  1. Disgusting. I’m ashamed of my govt. Again.

    http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/02/politics/va-inspector-general-report/index.html

“Hundreds of thousands of veterans listed in the Department of Veterans Affairs enrollment system died before their applications for care were processed, according to a report issued Wednesday.

The VA’s inspector general found that out of about 800,000 records stalled in the agency’s system for managing health care enrollment, there were more than 307,000 records that belonged to veterans who had died months or years in the past.

In a response to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs’ request to investigate a whistleblower’s allegations of mismanagement at the VA’s Health Eligibility Center, the inspector general also found VA staffers incorrectly marked unprocessed applications and may have deleted 10,000 or more records in the last five years.”

“Scott Davis, a program specialist at the VA Health Eligibility Center, said thousands more veterans who have returned from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan have not received care because of being erroneously placed in the enrollment system’s backlog.

He said many of these combat veterans have since lost their five-year eligibility for care due to the delay. VA inspectors say Phoenix was in total ‘chaos’

“People who fought, and who earned the right to VA health care were never given VA health care,” Davis said. “They literally died while waiting for VA to process their health care application.”

  2. This reveals that not only is Hillaryincompetent, she is an idiot.
I’m no computer whiz, but I have enough to know that if I were trying to cove my tracks on something this important, I would engage someone who knew what he was doing.

    From Drudge:j
Just as email-gate looked to be winding down, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned a person claiming to be a computer specialist has come forward with the stunning news that 32,000 emails from Hillary Clinton‘s private email account are up for sale. The price tag — a whopping $500,000!

Promising to give the trove of the former Secretary of State’s emails to the highest bidder, the specialist is showing subject lines as proof of what appear to be legitimate messages.

  3. Brady wins!

    http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/judge-lets-brady-play-ruling-against-nfl-in-deflategate/ar-AAdTXsh?ocid=U142DHP

“A federal judge deflated “Deflategate” Thursday, erasing New England quarterback Tom Brady’s four-game suspension for a controversy that the NFL claimed threatened football’s integrity.

U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell went too far in affirming punishment of the Super Bowl winning quarterback. Brady has insisted he played no role in a conspiracy to deflate footballs below the allowable limit at last season’s AFC championship game.

The written decision frees Brady to prepare for the Sept. 10 season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.”

  4. Although crisis and tragedy are Drudge’s bread an butter. 🙂 He’s king of “hair-on-fire” the sky is falling when it comes to the art of headlines.

Remember, things always look a little worse than they really are on Drudge (but, yeah, I click on him every day too).

He is good at what he does. And some of our news really is that bad. 😉 But not always. …

“A close associate tells POLITICO that Donald Trump plans to sign a loyalty pledge Thursday that would bind him to endorsing the Republican nominee and would preclude a third-party run. Trump made the stunning decision, which he has long resisted, to avoid complications in getting listed on primary ballots, and to take away an attack line in the next debate, the associate said. …”

  6. AJ here,

Update on the clerk in Kentucky.

    http://hotair.com/archives/2015/09/03/kentucky-clerk-who-refused-to-issue-marriage-licenses-after-scotus-ruling-sent-to-jail-for-contempt-of-court/

“An interesting detail from BuzzFeed: Lawyers for the gay couples who want her to issue the licenses asked the court to fine her, not send her to jail. Since when do gay-rights supporters ask for leniency for a Christian who’s defying them on gay marriage? Since, I think, this case started picking up national media attention. They don’t want to make a martyr out of Davis. Locking her up does that in a visible way that hitting her in the wallet doesn’t.

The judge ordered her locked up anyway. For a reason:

The court assumed, not unreasonably, that sympathizers would shower her with cash to cover the fine, which means there’d be no real pressure on her to comply with the order to begin issuing licenses. The only way to pressure her was jail.

