My brother is having his hip replaced today. I don’t think he’s been in the hospital since he got his tonsils out at 4.
His family, with Christian Scientist bent, is freaked out. Please pray it goes well. Thanks.
I am so tired. Had a sweet time picking up my daughter and her youngest at the airport and then we joined her sisters for dinner. I got home around 9 with no energy left to pack. I am moving today, but first VBS. I have never even seen the home where I am going. Tonight is a bridal shower for my daughter.
Praying for all of the VBS workers as they try to teach children about the love of Christ. May God work through them and give them the strength to make it through each day.
Pray for Norma, seems she’s lapsed into a coma, I’m trying to find a way to go see her since today might be the last chance, but am juggling work assignments — I still have to flesh our and add to a story I turned in earlier today from a meeting … In a quandary.
I managed to finish my stories from home, explained the situation to my editor who said I didn’t have to come and got to Norma’s at around 2. Several of us were there and surrounded her bed, reading Psalms, singing, saying the Lord’s prayer — and telling her how loved she was by so many. She couldn’t speak but her eyes were open and it seemed like she was aware of her surroundings.
She died about an hour later. Hard day, but also some relief that she’s no longer suffering. And the end came rapidly so she passed relatively peacefully (even the care aid said so, she was great — Latino woman, mother of 10, grandmother of 10 and a believer as well). And the daughter of one of Norma’s good friends (and who also knew Norma well and even did a paper on her life story a couple years ago — and who also is a believer) recently received her Master’s in social work with a specialty in Hospice care so she was such a blessing to all of us and to Norma in those final moments. She had the right ‘touch.’
The only other time I’ve been with someone who died was my aunt several years ago — it’s a deep experience, filled with the sense that you’re seeing heaven and earth touch in that brief moment of passing.
I’ll really miss her — so much. 😦
But I know she’s doing just fine now and I’m grateful that she’s finally free of those earthly bonds which had become such a burden in the past couple years.

I am so sorry Donna. While your mind knows that it is probably for the best, your heart still hurts.
