  1. Good morning Aj and everyone else.
I see I need to get my name back. but don’t see the way. Until then, just call me “g2” for short.

  2. Good morning, fellas!
I attended the Restoring All Things conference in Atlanta last night.
The most moving talk was by the producer of The Drop Box movie. Now I am really wanting to see that documentary movie!!! The producer became a true Christian while making the movie. I also really enjoyed Andrew Peterson’s music and he gave a short concert for anyone who wanted to stay, which I did. It was an excellent evening overall, but I would have enjoyed it more if husband had been able to attend. Other than the well known speakers, I did not see anyone I knew.

  3. That sounded like it would be a good conference, Janice, especially with what’s been going on in the world around us.

Was it one day only, or does it continue for a few days?

  4. Love the photo. I have to be near water long term. I can handle inland for a week or so, but I need water.
Carl Perkins recorded some great songs that Elvis and a few others made famous.
I will be back later if I can with a great “Kim feel good” story.

  5. Donna, it was a one evening event. They packed a lot in. I left home around 3:00 so I would miss rush hour traffic. I picked up some food from Chick-fil-A which I enjoyed while parked in the shade to wait. I brought some reading along, too. Since I was early, I went in early to find a restroom and was able to have time to leisurely walk through the displays and speak with a few of the supporting organizations folks. Because I stayed for the add-on mini concert it put me home pretty late. I got home after my husband got home! I don’t like to drive that far at night, but it was at a church where my son use to have band instruction for a few years so I thought I could navigate it okay by myself.

  6. So in 1986 I opened my very first checking account with AmSouth Bank. In 2007 they sold to the Royal Bank of Canada. I was happy enough with them. In about 2012 RBC sold to PNC and it has been trouble every since. I cannot stand banking with PNC. I tried to close my account at one point but forgot about a draft and they let it through, reopened my account, and overdrew it. Rather than go through moving a direct deposit, and two drafts that come out of that account I decided to just leave it alone. I had my paycheck direct deposited there but when I lost my job I lost the direct deposit.
In March they charged me 15 dollars checking account fee. I called their 800 number to protest. I have NEVER had a fee on that account. The condescending man on the other end told me I had agreed to the changes in March of 2014 so that I could get free checks and stop payments. Considering that in the 3 years PNC has had my account I have not used my first box of checks up, I told him I would never have agreed to that because I very rarely write a check out of that account and for 15 a month I could buy my own checks.
I went in to a local branch and a very nice lady fixed it for me. That same night Gallup called with a customer service survey. On a scale of 1-10 how likely are you? 1-1-1-1-1-1 Not very likely.
Yesterday I went into the branch where I opened my very first checking account back in 1986. They have changed it up so a young man met me in the lobby and gave me a deposit slips, added up all the checks I had to deposit and hand it back to me saying “Here ya go darlin’ “. I stopped and turned around and laughed, ” You called me Darlin’ “. I went to the teller, a little older man, but still younger than I am. He told me he would be with me in just a minute. A female teller came back on the line and offered to take my deposit, but couldn’t get the ATM to balance so the man reached over the half wall and took my deposit back. He said, “Thank you love”. I told them they had made my day and if I could get a honey, baby, sweetheart it would be complete, so as I walked out the doors the female teller yelled, “Bye Sweetheart”.

I still hate PNC but they have some GREAT people working for them.

  7. I said I did not know anyone there, but now recall I spoke with a man from GA Right to Life that my brother is friends with since they had a display. I was expecting to meet up with some Ben Carson supporters but did not see a display there. I did enjoy learning a bit more about Trail Life since my son was a scout.

  8. Kim, I was with AmSouth and then Regions in Nashville.

After I married and moved, I left my account open until my house down there sold. One day I got a check in the mail just as we were leaving home to drive through Nashville. It was in my maiden name, and the account down there was still in my maiden name. I thought it might be tricky trying to cash it, since my ID by that time was out of state and with a different name. I went to the window and pulled out the check and my driver’s license and had just started to say, “I have married and moved, but can I still cash this?” But I hadn’t gotten out the words, nor given the teller my license, when she waved my license away and said, “That’s OK, we know you Miss D.” I don’t think she had ever called me by name before, but that day I just put my license away, signed the back of the check first with my maiden name and then with my married name, and she gave me the cash. Even though Nashville is a major city, that day I felt like I had seen small-town Southern service, and I was happy.

