Prayer Requests 8-14-15

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the young folks at the Nest/funny farm. 🙂

Given recent events, it’s certainly needed.

Anyone else?

Psalm 72

¹Give the king thy judgments, O God, and thy righteousness unto the king’s son.

He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment.

The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor.

They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth.

He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

They that dwell in the wilderness shall bow before him; and his enemies shall lick the dust.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents: the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

11 Yea, all kings shall fall down before him: all nations shall serve him.

12 For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

13 He shall spare the poor and needy, and shall save the souls of the needy.

14 He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence: and precious shall their blood be in his sight.

15 And he shall live, and to him shall be given of the gold of Sheba: prayer also shall be made for him continually; and daily shall he be praised.

16 There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

18 Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.

19 And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and let the whole earth be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen.

20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

  1. Lovely home, Kim. Really makes me want to get back to organizing my abode so it’s as restful-looking as that one. Alas, today is probably not the day to do much on that front…

Thank you for the prayers for Fifth Arrow. He still needs them. He had the dry heaves last night around 2:30 — nothing in his stomach to come up since he hadn’t eaten since supper on Wednesday. He did try eating a little this morning, but ate almost nothing and didn’t want to continue after a couple bites.

And he has a fever now, with his stomach pain in the same place as yesterday. Prayers for wisdom for me in deciding whether to take him in, and for comfort for him are appreciated.

I could use prayers, too. Woke up this morning with a slight sore throat, and a very bad headache. (The headache could be partially the result of poor sleep last night, hearing son’s moans and groans at various times through the night, but could be part of the sore throat [and slight body aches] package.) Although, I’m leaning toward the headache being a result of something I ate last night before bed that I probably shouldn’t have. So it could be quite temporary.

    Thanks.

  2. My internet went out while I was typing that comment, and in the time it took for it to come back in, 5th Arrow ate his whole plate of food! Granted, it was not a large quantity, by any means, but at least he’s eating now…

  3. Please also continue to pray for my mom. The bottom of the incision from her back surgery two weeks ago is not healing as well as the top, and at her follow-up appointment two days ago, the area was reddened with pus present. She was prescribed an antibiotic, but her nausea increased after she began taking it, and yesterday she decided to quit the antibiotic before it is done.

  4. People are scrambling for hay around here as the grass is burned in most areas the livestock was grazing. A neighbor just came by to take as many of the boys as were available, there was one. He has to move his horses from a safe area back to their range but there is no food left so he found some hay but hopes to move them again to another area. Prayer that the hay holds out so people don’t have to slaughter their herds.

We sat up late last night watching the mountains burn. I am told that all of the trees up from Kamiah (you know the area Phos and Kim) are burning.

  5. With that tumeric he has been taking, not a sign of asthma or even a sniffle or sneeze. Tony, on the other hand, has been struggling a bit. We keep inside for the most part, which is very strange to me.

  6. Praying Mumsee. And 6 Arrows and Kim.

    I say, Donna, let’s move to Alabama . . .

My daughter had an excellent time in Nicaragua–they saw over 1000 people in 3 days. Many of those were children who needed glasses, which means they just changed everything for those kids. Thanks be to God.

She’s flying back to LA right now; works tonight and tomorrow night and then moves over to day shift on Monday. Her prayer need right now is to find a room to rent somewhere; she’s supposed to be out of the college apartment sublet next week but it’s her closest friend so she’s not being put out on the street.

Relatives would take her back, but it’s a 90 minute drive to work in LA traffic, so she’s hunting something closer. Thinks she might try Craig’s List and this mother is trying to leave it all in God’s hands.

So, prayers for her living situation, please.

Med school applications will go in soon; it’s interesting to pray and wait for the right time, isn’t it?

  7. Another friend sends word that the firefighters have been to their place and given them some instruction. They think they will be able to save their home, not so sure about some others. She and a couple of the fire fighters were able to take a few moments to pray together in the driveway.

  8. Seventeen year old son was just here. He got back from helping a neighbor move his horses, same son as was in China last week, ministering to the Tibetans. He is off to help dad with some last minute shopping before dad heads off to Boise for his treatment. He says there are lots of backfires being burned today, attempts to stop the raging flames from going forward. Lots of smoke in the air.

  9. Thanks for all the prayers. My headache and sore throat are gone — neither lasted all that long, thankfully — and 5th Arrow not only ate some breakfast and didn’t throw up, but ate a very good sized lunch, and his stomach ache is gone now. He is up and around and obviously feeling much better. Praises!

My mom called this morning to ask about him, and she mentioned she is feeling much better today, after a good night’s sleep, than she was yesterday. (She hadn’t slept at all Wednesday night, feeling nauseous from the antibiotic, and having diarrhea, and dizzy spells every time she got up to go into the bathroom.) She sounds much better today than she did yesterday, and she is hoping that the antibacterial soap that’s being used every time someone changes her bandage will be enough to keep things in check, as she has discontinued using the antibiotic.

There’s been some behind-the-scenes discussion between my siblings about the necessity of the antibiotic, or alternatives to it, which haven’t been resolved. I have stayed out of that discussion, and Mom is pretty determined not to take the antibiotic, anyway. Ongoing prayers for sibling relationships at this time are always welcome.

BTW, Kathaleena, if you see this, that book you recommended, They’re Your Parents, Too came in this week, and I picked it up at the library last night. Looks like a great read, from what I’ve glanced at so far. I appreciate you alerting me to that book.

  10. Mumsee, the turmeric worked wonders when I was in California, no allergies at all. Here it is not helping. I bought the same turmeric from Amazon as it was a lot cheaper, but the capsules look totally different and it is not doing a thingl
What kind or brand of turmeric are you buying? I may ask a friend to mail some to me, even though it costs a lot for shipping.

  11. I am so excited that nine year old has begun reading! It finally clicked and every time he reads a sentence, his face lights up with bliss. His biggest thrill is to look through books and wonder what they are telling him. Now he will be able to know. Thank You, God!

  12. Mumsee, a similar thing happened to me. I failed the first grade because I couldn’t read.
We had the “look see, say” method in those days. After the first “See Jack run” I could say it again, but I never could get Jill to run. Nor Spot.
After the first year, I taught myself phonics. It’s really simple once you get it.
    I haven’t stopped reading since.
But I have cut out paperbacks and other things where the print has shrunk.

  13. Phonics was in its glory years when I was born and learning to read early. My mom wholly embraced it and we were off and running … with Dick, Jane AND Spot.

  14. We did phonics with all of the others, but his thinking challenges are such that phonics is not working. He cannot recognize the alphabet but he does seem to be able to recognize the shapes of the words. Sight reading. But as sight reading has started to open up, it appears to have triggered some of the last six years of phonics lessons as well.

Part of it is that he is developmentally younger than nine and as a boy, a late bloomer anyway. Though first son was reading at three….

  16. Prayers here as the strong winds continue and evacuations continue. Now our local town is on evacuation notice. That is upwind of us. The town downwind of us is also on notice along with all sorts of folk in and around.

  17. Mumsee, are you thinking of leaving?

We used the Dick & Jane books in school, but my mom was a cult-follower of the phonics movement. I remember she even got into a debate with my 3rd grade teachers on what sounds were considered vowels.
