On this day in 1835 Hans Christian Andersen published his first book of fairy tales.

In 1913 Ford Motor Co. began using a new movable assembly line that ushered in the era of mass production.

In 1941 the Civil Air Patrol was created. In April 1943 it was placed under the jurisdiction of the Army Air Forces.

In 1955 Rosa Parks, a black seamstress in Montgomery, AL, refused to give up her seat to a white man.

And in 1969 the U.S. government held its first draft lottery since World War II.

  1. Good morning! Nice to see Miss Bosley’s paw is getting some snow on it! I thought this paw picture resembled some alien creature that might make a good stocking stuffer for a child who has everything. It also reminded me of the old rabbit’s foot key chains. I never had one, but remember getting to touch one a friend had. How politically incorrect we were back in those days, and we had no clue that we were! Does anyone else remember those key chains? I asked my husband if guys had them, too, and he thinks that they did.

I will think about the fairy tale. I remember one I really liked but will have to look up the title if I can find it.

  2. Quick, go check on the pet rock!

“then I dreamed that my fifty Chevvy was on fire and I called 911, but I didn’t know the address. Terrible night. My wife disappeared and my car burned up.”

    Tune up the twanging gee-tars.

  3. Bosley’s paw pads are bubblegum pink. You don’t really expect that until she turns her paws up. ❤ And you really don't expect those claws she has in hiding. Yowee!
God does have a sense of humor in some of His creations!

  4. Dogs dropped off at the groomer and I have my annual eye appt at 11. Then it’ll be off to Lenscrafters to order the glasses (my doctor’s office is way too expensive for glasses & Lenscrafters is having a 40%-off sale on lenses).

Then I need to chip away at picking up the house so decorating can begin. And I need to get new windshield wiper blades.

    Stay-cation is in full swing.

And the rain is almost upon us — we’ve had some already, but not the main event yet. The skies are lead gray.

  5. My Bosley what big paws you have!! 🙂
Cold frosty morning here…all the pines are flocked in white icy crystals…as the sun breaks through, the frost is falling like glitter…I’m in a snow globe!!
As children, we would listen to children’s stories on the record player…I have vivid memories of the The Gingerbread Man….”run, run, as fast as you can, you can’t catch me…I’m the Gingerbread Man!!”

  6. Hello, I haven’t been around much as life is pretty busy. Answer to QoD: Pandora’s Box, if Greek myths count (my father’s fairy tale book had a childlike retelling of the myth), also the myth of Psyche and Cupid.
I posted this on FB too:
Musical Advent Calendar – Day 1: My favorite carol and one of the oldest, with words dating from the 5th century Liturgy of St. James. Sung traditional French melody, Picardy.

    Let all mortal flesh keep silence, and with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing earthly minded, for with blessing in His hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth, our full homage to demand.

King of kings yet born of Mary, as of old on earth He stood,
Lord of lords in human vesture, in the body and the blood,
He will give to all the faithful His own self for heavenly food.

Rank on rank the host of heaven spreads its vanguard on the way,
As the Light of light descendeth from the realms of endless day,
That the powers of hell may vanish as the darkness clears away.

At his feet the six-winged seraph, cherubim with sleepless eye,
Veil their faces to the presence, as with ceaseless voice they cry
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia, Lord most high!

  7. Pigskin Picks Results are in!

Sorry for the delay in posting the Pigskin Picks results. You can see them here.

Do we want another round? There are only 14 games scheduled this week, including some conference championships. If you want to pick them, say so here on this thread or tomorrow’s daily thread. I’ll check tomorrow night. If only a few say yes, then we won’t do one.

  8. Favorite fairy tale? I always get a good laugh when a student tells me “I did my homework, I just left it at home.” Oh, you mean other fairy tales? So that leaves out the Theory of Evolution. Hmm… I can’t think of one now.

  9. Tuesday morning and no snow here. I was awakened in the night by something hitting my head. I turned on the light and found a curled up bug. When I got my glasses I watched it uncurl and then reveal wing. I quickly dispatched the bug. Could not figure out how it landed on my head all curled up like that and where it came from.

  10. My favorite fairy tale was Felicity and the Pot of Pinks. I have no idea what it was about anymore. I wanted to name our first daughter Felicity, but my husband was not a fan. I have it in a fairy tale book and think I will read it again, but keep forgetting.

Others I liked were Repunzel and also Rumpulstiitskin. Aladdin and Ali Baba and the Den of Thieves were also favorites. Nothing like a magic carpet ride, which is what those bring to my mind.

  11. I guess I never went through the fairy tale phase. Early on, I read a book called “Black Beauty”. After that, it was “Ton Sawyer” and Huckleberry Finn”, the Hardy Boys series, “Treasure Island”. Then I got hooked on Zane Gray’s westerns.

  13. Mumsee, from yesterday – Canadian football – very exciting nail biter of a game! And when the Stampeders get a touchdown, their horse runs down the sidelines with a beautiful girl holding a Stamps flag on it.
Hope your tooth is doing better.

  14. For printer ink, we found a place that sells them at half price. Still a lot, but much easier on the wallet. Yeah, it’s an off brand but printer ink is printer ink. I think we found it through Amazon.
