work without inflicting pain. I appreciate that. But I still have a hard time setting aside old experience.
I get one day for my birthday. But I’m thinking of doing something nice for myself on the 13th of every month. We’ll see. I probably won’t end up doing that after all.
Donna- the only alternative to having birthdays is not heaving them. Of course, for a Christian that is a good thing because, as Paul said, that would mean being with Jesus!
Chas, My Sunday School lesson was on baptism. The kids did a good job of participation. We dealt with the Ethiopian Eunuch, the repentant thief on the cross, the definition of repentance, and infant baptism among other issues. Then the choir started warming up in the room next door and it was time to wrap it up.
Turkey breast is in the oven. Dressing will bake when turkey comes out and is cooling. Fruit salad is made. I need to work on broccoli and Brussell sprouts. Sweet potato will be microwaved. All simple and lite on salt. Pumpkin pie goes in oven when dressing comes out. I am trying to get it all down right for dinner around 8:00. Does anyone have Thanksgiving supper? Isn’t it always Thanksgiving Dinner no matter what time it is served?
At least according to the crime novel I’m reading that’s set in Hollywood-LA where investigators have to go to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery to collect some surveillance video.
Carol and I drove by it a couple months ago on one of our errand jaunts through town, it’s built on the back lot portion of Paramount Studios property and has a lot of the old stand-up headstones.
I made spaghetti today. Which reminded me that I still needed to buy a garlic press/chopper, so I did that on Amazon. But for now, it’s garlic smell on the fingers.
Several times we have had discussions about the end times. I found this quote this morning that says a lot:
Marvin L. Fieldhouse, author and missionary to Japan:
The important thing in Bible prophecy is the fact that Christ is coming again. The next important fact is, “It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in His Own power” (Acts 1:7). The next important thing is this: “But we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure” (I John 3:2b-3). The fourth important thing, based upon the other three, is “Be not wise in your own thoughts.”
My husband and I went for a walk today at out local-ish state park, thinking that we have no idea how many more nice weather days we’ll have, and a few leaves are still on the trees so visually it’s still pretty.
Anyway . . . I finally got a photo of the last Indiana woodpecker, the pileated. Not the best woodpecker photo I’ve ever shot (I actually got three shots of her) because there was a branch in the way, but for once it landed on a tree close enough that I had a fairly clear view, and stayed long enough for me to find her with the camera, zoom in a bit, and take three shots. We’d seen one in flight earlier, and had heard them calling or rapping, and other woodpeckers were active. So I thought that today might well be our chance. But it wasn’t till we were walking out, quite near the parking lot, that she landed on a tree near us. Then she flew, and my husband saw where she landed but I didn’t. But I heard another call behind us, and a different one had landed (briefly) on the same tree where the first one had initially landed, and then flew again, so I told my husband, “Here comes its mate!” So we saw both on the tree, and saw both fly, and I got pictures of the female. Three years of “trying” with probably a dozen brief glimpses of the bird in there, and I finally got one that allowed me to take its photo. (I had photographed every other Indiana woodpecker, even the yellow-bellied sapsucker, several times, and had gotten male and female, juvenile and adult, of every other species!) Someday maybe I’ll get a “great” photo of one, but for now I finally got a decent photo, and I’m quite happy about that. (That and the indigo bunting were on my “get this bird” list this year, and I got both. I still want better photos of the wood duck and the kestrel–two gorgeous birds for which I have only mediocre photos–and I don’t have great shots of most raptor species. But I got the indigo bunting and the pileated woodpecker, and I’m happy.)
I’ve got a new gravatar. The photo was my husband’s idea, but we had about a yard between us on the path when he suggested I take the photo of our shadows, and I said we probably should get closer together first. 🙂

I don’t think the 90k post are all on Daily Thread. I suspect Prayer, Politics, etc are included.
Including NCAA. 😉

Where are you guys getting the 90,000+ number? The numbers I see (in the URL & when I hover over the time/date of a post) are in the 123,000s.

Not going to the Y today.
Otherwise, we would be there by now.
I have a dental appointment in exactly an hour from now.
I would rather be at the Y.
