Prayer Requests 12-1-14

Anyone have a request or a praise they’d like to share?

Psalm 145

¹I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.

They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

10 All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee.

11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

  1. Prayers for my sister, Linda. She’s feeling overwhelmed. They return to Rwanda January 20, and she has a lot to do before then. Additionally, her daughter, Hannah, isn’t doing well and could use prayers. Also, her son, Stephen, is thriving academically at Texas A&M, but has renounced Christianity, which breaks her heart.

Continued prayers for me as I attempt to “let go and let God” in relation to the situation with my mother and others in my family-of-orgin.

    Thanks.

  2. Prayers for my sister and her church situation, please. She is involved in counseling young women, there are some serious sin issues involved (one of which, I pointed out to her last night, could actually be a criminal issue), and she just doesn’t have a very good pastor.

Some of her pastor’s counsel to her specifically has been unbiblical, but she is still choosing to submit to it; some has been unbiblical, but she doesn’t see it as such. We want to counsel her that it’s time to leave the church (it’s not as simple as that, since there are no good churches in her area–she has looked and so have we), but whether she stays or leaves, she is still engaging with women who need help, and she needs wisdom to do that.

  3. I am filled with a lot of self doubts today. The voices in my head are not very kind.
I am also dealing with more and more of the job duties I truly enjoy being stripped and given to someone else.
I had grand plans to decorate the company Christmas tree this week, but this morning the receptionist told me that she told her children they could do it. I can’t tell a child they can’t help decorate, but it left me with that old failed perfectionist, adult child of an alcoholic feeling. “If they don’t like how I do it, I won’t do anything at all”. I don’t like that feeling.

  4. Your sister needs to be very careful, Cheryl. If there is possible criminal behavior, as a counselor, she may be a “mandatory report.” She and her pastor both need to check the law, otherwise they could be making themselves vulnerable to a lawsuit.

I say that not to worry her/you, but as a protection from a weak church setting. Some of that reporting is shielded in some states through clergy rulings–but that means her status needs to be clarified within the church setting and probably in conjunction with a board of elders. This might open her eyes in ways God deems necessary. Praying.

And Kim–is that where that indignant hurt reaction comes from? Must think about it in relation to me. With prayers for you and Ann, too.

  5. Yes, Michelle, that is where it comes from. The translation is that if what I do isn’t good enough then you don’t deserve me to do anything—do it yourself.
My father and uncle laughed at me washing a car sometime about 1988 or 89 and I haven’t washed another for fear of being laughed at. Hurts no one but me when I have to pay for a car wash.

  6. Well, I guess I blew it. Husband called the dentist to find out what she had referred me on to another dentist for. Seems it was a root canal. I had not heard that part, must have been inattentive. I thought she just said it was an infection, confined to the crown area it was under and I needed to get it taken care of eventually. I suspect, if I had heard root canal, I would have made it a priority. But that is where we are now. My jaw is swollen up like a golf ball, nothing is stopping the pain though some things help, husband is on his way home but won’t be here in time for me to go in today. My babysitter is in the big city and won’t be back until this evening. So, can’t get in until tomorrow and then they will have to start the process over again. Maybe I will take a notebook and write things down. Maybe not.

Anyway, prayer for pain control and that the infection does not get too carried away. I don’t know if the staph infections we have been dealing with could be involved as well. Lesson learned? I doubt it.

  7. Old Southern Wives Tale is to put a tea bag in your jaw next to the affected tooth. I don’t know if it works or not but I have known people who swore it helped.

  8. Daughter, the CCU nurse, tells me I should not wait until my dental appt tomorrow as it could lead to all sorts of complications if it is an abscess. She would know. But then, that still does not resolve the babysitter problem.

As for husband, his doctor now tells him he has two kinds of arthritis. Rheumatoid and osteo. He scoffed at the Canadian doctor’s opinion. And so it goes in the medical field.

  9. Deleted (Michelle?), that is exactly what I told my sister (except that I don’t think she would be a mandatory reporter . . . she is simply an older woman in the church, not a professional counselor, and she got the report from someone else–she isn’t involved in counseling the person); but I told her that her pastor is probably a mandatory reporter, that he MUST be involved in this, and that it is probably criminal behavior if one of the circumstances is what she thinks it might be. That possibility hadn’t occurred to her, because she was so focused on the sin involved.

  10. Heavenly Father,

As the days go by like train cars pulled along the track, we can see the fullness in each day’s load. We see a mixture of light and heavy loads. Thank You for eyes to see and ears to hear Your words helping us to pass the time wisely I lift up all the needs listed today. I know Your heart reaches forward and pulls us close. I praise You for Your wisdom and your constant companions

Lord, You know how tired I am this evening. I just wanted to remind You of these important needs. Thank you for caring for us and our daily encumbrances. May You be glorified daily and eternally.
    In Jesus’ name, Amen

  11. Kim, please read this with kindness, not with judgment, but did it have to be either/or? Couldn’t you agree that sounds like great fun for the kids and ask if you could join in? Looking at it from both sides, maybe they, too, had grand plans for decorating the tree and would have been equally as disappointed if you had commandeered it?

  12. Linda, the issue isn’t really the tree. The issue is that when I try to do something or am told to do something there are 4 other people including the receptionist trying to control it. It is micromanagement at its worst.