  9. Kim, i only go into Chase once a month to pay my credit card bill, but my experience is they have trained their employees to be very nice to customers. I have received several minor compliments at the drive-thru window. It does make a difference.

  10. Every morning, I tell the thirteen year old the same thing, “you have to turn the heat on under the frying pan in order to fry an egg.” And every morning she says, ” Oh no! I forgot to turn the heat on for my egg!” Eventually…I hope….

  11. I do virtually all my “banking” remotely — w/direct deposit, online bill pay/transfers & visits to the ATM now and again. 🙂

I think I even have an account (BofA) that actually charges me a small fee if I go inside the building to use a live teller. Or at least it used to be that way.

Actually I have on occasion walked cash in from my credit union to deposit as I don’t have my CU account online, now that I think about it.

  12. The cottage cheese was in the bottom back of the fridge so it froze some. She scooped herself a bowl but it was too cold so she added milk. It did not warm it enough so she added her three fried eggs (after she turned the heat on and cooked them).

  13. I am hard-boiling 6 eggs (the dogs will probably get 1 each) to get us through the next few days. Hard-boiled eggs are a great breakfast-on-the-go.

I had cottage cheese & a beef patty w/onion (apologies to Chas) for dinner last night.

If that’s not enough, I always keep a frozen entree in the freezer at work. Gotta lose some weight, ugh.

  15. Very early this morning I considered boiling eggs for egg salad for husband’s lunch. Then I moved to thoughts of fried egg sandwich. From there I decided on kidney bean salad. I put the beans in after the other veggies are in the bowl. Then I discovered I only had one can of beans. I asked husband could I put black beans, which I had, with the kidneys. “No.” I did not bother to ask about garbonzos because I knew that would be vetoed. Then I asked about a can of corn. “Yes.” So necessity was the mother of invention of Kidney Bean and Corn Salad for lunch.

  16. Sounds good to me, although I usually opt for the 2% or “low” fat Greek (flavored) yogurt if there’s nothing added to it.

    Garbonzo beans are awful.

Looks like my taxes are ready to go, I signed the forms last night to mail back for direct deposit of my refund checks.

And I’m loving my new tires, I have to say the Jeep rides much “cushier” now.

Spe3aking of Nashville. (I may have told you this before.)
Once while we were visiting Nashville, we were touring, as visitors do. I think we were in line at Rhyman Auditorium (the REAL Grand Ol’ Opry). We weren’t part of the conversation, but I overheard this.
One lady to the other “Where y’all from?”
    Other lady, ‘aLanna”
REALLY! I have a daughter who lives in Marietta”
“We live near there. What church does she attend?”

I never said a thing. But considered that I have never heard a conversation like that standing in a line in the DC area.

  19. I’ll be dropping in various updates as I think of them or have the time. Maybe I’ll have the time to write them all today, since Emily just got home earlier than usual.

So here’s the first one that I thought of…

On Easter morning, Forrest was going to spend some time with his Gramma & Grampa (R’s mom & stepdad), & then be with his dad in the afternoon.

When he had been with his Gramma & Grampa for just a little while (half an hour maybe?), R called Emily, saying he wanted Forrest earlier than planned. He had a hissy fit that Forrest was with his parents, calling each of them, yelling at them that he is more important, & demanding that they bring Forrest back. So they did.

He brought Forrest back to Emily in an hour.

Mr. I’m-More-Important-&-Want-to-Spend-Time-With-My-Son had his son for a whole hour. Wow.

  20. Emily said R’s stepdad called her after R had called him, commenting to her that R is a “narcissistic sociopath”, & that she is doing a good job dealing with him. Emily is glad that his parents can see him for what he is. He currently has cut off his relationship with his mother (before this incident).

