  1. From The telegraph via Drudge

“As Venezuela’s food shortages worsen, the president of the country’s Food Industry Chamber has said that authorities ordered producers of milk, pasta, oil, rice, sugar and flour to supply their products to the state stores ”

A certain way to insure food shortages.

  2. Digging through some boxes I found a Johnny Cash CD, On the way to work I listened to Hey Porter and I thought about the way Southerner’s feel about their homeland. I read this article and like the points the author makes. As always the true ignorance comes out in the comments. It is a clear case of “I’ve made up my mind. Don’t confuse me with the facts”.

  3. Good Powers piece, michelle. And good for her.

” … Richards worked to discredit the video by complaining it was ‘heavily edited.’ But the nearly three-hour unedited video — a nauseating journey through the inner workings of the abortion industry — was posted at the same time as the edited video. Richards intoned menacingly that the video was ‘secretly recorded.’ So what? When Mitt Romney was caught by ‘secret video’ making his 47% remarks, the means of attaining the information was not the focus of the story. …

“… When abortion doctors are elevated to gods who may not be questioned or held accountable, society has officially gone off the rails.”

  4. I thought of commenting yesterday but held back. For the most part discussions on abortion rarely solve anything or change anyone’s mind. And I can’t see the videos in questionaking any difference other than motivating those already onside.

That being said, the video damages PP not because of illegal activity (there is none) but because of the unproffesional and crude behaviour of its employee. Som may view it as a product of years employed as an abortionist. In any case, no reputable firm no matter what the service/industry should tolerate such cavalier behaviour.

The sale of body parts is strictly regulated and non profit. Health organizations can only charge cost recovery fees for the sale fetal remains, human tissue/blood, and the recently deceased. If the PP employee had acted in a professional manner, then there would be very little to comment. As despicable as some may view abortion, the disposal of fetal remains is similar to that of unwanted or donated human remains.

Finally ms. Powers spoke too soon. The NYT did publish a pro PP opinion piece today.

  5. HRW, The harvesting and sale of organs of aborted babies is actually similar to the work of Nazi doctors. Both Margaret Sanger and the Nazis were big believers in eugenics.

The FBI breakdown of the Chattanooga shooting.

    http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/local/story/2015/jul/22/live-updates-press-conference-chattanooga-shootings/315906/

“he FBI confirmed that Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez first fired at a military recruiting office on Lee Highway without exiting his convertible, then made entry to a nearby military facility in Chattanooga by crashing through a gate.

He fired at the main building, then entered the main building, pursuing sailors and Marines who were trying to evade him.

Inside, Abdulazeez wounded two in the building, including one mortally wounded serviceman presumed to be 26-year-old Randall Smith, before exiting out of the back of the building and engaging Marines within a fenced-in motor pool.

He initially shot and killed two Marines in the motor pool. As others engaged him, he shot two more Marines. FBI Special Agent in Charge Ed Reinhold says four service members were killed in the motor pool.

The FBI recovered two personal weapons at the scene, at least one of which was used to fire at the shooter. It’s unclear whether these were allowed under federal rules that prohibit anyone other than military police and facility guards from carrying weapons on the base.

That will be part of a separate military investigation, Reinhold said. “

  7. More…

” Marines and sailors risked their lives for one another in Chattanooga last week, trying to distract the gunman who assaulted a naval center, helping people scale a fence for safety and returning fire at the attacker, law enforcement officials said Wednesday.

Some of the five servicemen who were fatally wounded effectively sacrificed themselves during the assault on Thursday, diverting the gunman from a larger group of potential victims, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation into the killings.

“This could have been a lot worse,” said the official, who did not want to be identified because he was not authorized to discuss the investigation. “It could have been a horrible, horrible massacre — so much worse.””
