Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks “15- Week 2

Another week, another weekend of college football. Last week, four of us got nine out of ten games correct. It was a cake walk with all the top teams playing pushovers. Not this week. There is a possible preview of the final championship game with #7 Oregon visiting #5 Michigan State. And BYU hosts Boise State, after the now-famous Hail Mary pass by a substitute quarterback got BYU the win over Nebraska, at Lincoln! Have fun with this one, folks. Just make your picks by game-time Saturday, which is 10:30 AM EDT, when South Florida visits Florida State.

Remember the rules: Pick the winners of all ten games, and the final score of the tie breaker, which this week was chosen by Tychicus, who was the winner last week.

  1 South Florida @ #11 Florida State

  2 Army @ Connecticut

  3 Iowa @ Iowa State

  4 #19 Oklahoma @ # 23 Tennessee

  5 Kentucky @ South Carolina

  6 #7 Oregon @ # 5 Michigan State

7  San Jose State @  Air Force

  8 #20 Boise State @ BYU

  9 #22 Arizona @ Nevada

10 Tie Breaker:  Kansas State @  UT- San Antonio

Pick winner and final score.

  1. Chas’ wild guesses:
    Seminoles
    Army
Iowa (a toss up says it)
    Tennessee Vols beat them Sooners
    Gamecocks beat the Wildcats
    Michigan State
    Air Force
Bois State. That’s what Mumsee says, and I believe it..
    Arizona
    Kansas State 21, UT-SA 0

  2. I think I can make a connection to almost every game this time.

South Florida @ #11 Florida State – We passed by the South Florida campus in Sarasota last month. Beautiful campus, right next to the Ringling museum. But a nice campus is not enough for the football team to overcome the Seminoles. FSU wins this one.

Army @ Connecticut – We visited the UConn campus while visiting friends in Storrs. Nice place. I’ve seen the West Point campus from the freeway. Beautiful surroundings. But this is football, and the Husky fans will have to put up with a loss. Army takes the game.

Iowa @ Iowa State – Two family connections here. One sister-in-law graduated from ISU. A brother-in-law got his degree at Iowa. I’ve spent time at both Iowa City and Ames. I think the Cyclones (ISU) beat their cross-state rivals this time.

#19 Oklahoma @ # 23 Tennessee – I went to a Bible conference just down the road from the Norman campus. Big stadium. Football is a religion there. But their “god” cannot overcome the Volunteers this time. Tennessee in an upset.

Kentucky @ South Carolina – No connection here, other than Chas. South Carolina, mainly because I don’t think of football with Kentucky. basketball is their strength.

#7 Oregon @ # 5 Michigan State – Not been to either school. I don’t care for Oregon. Spartans “down” the Ducks.

San Jose State @ Air Force – The Air Force Academy outside Colorado Springs is one of the most beautiful campuses anywhere. The “chapel” is more like a cathedral, with its marvelous pipe organ. And the high altitude would be hard on the low-altitude Californians. Air Force flies away with this one.

#20 Boise State @ BYU – Substitute QB got lucky last week. Boise State Broncos gallop over the Cougars.

#22 Arizona @ Nevada – If you’re ever in Tucson, go to the U of A campus. It’s beautiful. And it would be a major gamble to say the Wildcats fall this week. Arizona wins.

Tie Breaker: Kansas State @ UT- San Antonio – I’ve been to Manhattan, but not the KSU campus. And I would like to visit San Antonio some day. I don’t like Texas teams, though, so KSU wins 35-31.

  3. Mumsee picked without waiting for Tychicus? And she picked the exact same score I did in the tie breaker. Well, I’ll change my score to KSU 42-31, so she doesn’t have to change hers.

Janice- It’s not so much Texas schools as Texas. Growing up in Arizona, the only Texans I knew were arrogant snobs who looked down their noses at those of us form the lesser regions of the Wild West. At least, that was my perception. But now I know better Texans, but still dislike most things Texan.

  7. Mumsee- The idea of a tie breaker is to differentiate between two otherwise identical entries. So I didn’t figure the rules would have to specify that.

And thus, we have all the legalese in contests and sweepstakes.