After either he left their house or she kicked him out (he’d been living with them for a while), he stayed with his girlfriend’s family. Now he is living in a motel.

Praying for his salvation, & for his parents.

But dinner last night was peanut chicken and broccoli slaw stir fry over rice. 🙂

It was really good. But Cheryl took the rest for lunch, so there’s none left. 😦

I usually have Fage yogurt with my homemade granola…but that piece of cake was sitting there in the fridge blocking my way to the yogurt…I had to get it out of the way somehow….so I ate it!
We awakened to a fresh blanket of snow on the ground….we had heavy downpours of grapple last night accompanied by lightening and thunder….we love it! High fire danger in our neck of the woods right now…the Lord has blessed us with moisture…we are thankful!

  25. Hillsdale College has an offer to celebrate Winston Churchill with an 8 volume set of his official biography for free on Kindle. The email link took me to Amazon. I am not sure if you need to go to their website and Churchill blog to get the deal. It’s suppose to be for 3 days only and an 80.00 value. I got it more for my husband. If Michelle does not have it, I think she would like it.

  27. Thirteen year old daughter is having a disagreement with her speech and remedial teachers. They insist that it has been proven that dinosaurs walked the land millions of years ago and she is a young earth creationist. They also insist that we know the temperaments of various dinosaurs, she insists we can only speculate on them at this time. But her science teacher is a young earth creationist.

  28. With Lee’s blessing, Emily has gotten herself a new/old job. The store she used to work in, before leaving to work with Lee, was hiring, & she applied, & was given her old job back. Although it is only part-time (which is what she wanted anyway), it will mean significantly more babysitting hours for me, which I have to admit I am not looking forward to. I’ve been struggling with the almost 30 hours I currently babysit (with Chrissy’s help, but still not easy at times as Forrest can be more than a handful at times), & with trying to fit in housecleaning & projects, as well as keeping up with reading (which includes this blog) & such.

(In the past, I’ve mentioned babysitting 30 hours or more each week. Now that R has been more consistent about taking Forrest for some time on Saturdays, it has been less than 30.)

Another thing I struggled with, which took a long time to get used to, was the mixed-up schedule between Emily’s working Monday & Thursday mornings (into early afternoons) & going to LPN school Monday & Wednesday evenings, & all day Saturdays. (I’d prefer a more “normal” routine). But I did eventually get (mostly) used to it.

Unfortunately, Claire’s has a policy of having their employees work different schedules each week (I forget why), & one often doesn’t know the week’s schedule until a day or two before the new week starts. But Emily said she is needed mostly for opening the store in the mornings, so hopefully that will give some semblance of routine, although the particular days she works will vary.

This may not be the prayer thread, but please say a prayer for me to adjust well emotionally & mentally to this upset in my routine/schedule. I’m really not looking forward to it.

  29. It was easy.

Cut up some chicken breast into little pieces, then stir fry in a little oil. When this chicken is done, remove it to a paper towel. It gets the extra oil off. Then add half a bag of Wegman’s broccoli slaw (red cabbage, broccoli, and carrots all match sticked) and red onion. Stir fry over high heat for a couple minutes. Throw the chicken back in with a little bit of pepper flakes and some crushed peanuts, add 1/3 a bottle of Bangkok peanut sauce, cook another minute or so, and serve over white rice.

It’s not something I’d usually make, but Cheryl likes it, and it really is good. Plus it’s easy peasy, takes about 10-12 minutes total. 🙂

  31. It is very warm here tonight so I will probably not rest well this evening. It is 78 downstairs in the cooler part of the house. It must be 85 upstairs. Without turning the air conditioner on it is humid, too. I need to drag out the fans.

Husband is still swamped with work. Every year he claims it is worse than before.

AJ, that recipe sounds super for ease and flavor. Thanks.

  32. Long night for me tonight, another reporter and I spent 4 hours out on the fishing docks where a family in a car drove over the the side of the wharf and into about 30 feet of water. Sadly one of the two boys later died (the other, last I heard, remained in grave condition). Police are investigating, it remains unclear what caused the car to go over, whether it may have been intentional or a very strong accident … 😦
