In 1861 The Provisional Congress of the Confederate States of America elected Jefferson Davis as its president.

In 1895 Volley Ball was invented by W.G. Morgan.

In 1895 the first college basketball game was played as Minnesota State School of Agriculture defeated the Porkers of Hamline College, 9-3.

  2. I don’t know if many of you caught that I am going back to work with/for Guy I Work(ed) With. He is now the Senior Director of the Commercial Department. I move over to that department on Wednesday. The company will pay half of my salary and he will pay the rest. Because I am the only person who can deal with him long term without losing my religion (sometimes that is questionable) it is worth it to sponsor a portion of me working with him. This is one of those situations where it is”the devil you know”. At least I know what I getting into.
    I was tasked on Friday with coming up with my own job description by the COO of the company. I wrote what we had discussed and sent it to Guy yesterday. His response was “I hope you are kidding”.
    The move is scheduled for this Wednesday. So far I do not have a concrete job description and there are a lot of loose ends about the details of compensation and expenses. The consolation is that at least I will have some sort of job and some sort of income.

  3. We tape CBS’ Sunday Morning and watch it later. Yesterday on their calendar they said that today marks the start of Random Acts of Kindness Week. I posted it on FB so I will ask you about any Random Acts of Kindness you have given or received.

    I have done anything since around Christmas. It might be time to look for an opportunity to do something nice for someone in February because it is almost half over already.

  4. I sent my niece cookies, does that count?

    She told her father I’m now the favorite of everyone in her dorm and I should make more.

    So, would that be bribery instead?

    Delighted to report she learned how to scrub potatoes yesterday, something she agrees is “probably good for my life,” now that she also has scrubbed a toilet for the first time.

    Honestly, she could have learned all this stuff for free at my house without home work and sub-zero temperatures . . .

  5. Well, Kim, at least it won’t be boring. Are the challenges of the job enough that your heart will routinely race high enough you can forgo a gym membership as well? 🙂

    That was from the day a couple weeks ago that I got up really early and intended to go back to bed except I found out about the hoarfrost, and then had to go ahead and stay up and get photos once it got light. I was photographing a tree that’s different from the one where I get most of my bird photos, so basically I just “happened” to be taking photos of ice when Mrs. Cardinal flew in. I got two or three photos of her, and then Mr. Cardinal landed behind her, and of course I had to include him. (It even works that he is out of focus, since there is no confusing him for any other bird, and it;s unusual for a cardinal photo to put just a little more focus on Mrs. Cardinal than on Mr., so I like it.) I took just this one quick shot and then they both flew away.

    I’ve noticed this winter that the female cardinals coming to our tree are all identifable, all marked a little differently. This is our dark one, with feathers that look almost black in some light.

  11. Hello from rainy Atlanta. Yesterday was truly beautiful and spring was in the air, but today has reverted to dreary winter weather. I know CA would love this rain, and I wish to send it there!

    Looks like we have a week filled with temperatures in the 70s and even maybe the 80s, all with sunshine — no rain in sight.

  13. I am thankful last week was fair since I made a lot of trips to the dumpster while helping my friend. I probably would not have been the friend to do what I did had it been raining.

  19. Feeling back to the land of the living today. Got a good sleep.
    Emailed my property manager about work to be done on the house, in their response they said that the house is being shown three times today! Rent would be good.

  21. Beautiful header photo, Cheryl. I enjoyed your description, too — Mrs. Cardinal and Mr. Cardinal. Around here we call them Mama Cardinal and Daddy Cardinal. 😉

    I recognized Helene Grimaud at the piano right away in that first video, AJ. I had watched a video a few weeks ago of her playing Bartok’s Rumanian Folk Dances, the solo I’m performing in April, and she was wearing the same outfit in both videos. There were Chinese (I think) subtitles on the screen both times, too, so both pieces may have been from the same concert.

    She’s one of my favorite pianists. The ending of the Berg piece was stunningly beautiful, and I thought she captured well the subtle emotions and dying away at the conclusion of the sonata.

  23. Good Monday ya’ll….that is an amazing photo Cheryl….right place, right time….camera close by!
    Today we are in the 60’s and the air is so springy fresh…the windows are open and I’m a cleaning around here. We have had a few dry windy days around here…time for some more snow….we do still have quite a bit left on the ground around here though….I love the snow..but that ice on the roads is just no fun!

    Well, I’m not going to be around here (at home) much longer, as soon it is time to take one of my daughters somewhere. I will check in from the library then, instead of from around here. 😉

  39. I see the humor is going strong here.
    Hawaii was great, but coming home with a cold wiped me out. And adorable grandchildren are only adorable for so long. 🙂
    lots of sweet special moments though in getting to know them.
    Pretending to roar at three year old Paxton, he squeals and then looks at me and says, ‘do it again”

    And we can’t even get Forrest to put on clothes to come downstairs to see us.

    That boy loves to be naked. We usually get some underwear on him at least. And lately, with the cold weather, he likes wearing his jammies. (The soft, cozy “sleeper” kind, all-in-one, including feet.)
