Good Morning!
It’s Friday!!!

On this day in 1820 The Missouri Compromise was enacted by the U.S. Congress and signed by U.S. President James Monroe. The act admitted Missouri into the Union as a slave state, but prohibited slavery in the rest of the northern Louisiana Purchase territory.
In 1834 the city of York in Upper Canada was incorporated as Toronto.
In 1836 the thirteen-day siege of the Alamo by Santa Anna and his army ended. The Mexican army of three thousand men defeated the 189 Texas volunteers.
In 1854, at the Washington Monument, several men stole the Pope’s Stone from the Lapidarium.
And in 1947 the first air-conditioned naval ship, “The Newport News,” was launched from Newport News, VA.

You may have to repost, Ann. I checked everything this morning before going to the Y.
I will go back now, but mostly, I don’t go back again.

The one about Bibi saying “The enemy of your enemy is your enemy”. reminded me that in 1041, Past President Herbert Hoover said, concerning Germany and Russia. “We have nothing to choose between.
I told you last evening that the plane Harrison Ford was flying was a T-6. It looked like it from the TV pictures. But I just saw a picture in the paper. This plane is older than that. The T-6 had an enclosed cockpit for both pilot and student.
I know nobody cares, but I wanted to sit the record straight.

They say it was an old test plane that was used to train fighter pilots.

My dad bought his first plane with the pieces in bushel baskets. He put it all back together. I remember watching him iron the material that covered the outside. It is very loose until heated. He used an old household iron.
He had many flying buddies. One crashed a plane he (the buddy) had just put together and was taking on its maiden flight. He was not hurt. It was more difficult for those watching from the ground below. I am sure his wife almost had a heart attack.

Hello, all.
I posted a prayer quite early on yesterday’s prayer thread for Ann and Michelle’s requests.
Really hoping for some better weather. We have had so much rain. Would send buckets of it to CA if I could.

Sunny & birds singing here, too. But now that our much-weakened El Nino has finally (belatedly) arrived, maybe that means a little more rain through the next couple months before summer arrives?
Some heavy prayer needs on the prayer thread today. 😦
Kim, have a great time at the retreat.
I’m off to do a story about landslides today. Where did this week go? Can’t believe it’s Friday already.

I can’t believe it’s the end of the week, too.
I just read the end of yesterday’s thread. Although Miss Bosley has her very irritating habits, I blame us as much as her. She still has fantastically sweet moments, too. I don’t feel I should put her outside, although I think it would improve her indoor time. Some neighbors have not been cat friendly in the past.

Them dumb daffodils out there don’t care if it’s only 46.1 degrees.
Maybe they’re telling me something.

I don’t think that I have ever had glitter in my sink before.
Three year old boy was non stop energy at the park and took on a tunnel slide designed for much older kids.

Chas, we are counting down the days till our predicted 45 degrees next week. I may sit out back in shorts and a T-shirt and watch the snow melt. Our backyard has been deep in the stuff for weeks, and now it’s covered with a layer of ice.

It is 44 degrees here right now….the snow on the ground keeps it feeling a wee bit chilly, but that sunshine is warm and welcomed! The next week of predictions call for no snow…hurray…what we have on the ground is going to take a while to melt….lots of slushy ice on the roads and my car needs a washing..it appears to be an orangey brown instead of pearl white 🙂

Hmm–thought those should be daffodils or tulips, but they look like irises from here. 🙂 At any rate, they look beautiful and warm—no matter what the temperature is there.

According to this, “the least of these” is us – Jesus’ disciples.

Cat lovers: I hope you can see the humor in this from today’s Garfield comic. Liz says they should do something exciting and Jon says they could give the cat a bath. (You’ll have to read the comic for the punch line.)
One of the comments:How to wash a cat
1 Put both lids of the toilet up and add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to water in the bowl
2 Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the bathroom
3 In one smooth movement put the cat in the toilet and close the lid. You may need to stand on the lid.
4 At this point the cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this!
5 Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a ‘Power-Wash’ and ‘Rinse’.
6 Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there are no people between the bathroom and he front door.
7 Stand well back, behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift he lid.
8 The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom, and run outside where he will dry himself off.
9 Both the toilet and the cat will be sparkling clean

Weird day, they’re doing some promo commercials for he papers (I suspect to be used for would-be buyers, not readers) so I got drafted to do one of the pieces. It began with one of those movie wood boards with my name on it (you know they kind where they snap the top down and say “Take One”?)
We had to talk about the importance of local news, what we do, how we connect to our communities.
I started out strong but then slipped into a deer-in-the-headlights mode, my sentences a couple times trailing off into …. space ….
They asked if I wanted a scotch. I don’t know that I’ve ever had scotch, but I said, yes, maybe that would help. 🙂
We finally got through it — thankfully I wasn’t the only participant and these will be edited with lots of footage of our cities, so maybe not much of us other than voice overs …
And the filmmakers were overly patient and flattering, I think they were trying to make me feel better, but they were very sweet, saying I did great, I was one of their best … yada yada yada.
Ugh. Not my forte.

Had to take the comforter off their bed and take it outside to shake it had so much glitter on it. No, we did not use glitter here. One of granddaughters backpacks seemed to be full of glitter. I forgot to shake off their pillows. Oh, well….

A friend sent me some glitter in a holiday card last year and I still find some of it, every now and again … But it always has a pleasant connection to my friend and the holiday. 🙂
