  1. I need to go down to monitor the parking lot for a couple of hours. It’s a Lions fundraiser. We are having Garden Jubilee in Hendersonville today and tomorrow. Lots of people, few parking spaces. We have some to rent.

  2. Janice, a few years ago a pastor in my denomination was preaching a sermon. And he said, “And when I get to heaven–” and raised a hand toward heaven . . . and dropped dead. I can’t think of a better way to die. Hard on the church to be there to watch, in one way, but something they would never forget. If death is ever beautiful for those left behind, that would come as close as possible. (Sudden death with no warning is harder in some ways, lingering death with pain and illness and expense is hard in another. We dream of a long, healthy life and then a couple of days of frailty, and dying with some words of wisdom to the gathered family. But that happens a tiny fraction of the time.)

  3. The two funerals: 1st was for 63 year old Teacher of the Year at local grammar school, daughter of lady at my church. 2nd funeral was 87 year old saint who got polio in her 20’s while pregnant with her third child. She’s been inspiration to so many scooting around in her wheel chair, in and out of Hospice 6 years ago, past president of a Post Polio group, one of our WMU ladies, after polio became a CPA and has been church treasurer.

  4. Here. I’d heard this story at my church when it happened, and it sent chills down me. It occurred to me that something might have been written about it. The first part of this tells of the sweet ending to this man’s life . . . the rest of it tells a back-story I’d never heard, that not every moment of his life was so faith-filled: http://www.chattanoogan.com/2005/1/26/61635/The-Preacher-Who-Died-With-Heaven-On.aspx

  5. 😦 Had to drive up to my vet’s to pick up a 3-6 months’ supply on the meds & supplements my dogs are on (ouch, the flea/heartworm stuff is especially pricey when you have 2 dogs) and coming back on the freeway I saw the early aftermath of a horrible freeway accident (going north, I was traveling south), with an SUV wedged upside down under the chassis of a container truck. Rescue & police were on the scene, but that one looked like it could have been a fatal. 😦 Prayers

🙂 Editors were in Denver this past week to accept a Scripps-Howard award on our education series that also won the Pulitzer … He’ll be going to NY next week to accept that award.

😦 I’m getting stricter on Annie’s curfew after neighbor told me another neighbor’s cat was seen being snatched by a coyote that came up from out of the ravine that cuts through our neighborhood. Happened around midnight a couple weeks ago. I’m still letting Annie out in the day, but am trying to keep her in most of the evening (as well as all night, as usual) — and trying not to let her out until the sun is up, usually around 5:45 a.m. these days out here.

As I left for the vet’s today, though, I saw Annie peering down into the canyon from my neighbor’s garage roof. Said a prayer as I drove away … and she’s fine, she’s in for lunch and a nap, but, sheesh, those coyotes worry me. …

🙂 Gratitude for those who gave their lives for our freedom. It seems to require constant vigilance and sacrifice on the part of every generation.

  6. 🙂 😦 Just caught up with Norma on the phone, she hasn’t made it to church for 2 weeks and I really miss talking to her. She is just extremely tired, especially in the mornings, so said she won’t go to church for now but hopes to be able to start up again when we start meeting at 3 p.m. (when our facilities are going to be undergoing a remodel and we’ll be meeting at another church in the afternoons). That doesn’t start for another few weeks, though.

I wanted to come over to visit today but she said next weekend might be better.

  7. 🙂 A nice, quiet weekend.

🙂 Emily & Forrest are home again. It was nice to have the quiet, but nice to have them back again, too.