David told Todd Starnes of Fox News that she was prepared for that if it came to it:

“I’ve weighed the cost and I’m prepared to go to jail, I sure am,” Mrs. Davis told me in an exclusive interview. “This has never been a gay or lesbian issue for me. This is about upholding the word of God.”

“This is a heaven or hell issue for me and for every other Christian that believes,” she said. “This is a fight worth fighting.”…

“I would have to either make a decision to stand or I would have to buckle down and leave,” she said, pondering her choices. “And if I left, resigned or chose to retire, I would have no voice for God’s word.”

  7. You gotta admit, Donald Trump just had a very good press conference. The lines about not being controlled by lobbyists and special interests, and about putting the millions back to work, were quite powerful. He’s learning about the importance of nuance. However, he needs to learn to not speak in absolutes when it’s not warranted. He’s learning, though, and is now a serious candidate,

The outsiders (inc. Carson and Fiorina) are certainly refreshing…

  8. From Drudge:

Vanderbilt University’s Women’s Center will be hosting a week-long event dedicated to lecturing men about what it means to have “healthy masculinity.”

I wonder how they would like the men to lecture on femininity.
The men don’t need any help on masculinity.

  9. I doubt the pledge is legally binding.

I have very little sympathy for the county clerk. Its civil marriage. Similarly i expect a quaker to process a gun license and a Muslim process a deli food license which includes bacon. Now if it was a Catholic priest refusing a religious marriage i would express sympathy

  10. Where were these outsiders when Scott Walker stood up to the unions in spite of death threats and recalls, where were they when Mike Huckabee almost single-handedly took on the the LBGT bullies who tried to use government to punish a private businessman for the wrong opinion or when Ted Cruz and Rand Paul actually stood for hours against Obamacare or when Rick Perry really did some thing about the border by activating the National Guard when the feds did nothing.
We don’t need an outsider who knows all the right buzz words or another mealy mouth moderate, We need a real conservative who has already put feet to their words. We have a lot of better choices.

  11. The difference between the county clerk and Muslim deli workers or Quakers is that “marriage” between same sexes was not a legal option when she accepted her employment offer. It’s not entirely clear to me what law she is breaking, or how, but I haven’t looked all that closely into it. Anyway, it’s always odd to me how so many people do not appreciate the concept of “taking a stand on principle.” She took a job under one set of circumstances; a moral component of those circumstances has changed significantly. And she’s just supposed to shut up and fall in line, simple as that.

  12. kbells: I don’t understand your statement that only a billionaire can be president. Trump makes a very good point when he says that lobbyists and special interests can absolutely control a candidate.

Re. your second comment, do you believe that Carson and Fiorina are not real conservatives?

  13. hwesseli: No, the “pledge” certainly is not binding in any way (other than he gave his word, for whatever that’s worth). He can break it in the end — and with Trump, it wouldn’t surprise me.

But I still see it as a significant step that he’s willing to more officially be on the “team” if you will (though I still think his history indicates that he’s more of a liberal than a conservative — he’s definitely an opportunist. 😉 )

One can agree or not with the county clerk’s response or not (it’s legitimately arguable, as Mohler says, though purely from a civil disobedience standpoint she is making a point, no?).

The real point, however, is that these conflicts of rights regarding gay marriage and people of faith are now part of the legal and political landscape we will all have to navigate. Our nation, when it’s living up to its own best ideals, has always held a deep respect for the rights of minority viewpoints — which also deserve protection under the law (although not so much lately, at least on this issue, to be honest, from what I’m seeing and hearing).

  14. Tychius, the reason Trump claims he is not obligated to lobbyist is that he can afford to fund his own campaign. Who else can do that? Only a billionaire. As for Fiorina and Carson, I like them fine but they haven’t shown me they can stand firm in the fire like these other guys.

  15. I think the problem is we have too many good candidates. The fringe nut burgers, who don’t pay attention and just vote for who is in style are going for Trump, the mealy mouth moderates are with Bush and a little for Kasich and Christie, That leaves the real conservative vote divided over about 10 candidates.
