Becca-boo and I just finished snuggling. The fire is lit (it’s 43 here this morning, which feels cold to this Texan) and everyone else is still asleep. I’m cooking today–just a couple of pies and the orange sauce for the sweet potatoes.

😦 Yesterday, I estimated that Aj spent about half an hour putting the blog together every day.
I thought abut that this morning when I noticed that I had spent about 15 minutes putting together the comment I made on the “News & Politics” thread about the calorie regulation.

I remember this from my childhood. My father drove me by the tree and pointed it out to me. He explained what happened and how senseless it was. I don’t remember all the details and I don’t remember everything he said to me. I do know there were no riots.
As always, in times of inner turmoil I turn to the Book of Common Prayer for guidance. It often tells me which scriptures to read. I’ve included several. They all seem to fit.

The hawk is a juvenile Cooper’ hawk, its prey a simple house sparrow. I thought the feathers in the air were a cool touch. (His beak would have feathers stuck to it and soon they’d float downward, so I assume he was periodically cleaning his beak with this tongue or something.)
It was far from ideal photographic conditions, midday with a gray sky, but I was standing by the kitchen window when the bush beneath exploded with bird wings. Initially I thought blue jay, but immediately realized it was bigger than that and thought Hawk! So I watched to see the hawk, and it came out clutching a bird and flew to the cottonwood on the other side of the driveway to pluck it and eat it.
It was within easy shot of my zoom (though I did have to be cautious to shoot through the waterdrops on the window, and it was at an awkward angle), and it stayed there for a half hour. Both juvenile and adult Cooper’s hawks are almost impossible to tell from sharp-shinned (and juveniles are very different from adults), but this has the curved tail feathers and a couple other features of the Cooper’s, so I’m fairly confident that is what it is. At the end of its visit it cleaned its beak, stood for a while with its tail feathers fanned out (that’s when I saw its “fan” was rounded), and then flew off. I was hoping to get photos of it flying, but didn’t.

Just finished shopping for our feast. 🙂 I went today because of the snow forecast for tomorrow. It was crowded but we got thru pretty quick. Starting Thursday I will eat turkey and the sides for 3 days straight. And pie. Pumpkin of course, and chocolate cream….mmmmmmmmm 🙂
And then I will be sick of it all and won’t eat it for another year. 😯

We’ve finished up school (except for a test tomorrow) until the 8th. Sunday is Cheryl’s birthday, so we’re having an extended weekend tomorrow thru Monday. 🙂
I’m thankful for my girls, and some time together at home. 🙂
Plus football, lots and lots of football and food….. 🙂

Aj, a rant before Saturday because I will be busy with the Christmas dinner then.
The SC/Clemson game starts at noon. we start abut noon. I suspect there will be a TV on somewhere because we also have Clemson fans coming.

We got our turkey last Friday — 27.75 pounds — and the rest of the groceries we need for our feast I bought Sunday night. Today I made gluten-free bread, and still need to make cornbread tonight, both of which will go in the GF stuffing. I’m also making GF biscuits tonight.
Tomorrow I’m making apple cider, the GF stuffing, pumpkin spice muffins and pumpkin pies. The rest of the food will be made on Thursday.
Not too much more is needed to get the house in order, and by tomorrow evening, everything should be pretty ready, my two piano students will have had their lessons for the week, and the four youngest of my children and I will head to church for Thanksgiving services at 7:00 pm. Hubby and 1st Arrow have to work, and 2nd Arrow won’t arrive home until later, like 10:00 pm or so.
But we’ll all be able to celebrate Thanksgiving together, along with 2nd Arrow’s boyfriend, and my whole side of the family. Twenty-six of us in all.
The next two days will be busy at home, so I don’t think I’ll be on here. Praying you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, with blessings of peace and harmony from our gracious Lord.

I tried to post earlier but it got lost in transmission.
We had Early Thanksgiving with son in TX. It was very good to spend time with him and cook turkey and dressing in his small apartment.
Bosley is glad to be back at home after boarding for almost a week. She is reestablishing her attachment to me.
I love the H.E.B. grocery store in TX! Wow! Just Wow!
Snow is a fifty percent chance for tomorrow. So far protests in Atlanta are peaceful.

It was difficult to leave all the. Thanksgiving leftovers behind in TX. That is the only time I have not gotten to indulge in leftovers. That will happen again on Thursday when we go to Crackerbarrel. So my new tradition is Thanksgiving with no leftovers.
