Prayer Requests 1-6-15

Anyone have something to share?

Psalm 24

¹The earth is the Lord‘s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.

For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place?

He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

  1. Please pray for Jim, one of our elders, battling a lung infection in a Sacramento hospital and in danger of dying. He was code blue last night, but is still alive this morning.

Jim has been a quadrapelegiac (however you spell that) since falling a cliff in Ecuador while serving in the Peace Corps in the late 60’s. He’s used his time to get well educated and is a thorough and fantastic Bible teacher. He also home schools high schoolers in Spanish and probably other subjects I don’t recall.

He’s had a tough year battling bed sores that won’t heal and now this lung issue. His wife, Carol, is by his side and is a nurse. We’re a couple hours from Sacramento; I’m not sure if anyone is up there ministering other than through prayer.

You’ll remember our pastor, too, lost his dad on Christmas Eve. It’s been tough for everyone, but especially his mother who has dementia. Dad did most of the care and now everything changes.

We’ve got other nagging issues at church–perhaps prompted by our attempts to become a Nomadic Shelter for the homeless this winter. The spiritual warfare is vigorous–and several leaders are struggling with the stacked up issues that keep jabbing. One member, in particular, is such a legalist that we’re not sure he’s even a believer–his attitude is shocking. But, he persists, making the burden heavier for everyone.

Tares within the church–we need to love them just as much as the “good guys,” but sometimes it’s hard.

And for me–incredible bad attitudes at the gym, from me. I’m not sure what’s up here, but I’m confessing the sin and asking for a change of heart, I guess.

  2. Michelle – I’ve been struggling with a bad attitude in a couple situations myself, & have been submitting my heart to God, begging Him to cleanse me & change me. I think the recognizing of the bad attitudes, & truly wanting God to change us, is really more of a great work of the Holy Spirit in our lives than we can sometimes realize. The rest – the actual changing of our hearts in those areas – may be a long process, but God is pleased even with our stumbling baby steps. Praise His Holy Name!

  3. Michelle, Do I remember correctly that yours is an LCMS church? Might there be help from a Circuit Counsellor (I think they call them Circuit “Visitor” now)? I should probably put this on R&R some Saturday, but when we moved here two years ago, the local LCMS church was in the midst of searching for a new Pastor and since we’d been through that seveal times, we stayed away, trying other churches in the area or travelling an hour back to Baltimore. This summer, they got their new Pastor and he’s wonderful. The really “rave” part is that at the beginning of the process they agreed that if they couldn’t end up on agreeing on a candidate, they’d let the District assign a seminary graduate. That is what ended up happening and, like I said, he’s wonderful (and everyone thinks so). God is so GOOD.

  4. aarrgh… just got a letter notifying me that my tenants are moving out the end of January. These are the ones that only moved in in July. Prayer needed that I will trust the Lord for His timing and His provision.
I haven’t even met these folks yet.

  5. Feeling a bit better right now, although we are exhausted.

My mom is also doing a bit better, but she doesn’t eat enough for a fly. She thinks she can live alone, but that will not be happening. We have worried every time my dad has been in the hospital. We let her get away with it, but checked in as much as possible. It wasn’t ideal, but all we could do. There are several options we can give her, but none she will like. Please pray we can work this out peacefully.

  6. I have a meeting in an hour with the resource specialist at the public school to see what options she has to offer on behalf of daughter. It was supposed to be tomorrow but today is better though I am still under the weather. Wisdom. Thanks.
