    All a planned part of the composition . . . Not!

  6. Happy birthday, Michelle. Fun lessons on that instrument. I only, personally, know one player. He plays guitar, steel guitar and who knows what not. He has mentioned that the bag pipes are a challenge.

    I always enjoyed watching and listening to Judy Garland. She was a wonderful performer, IMO.

  11. Judy Garland’s voice was so smoothly wonderful. I remember the day she died because I had babysat the night before for a new couple. While sitting late on their sofa, I read an article about LSD–I’d never heard of it before–and I’m pretty sure she appeared on a rerun of the Tonight Show. Shocking to wake up the next morning and read about her death in the headlines.

    I’m sitting here rejoicing in a delightful summer rain shower. Highly unusual for California and a gift to me because I now won’t have to water anything. But even though I’m dressed to dance Zumba in 25 minutes, I’m reluctant to leave. I just want to sit and listen and relax. (Been up since 4 . . . )

    Dare I indulge if I haven’t been to the gym in a week? I may just go flip a coin! 🙂

  15. Happy Birthday michelle — Linda, you’re still here??

    Yes, that “summer rain” was so unusual for us. I walked out of work last night and basked in it. But it was downright muggy when I walked the dogs a bit later. I remember the summer rains in Iowa and how they were such a relief from the heat … but then tended to make the heat & humidity worse afterward.

    I agree about Judy Garland’s voice and talent as a singer. There’s a live/recorded concert she did for TV that has been replayed from time to time. Her daughter Liza also had a good voice (Cabaret), but seemingly a hard life plagued by many of her mother’s same demons. 😦

    Today I’m doing a story on the endangered/rare, quarter-sized blue butterfly that biologists have been trying to nurture into a full revival over the past several years. Unfortunately, the drought is taking a toll on the blue butterfly’s numbers. It only lives for a week as it is.

    It is also my “baby” Chrissy’s birthday. She is 23 today.

    I am praying that God would minister to Chrissy in a strong, personal way today, & draw her back to Him.

  20. Donna – We have humid summers out here in Connecticut. 😦 Sometimes a good rain shower will kind of wash the higher humidity away for a bit, but other times they only add to it.

  22. Every time I work with VBS, the week goes by so fast. Can’t believe there are only two more days. Each day we serve lemonade, matzo with cheese and also with honey, raisins, and watermelon. It’s pretty healthy for a snack.This is my first time in the kitchen ar church. I don’t know where to find things. I just realized that must be the same as when husband enters our kitchen at home. He still does not know where anything is in there. 🙂

  25. I am reading a book called Hiding in the Light by Rifqa Bary. I got it from Christian books for $17>98. It’s an interesting book abut a Muslim girl who converted to Christianity. She hid it from her family for about two years. but her father discovered it. They are now threatening to send her back to Sri Lanka. there they will either kill her or put her into an asylum.
    That’s as far as I got. But I have to get ready to go to Bible study now.
    I highly recommend this book.
    The ladies, especially, will appreciate (I didn’t say “like”) it.

    I know how it turns out because she wrote the book. But I don’t know how it works out.

  28. It is raining…again…tomorrow we are supposed to get about an inch and a half….there will be no sitting outdoors this summer….we usually have no mosquitos….they are multiplying like rabbits around here!!

  29. I’m bushed. I mowed this morning in high humidity and temperatures over 85°. Now I am dragging around tired as anything. I do get heat exhaustion easily, and I think I have a mild case. I am drinking a lot of water with herbal additives or lemon juice, and it seems to help.

    I don’t like heat with high humidity.

  32. Kim- I know heat. After all, I was born and raised in Arizona. I can take heat, just not humidity. I experienced 90% humidity and 90° while visiting New York City. You don’t know heat and humidity until you are in NYC without a/c (my grandparent’s apartment was without it).
