  2. The Good Friday organ/violin duet went pretty well yesterday. There were a few mistakes, as is inevitable with public performance, but everyone seemed to like it anyway. The pastor made a recording of it and sent it to us – so I decided to test my limits and made a YouTube video of it. See if this works:

However, we will not be able to do the Easter duet. I’m putting a note on the prayer thread related to that.

  3. Good morning! We had a great Good Friday service. I wish I could hear it again.

I have a lot to do today.
Is anyone doing Easter eggs? It’s been years dince I did, but my favorites were some that we dyed in pastel colors and then had some special glitter to put on for sparkle. It was not normal glitter, but the kind that came with the egg decorating kit.

A tax client usually brings in a few specially decorated large sugar eggs that are open on one side so you can peep inside and see some little chicks or other decor. They are very decorative yet fragile eggs, not the kind a child would play with.

  4. From my devotional reading yesterday, from the book A Dangerous Grace by Charles Colson with Nancy R. Pearcey:

I am reminded of the old spiritual, “Were you there when they crucified my Lord?” I have always understood this refrain in the classic theological sense that we were all guilty of putting Jesus to death because of our need of atonements. But as I began looking more closely at the crucifixion scene, I felt cause to “tremble, tremble.” For those two men who died alongside my Savior are representative of all mankind. Either we recognize our sinful selves, our sentence of death, and our deserving of that sentence, which leads us to repent and believe–or we curse God and die.

You were there. What was your response?

  5. Many times I’ve heard people say that if they were there, they would not have gone along with crucifying Jesus. But we all were there, screaming at the top of our lungs “Crucify him!” along with the crowd; we were there, pounding the nails into his hands and feet; we were there, mocking him who for us was on that cross; we were there, wagging our heads and beating our chests, asking “He saved others, why doesn’t he save himself?”; we were there, piercing his side with a spear.

  6. 6Arrows Thank you for sharing that. Peter, thank you for explaining more. Because I have always been fascinated with history (even have a degree in it) I get extremely frustrated with people who look at historical events and say, “I wouldn’t have done that if I were there” or whatever phrase. You didn’t physically live in that time frame. You weren’t a product of that time. How can you say what you would have done 2000 years ago. You may have been the one leading the charge.

  7. Interesting question Michelle. I hesitate to speculate after my above rant, but I suppose He was in heaven discussing things with the Father. Resting and refreshing for the next day. Sometimes it is too awesome (in the truer sense of the word) to wrap my brain around. That is when I decided I am not intelligent enough to fully comprehend it and peacefully accept it.

  8. I’ve always loved “Christ the Lord is Risen Today,” RKessler. Thank you.

Here’s one of my favorites at any time of the year, but definitely appropriate for Holy Week/Easter.

  9. Thanks for all the words of encouragement. RKessler, those two hymns will be sung tomorrow in my church. 6 Arrows, I was delighted to be able to download the sheet music for In Christ Alone from the Getty’s website for free!

    Bob – That’s a good idea.

Michelle, this link might interest you: http://www.thebigroundtable.com/stories/shell-shock/. It is about two society women who volunteered for the Red Cross in WWI.

  10. Long day with Carol, but she’s back in the convalescent home and is in good spirits. I took her an Easter basket with a card, a couple books, a magnifying glass (her eyes are giving her problems) & the cookies and diet coke she requested.

She seems to be in a slot just recently vacated, however (she’s the middle bed of a 3-person room with curtain dividers. The side table is loaded with flowers, Happy Mother’s Day wishes, and a 3-foot tall Virgin Mary statue with roses on top. Pretty impressive in a Catholic kind of way. 🙂

(We were told the family would be coming to collect the items, the woman was discharged today).

The young, Philippine nursing assistant was so sweet, very perky and helpful getting Carol settled in, a real sweetheart. God bless the people who work in these places, I definitely wasn’t made of the “stuff” that can do it.

There are still some loose ends — apparently her clothes & walker were sent mistakenly to a completely different convalescent home (with a similar name) in Hollywood. So those have to get back to her somehow. But I’m not worrying about that right now. They said the social worker for the facility Carol’s in will be at work first thing Monday morning and some of those can be worked out with her, hopefully.

  12. note to self: cheesecake must be made early in the day. Recipe says to bake for an hour, then turn off the oven and let it cool in the oven for an hour, then put it on a rack and let it reach room temperature before putting it in the refrigerator. No, I am not planning on staying up for several more hours.

  13. Thanks for sharing your article, Donna. Very well done.

It’s a little past three here, and I am awake. Went to bed around 11:30 and slept well until about 10 minutes ago.

But since it is now Sunday, I can say…
