  1. So far, I’m just into the introduction of a book I’m reading. The Death of Money by James Rickards. But on p. 4 he says, “Many ponder how it is that the Fed has increased the base money supply by 400 percent since 2008 with practically no inflation. But two explanations are very much at hand – and they foretell the potential for collapse. The first is that the US economy is structurally damaged, and the easy money cannot be put to good use. The second is that inflation is coming. Both explanations are true – the economy is broken and inflation is on the way.”

I don’t know about “easy money can’t be put t good use”, but I do know that there is no apparent result from all the trillions that have been spent. And I have noticed that the canned soup is soupier, toilet paper tolls are smaller, liquid soap is thinner and all sorts of things that make you get less for the dollar.
All this and we are cutting back on defense dollars. The money is just disappearing

  2. A “pound of (coffee, sugar, flour, etc) is 10 or 12 oz.
A can of salmon is tapered at the bottom as are cans of other things
You can’t buy a gallon or quart of orange juice that is actually that many ounces.

  3. I didn’t see or hear it, but yesterday’s news conference sounded quite testy. No more Mr. Cool, Nice Guy I guess now that the deadline for a legacy approaches. 😉

Meanwhile, Hillary’s numbers are taking a trip south — http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2015/07/hillarys-poll-numbers-in-free-fall.php
and it will be interesting to see what happens in the Democratic party nominating process as it goes forward. She’s still probably a safe bet to be the nominee, but if Sanders can wound her sufficiently, it opens the way for someone else to become a more capable & likely challenger.

    But who?

  4. As far left as the Democratic party has moved, I still can’t fathom their nominating an openly declared socialist. 🙂

McGovern (yes, he was the first candidate I voted for in a presidential race — and I knocked on doors with flyers and had the “McGovern ’72” T-shirt, too) was an outright moderate compared to Sanders.

“A police officer was shot on Thursday and Chattanooga State Community College in Tennessee was placed on lockdown after a shooter fired at what appeared to be a military-related center, the school and media reports said.

“Horrific incident in our community,” Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke wrote on his Twitter feed, saying more information on the shooting will soon come.”

  6. Yes, we love public scoldings. Good way to tick off the press who loved you.

Apparently the aides who were best at coaching Obama to keep his thin-skinned tendencies at bay have left the administration. And it’s not looking pretty. 😉

  7. The guy who killed four Marines had multiple weapons.
However, guns are not allowed of federal property.
Some people just don’t get it, to they?

He should have known he was on federal property. He was violating a law, that’s why.

  8. Chas — a broken clock is right twice a day.Inflation will come…..so will my pension and retirement; its just a matter of timing. There are a few reasonable explanation as to why there’s no inflation: new money was used to pay off debt, corporations and banks are not investing the money they have and instead are soaking it away –ie dead money, decreased commodity prices, inflation is elsewhere (eg China), etc

Sanders will not win. In fact, the current scare will be good for Clinton — keeps her honest and keeps complacency away. Sanders will help the Democratic party (and Clinton) in that he is bringing in new people and energy. There is no alternative. In the post Reagan era, Sanders appears radical but he’s a typical social democrat — not much different than McGovern and would fit in perfect in a FDR cabinet.

Iran — the ink wasn’t dry and Israel and Saudi Arabia were united in their opposition. They didn’t read it — they just don’t want Iran to be a normal nation. The treaty is a win for the Iranian moderates and the people in general. As for the US, none of the other nations involved were going to stop a deal so it needed to create the best possible treaty without walking out. Is it good? Time will tell

  9. The Obama admin won’t like that this is being called terrorism. The DoJ will rule it “work place violence” again instead.

” Five people were killed on Thursday including a suspected gunman who opened fire at two military-related facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee in an attack local officials described as brazen, brutal and an act of domestic terrorism.

CBS News quoted two law enforcement officials as saying the suspect was Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez. No motive has yet been given. The suspected shooter, who has not been officially identified, is believed to have lived in the area and acted alone, local police said.

The other four killed were Marines at a Naval Reserve Center, a military official said in Washington, DC.

“We are treating this as an act of domestic terrorism,” said Bill Killian, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, adding that no official determination of the nature of the crime had yet been made.”

  10. Heard a great interview on the radio with one of the hair salon employees shortly after the incident this morning — she was thanking Jesus and reminding everyone listening that they should “get themselves born again” if they haven’t been already. Preach it sister.

The suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, according to CBS News.

The report also said the gunman was from Phoenix, Arizona. Abdulazeez is a naturalized citizen from Kuwait, MSNBC reported. Other conflicting reports state that he is from Hixson, Tennessee, which is just a few miles across the river from Chattanooga.

    http://breaking911.com/4-marines-killed-white-house-releases-statement-wishing-muslims-a-happy-end-to-ramadan/

“The following statement is the first to come out of the White house. It was emailed out and makes no reference to today’s terror attack.

    See Below statement:

Michelle and I would like to extend our warmest wishes to Muslims in the United States and around the world celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr. As Muslims mark the end of the month, they are reminded that Ramadan is a time to reflect spiritually, build communally, and aid those in need. While Eid marks the end of Ramadan, it marks a new beginning for each individual – a reason to celebrate and express gratitude on this holiday.”

“As Muslim Americans celebrate Eid across America, the holiday is a reminder to every American of the importance of respecting those of all faiths and beliefs. This past year New York City Public Schools announced adding Eid to their official school calendars alongside Christmas, Hanukkah and other holidays – an acknowledgement of the great diversity and inclusiveness that adds to the richness of our nation. During this year’s White House Iftar, I had the opportunity to meet inspiring young Muslim Americans who are leading efforts for greater understanding and unity across diverse communities. Following the Iftar, one of the young attendees helped spearhead an effort that raised more than $75,000 for the churches burned in the wake of the shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Americans of all faiths and beliefs must stand together to protect our democracy and strengthen our country as a whole.”
