  10. I like the German language. Don’t know a lot of German, but enough to know Mumsee’s greeting.

    Singing “Silent Night” in German (I only know the first verse) is very enjoyable. We sang it every year for the Christmas service at the Christian school I attended in grades 4-9. Memorizing it then, and having sung it periodically over the years in other church services, has helped me keep the words in my memory.

  14. Kali mera!

    Mike is doing. He continues to hurt but his family doc has approved a lymes test and will see him on Thursday. I try to encourage him to get up and move as per doctor’s orders, but he resists that. One of the coaches for boys’ basketball, and a friend, came over yesterday. He was astonished at how far down Mike has gone since he saw him last. He explained some anatomy to him and told him he needed to get up and walk so his bones don’t fuse. Mike is trying.

  27. Not much rest last night. I spent the night kicking myself. Just at bedtime, voices were wafting down the hall to my room. On inspection, I found a profanity laced conversation emanating from a couple of my boys. I thought we handled that years ago. Sad. I apologized to God, now to forgive myself and move forward.

  29. Mumsee, you work so hard with your children, & are giving them a wonderful life. Unfortunately, they can choose to ignore some of what you have taught them, as mine have chosen to ignore some of what I’ve taught them. It is so very discouraging.

  31. By far the most difficult at this time would be the thirteen year old boy. He is living a very restricted life. Due to his molestation problems and destructive tendencies, he has to be watched all of the time and cannot be free ranging like the others. Very much limits his activities though he is able to go to the neighbors’ several times a week for several hours where he is able to act like a thirteen year old boy. But that is wearing out as he has been manipulating them and they are getting tired of it. Prayers appreciated as always.

  33. Mumsee, Michelle posted an article yesterday on Facebook dealing with Lyme disease. Wow, what an eye opener. The gal who wrote the article, or blog post, chronicled her history with the disease. Such a long time of doctors not having any answers and then tests which didn’t really give much in the way of results. Opened my eyes to what you are dealing with. Praying for you all today as you meet with the doctor.

  34. Thanks, she sent it to me. I showed it to husband. The Lymes disease test came back negative, as we expected if he has had it this long. The doc says there is no way his muscles could have atrophied to such an extent in such a short time just due to sitting in his chair. He is not making any suggestions to husband, but took lots of blood and he is scheduled for two MRI’s on the nineteenth. One on his brain, the other on his neck.

  40. Doctor was rather alarmed at husband’s appearance. He had not seen him for a while and he has lost about fifty pounds now. His muscles are atrophied and he is nearly unrecognizable. We have had that doc since moving to the area about seventeen, eighteen years ago. He takes care of the entire family residing here. Nice guy.

  42. quite a busy day here. I went and observed in a kinder class that an old friend teaches and learned a lot. Then did some shopping for a friend who is off on a cruise and needed wool socks for Alaska. Finally able to get a haircut. Excited to spend more time in the classroom tomorrow. The teacher even introduced me to the class. When I visited several times at the Christian school, the teacher was very friendly and helpful, but never introduced me to the class. I felt rather invisible.

  43. Busy day here, too, babysitting Forrest all day. But it was very pleasant outside, eventually getting up to the low 70s, with a nice breeze.

  44. Not much happening around here. Slept in until after six, did my chores, weed eated for about an hour, lectured two boys on the dangers of the internet, starting schoolwork with the smaller folk, off to Moscow to visit parents, mow the lawn, and wait for eldest daughter and son in law to arrive.

    That reminds me of the former neighbors. One of their sons didn’t find school all that interesting, apparently. He showed up at our house one day (he was high-school age) and just kind of followed my husband around, not saying much, just hanging out mostly.

    Hubby asked him, “No school today?”

    The boy said, “There’s not much going on there.” 😉

    So hubby got him busy helping him with whatever he was doing.

    My MIL says she’d often get calls from the school, asking where (my hubby before he was my hubby) was. She never knew exactly where, but he’d always be over at one neighbor’s or another’s helping out with the farming. That was a lot more satisfying to him than sitting in a classroom.

    So I’m sure he could relate to the neighbor boy not finding much of interest at school.

  47. May be heading to Colorado tomorrow. hard to make myself pack when I don’t yet know if there will be room on the flight. I may go on Monday. Who knows when I will return? Probably Friday or Saturday. My daughter understands my need for some space and quiet, so we work well together and I look forward to helping her.
    There is also a plan for me to meet my youngest daughters soon to be mother in law. She happens to be visiting in Denver for a few weeks where one of her children lives. So we are planning on having her for dinner. it will be nice for me to meet her with some other family.

  48. I remember packing to maybe get on space A flights. You are right.

    Some of my children have suggested I ought to get a job to fill my time and maybe contribute something to the family. I have not done it yet, I prefer my carefree existence.

  77. Life has not been hard for me and I am grateful as I am not a very strong or courageous person. There have been a few challenges and that is enough. But God is still good.

