What’s interesting in the news today?

1. Well the grand jury in Ferguson has delivered a decision to not charge Officer Wilson. The reaction to it is as many feared.

From TheWashingtonPost  “A grand jury on Monday declined to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager, resolving a secretive, months-long legal saga and reigniting powerful frustrations about America’s policing of African Americans.

The decision means that Wilson, 28, will face no state charges for the Aug. 9 shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown. It also set off a show of fury on streets near where Brown was shot, a reflection of emotions that register in this riven city as either out of control or justifiable.

At least two police cars and a half-dozen buildings were set aflame. Not far from Christmas lights in downtown Ferguson that read “Seasons Greetings,” police fired tear-gas canisters to contain the crowds. People looted liquor and convenience stores, a response that ran counter to the peace that Missouri authorities, President Obama and Brown’s family had requested.”

Fox had on the President’s speech following the decision. As he called for calm, the split screen showed protesters trying to overturn a police car while fires burned in the background and tear gas clouds floated over the protesters. They obviously chose to ignore the President.

2. Just in time for the holiday. They hope we’re not paying attention.

From TheDailyCaller  “While Americans are focused on what delicious foods they’re going to eat for Thanksgiving, the White House is focused on releasing its massive regulatory agenda — marking the fifth time the Obama administration has released its regulatory road map on the eve of a major holiday.

The federal Unified Agenda is the Obama administration’s regulatory road map, and it lays out thousands of regulations being finalized in the coming months. Under President Barack Obama, there has been a tradition of releasing the agenda late on Friday — and right before a major holiday.

“It’s become an unfortunate tradition of this administration and others to drop these regulatory agendas late on a Friday and right before a holiday,” Matt Shudtz, executive director of the Center for Progressive Reform, told The Hill newspaper.

The White House’s regulatory agenda for spring 2014 was released on the eve of the Memorial Day weekend, when millions of people set out on weekend getaways or family vacations.”

3,415 new regulations to be exact.

3. About that new Benghazi report….

Security team members on the ground that night disagree forcefully. Basically the report says no one is at fault and nobody did anything wrong and there was no cover-up.

4. How Obama is still making things worse.

From TheNYPost  “The short bios in The Post and other places featuring immigrants who are in the United State illegally were fascinating. I was struck by their courage to leave their homelands, their pluck at navigating a new culture and their patience in waiting for America’s official welcome mat.

Something else struck me, too. Not a single one expressed remorse for jumping the fence or overstaying visas. The law was simply a nuisance, an unfair barrier to their right to live in America, and they felt no qualms about violating it.

Some of these immigrants, including one woman who sneaked in from Mexico 18 years ago, even complained that presidential amnesty doesn’t include free health care. “It isn’t fair,” Graciela Flores whined.

What luck — she and the other 5 million who benefit have found their soul mate in Barack Obama. He’s not into obeying laws, either. And he is endlessly entitled to whatever he wants, whenever he wants it.

Oh, sure, he has twice taken an oath to “faithfully execute” the nation’s laws, and to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” But he’s not serious about oaths, either. As America has learned, his word is not his bond.”

  1. I haven’t turned the TV on yet, so I haven’t seen anything.
However, I know that if it weren’t fforTV, there would not have been any riots.
Nor would there have been beheadings.
    It’s all for the show.

  2. From the Washington Post, via Drudge.

“It’s about to get a lot tougher to hide from calories.
Chain restaurants, vending machines, grocery stores, coffee shops and pizza joints will soon have to display detailed calorie information on their menus under long-awaited rules to be issued Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration.
The calorie-posting requirements extend to an array of foods that Americans consume in their daily lives: popcorn at the movie theater, muffins at a bakery, a deli sandwich, a milkshake at an ice cream shop, a drive-through cheeseburger, a hot dog at Costco or Target”

What nonsense! Don’t those idiots know that people are trained to ignore such things. They are essentially not there. All it does is add cost to the hamburger.
But regulators are there to regulate. And regulate they will. Now we need to hire some people to see that the regulations are observed. But no one will ever determine if they are effective.
Only someone will do a doctorial thesis on that someday.

  3. In many places people protest, riot and loot in support of criminals. In West Texas people just go to work and pay taxes in support of the police.

  4. I eat completely differently now that I see the calories listed– which has been the law in CA about four years. I rarely eat fast food anymore. Just can’t bear the numbers . . .

  5. The news media is in a quandary. You simply can’t not cover these things (and it’s no picnic for those having to do it — I watched a couple female CNN reporters last night get pelted by rocks being thrown).

TV cameras may have an influence (though I doubt too much of one in this case). If the TV cameras were banned (which would be illegal, it’s a public street), there would still be cell phone videos galore posted and played continuously online.

These things just take on an ugly life of their own. It becomes mayhem that can’t be stopped.

Very sad. 😦 Praying this won’t recur night after night as it did in the summer. But the police and other authorities are in a bind as well. Any overreaction (real or perceived) will only fuel the flames all the more.

  6. I wouldn’t want to be in there Donna. No thank you.

Sounds like the perfect thing to cover by air, but I’m sure they’ve no fly zoned the area. So send in the drones to report, the govt is. 😦

The thing that I find disturbing is the cities other than Ferguson. That’s Sharpton’s action network, Jesse, and ACORN agitators. It’s all for show.

The President made things worth fulfilling his ever expanding need to talk and be relevant.

But it’s all an organized show. It’s obvious who’s egging things on, but they have the Presidents ear and favor soooo…

  7. And don’t forget the power of social media in driving many of these events nowadays. More than anything else, I think that’s how many of these incidents grow and thrive.

  8. And bloggers who make names for themselves in hyping up the stories, along with people looking for more twitter followers.

I was following the #ferguson hashtag last night on Twitter for a while when the decision was announced and it literally was getting 60+ new tweets every minute, most of them expressing outrage.

  9. Not helping.

How do you not charge this guy? I understand he’s upset, but you still don’t do this. That’s inciting a riot, and they seem to have listened.

And it’s completely contrary to what Brown’s mother and father said.

    http://www.thesmokinggun.com/buster/ferguson/burn-this-bitch-down-879056

“Michael Brown’s stepfather last night repeatedly urged protesters to “Burn this &#@%! down” after a prosecutor announced that no criminal charges would be filed against the Ferguson, Missouri police officer who killed the unarmed teenager.

Louis Head, an ex-con who is married to Brown’s mother, Lesley McSpadden, was with McSpadden outside the Ferguson Police Department headquarters Monday evening as prosecutor Robert McCulloch disclosed that a grand jury declined to vote an indictment against Officer Darren Wilson in the August 9 shooting.

After consoling a weeping McSpadden, the 38-year-old Head–who was standing atop a platform in the middle of the agitated crowd of several hundred protesters–began screaming “Burn this bitch down!” He did this at least ten times, and at one point yelled for a microphone so that he could broadcast his incendiary message beyond the range of his unamplified voice.”

“In the days preceding the grand jury announcement, McSpadden and Michael Brown, Sr. issued statements calling for peaceful protests in the wake of the panel’s decision. Head, however, counseled arson. After a night of chaos and rioting in Ferguson, at least 10 businesses and two police cars were destroyed or damaged by fire, and 61 individuals were arrested.”