  93. Narnia fans: I reported here that we’d finished The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Now we’re done with the second one (going in order of publication), Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is on hold at the library. Great books!

  100. I came home in time for my grandson’s 10th birthday tomorrow. But heard a message on my machine that they already celebrated. 😦
    I even stopped on the way home and got another gift for him. So sad.
    Now I don’t know if there will even be a family dinner tomorrow.

  102. I came home today to another message. Mom said that Sunday was the kids party and we will be celebrating tonight. HOORAY!!

    Second Arrow was home from Monday morning to Wednesday morning, and then yesterday was media-fast day, as usual, so I’ve hardly been on here and don’t know what’s going on. I’ll have to get caught up sometime, but it probably won’t happen until Monday or later.

    But I will come sneak a peak tomorrow to see what (or hopefully who) is in the header picture. 😉

  124. Went back to watch the rest of a Little League game today. They ended the game at 10:30 last night and came back to play the last inning today as it was the playoffs. Jack’s team won and will play for the championship tomorrow. I heard that his dad, the coach, told the boys that he would get a Mohawk if they win tomorrow. Fun times and fun to be a part of.

  125. No Chick fil A around here. One of the irritations in my life is the late night activities for school children. I realize the coaches are volunteers often. But staying out to midnight on a school night for sports? And then having homework to do? Bizarre.

  127. Started packing my suitcase to take back. I leave this house next week, so it was time. It will be interesting to see how much it weighs. I already mailed 25 pounds of books and 40 pounds of mostly school supplies. Too bad that vitamins cannot be included in those shipments. PNG will not let you ship anything that you take by mouth.

  128. A lot of the school year, children around here have sports until ten or eleven at night on Monday or Tuesday or Thursday as well as Friday and Saturday. Not Wednesday because that is CCD and we are in a strong Catholic area.

    PNG trying to keep the drugs out? Or trying to keep the obesity rate down?

  142. oh, you all are funny. It is fun to come here and make a comment that only a few of us will ever read. Almost a more private thread.
    I loaded all my hanging clothes that are in those wardrobe bags into my van today to take over to my friends on Tuesday. A lot of clothes, but it is bulky winter things and a few nice things that I don’t need in Ukarumpa.

  147. VBS: I love VBS as that was my introduction to Christ. I had never heard of Him before and as soon as I heard about Him, I became His child. However, as the parent of many oppositional children, I will say that coddling them does not help me. Asking about the chicken is great, by the way. But letting my child have any warnings does not help him. He knows the rules, he knows not to step on other children’s toes, he knows not to walk around during class. He knows not to dominate the conversation. He needs to sit out for the next activity. He needs me to be told he is not the little angel I know he is not. When he gets away with stuff, it makes the VBS job more difficult and makes the parenting job more difficult. I have tried not sending him, but they insist they want him there as well. I have made him miss part of it, but this year he stayed for the whole thing.

    So, the moral of this story is: thank you very much for doing it. It gives child an opportunity to hear the Truth from another source. It gives me a much needed break. But don’t think for a second that his behaviour in your class is what is allowed at home. Make your life and mine easier but not letting it slide.

    So many people love what we do and how the children are turning out. But so many think we are too hard and need to just love them more. We do love them, but with real love comes discipline as we know from God’s example. Our oppositional children need perhaps stronger walls.

  150. VBS went much better today. my whole group came. yes, I did give the boy limits and worked to include him. I also allowed them to visit with the other two groups we went around with. Turns out my boy had asked to be in a group with this other boy. Well today I talked to that boy and found out that he had never been to our church and the boy in my group had invited him.
    Makes sense to be together. They are in different groups, but there were ways to allow them to be together for some of the activities.

  151. I appreciate that. It is concerning to walk in and find my guy wandering around while the teacher is teaching. He can do so much better.

    And I have been a teacher and helper in VBS for years but the last few years I did not feel up to adding one more item to the plate.

  156. I love that this is still going!

    VBS is so very important (just like summer Bible camp). A friend’s daughter went to VBS, became a Christian, brought her mom (my friend) and dad to church. They were saved and when I met them the dad was an elder in the church. Daughter went to teach at a missionary school in Cote d’Ivoire and then married an MK and they are now missionaries in a closed country. VBS is so important. 🙂 Thank you to all those who teach and help out.

  161. had a date with my granddaughter today. I told her on her birthday in March that we would have a date, so it was time. We went miniature golfing and she even got a hole in one. Other than that, we were both terrible. Making memories…

  162. Did I miss the party? The boys are off on a backpacking expedition. Should be fun. Especially if they catch up with the rest of the group, with the only adult, before nightfall. They expect to catch him tomorrow so they will sleeping in the wilderness on their own. Should be good for them.

  171. The boys are back. Didn’t get started until five thirty in the evening, hiked eight miles until they set up camp. Then seventeen miles and found the other guys. Camped, then hiked seventeen miles, camped, and another eight. They got tired. But they did it. They did not need their tent.
