Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks- Week 13

13. Some consider it unlucky. But I don’t believe in luck, good or bad. So, you can try your luck at guessing the winner of these ten eleven games, or test your skill, whichever you prefer.

Just get your guesses in by Saturday @ high noon! (That’s 12 EST, the beginning of the 13th hour of the day.)

Editors Note – As you can see below, I’ve added an 11th game this week because it’s a special occasion in the college football world. Saturday at Yankee Stadium, the longest running rivalry in college football will play their 150th game.

Here are your games (no apologies for the extended commentary):

 1. #25 Minnesota @ #23 Nebraska – Can the Cornhuskers overcome their problems against the Gophers? At least they are at home in Lincoln.

2. Fordham @ Army – The Black Knights are 3-7 and have lost to some good teams, and some bad ones. They’ve beaten some bad teams. But Fordham is 10-1 this season. You do the math.

3. Boston College @ #3 Florida State – The Seminoles almost lost to an unranked team on the road last week. The Eagles are a sacred bird to Native Americans. Think the Seminoles will let their Sacred Bird fly away with a win? I doubt it. They wouldn’t want the embarrassment at home.

4. #24 Louisville @ Notre Dame – The Fighting Irish have become the Fading Irish. Crushed in Arizona, then defeated by Northwestern at home! The Cardinals (a bird, not a religious leader) don’t stand a chance.

5. #15 Arizona @ #17 Utah – The Wildcats still have an outside chance at getting their first ever PAC-12 Championship and a trip to the Rose Bowl. Watch out, Utes!

6. #19 USC @ #9 UCLA – These two, and Arizona State, are the other PAC-12 South teams vying for the championship game. Too bad they all can’t lose. (Yes, I want Arizona to go for the Roses. We Wildcat fans have been waiting for 35 years.)

7. #8 Ole Miss @ Arkansas – Too bad the Rebels had to play Auburn. But they still have Mississippi State on the schedule. Perhaps their dream season has ended. The Razorbacks better tread carefully.

8. #20 Missouri @ Tennessee – The Tigers are in the lead in the SEC East. Unless they blow it against the Vols and the Razorbacks, they’ll play in the SEC Championship for the second time. So they miss the Big 12? No.

9. Boise State @ Wyoming – Broncos vs. Cowboys. It looks like the horses could win this rodeo.

10. South Alabama @ South Carolina – 6-4 Jaguars visiting 5-5 Gamecocks. Sun Belt vs. SEC. I think a .500 SEC team that plays a harder schedule shouldn’t have to worry about a .600 team from a less challenging conference (They have not faced any ranked team other than Mississippi State). But this is college football. Remember, it’s Chas’ team hosting this one.

11. Editors choice- Lafayette vs. Lehigh – Playing game number 150 at a neutral field, Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Guess the winner and final score.

As an added bonus this week I’ve decided to give the people what they want, a shiny red sports car! (picture). If you guess the winner and final score of the Lafayette-Lehigh game exactly, you’ll win this….. A picture of a shiny red sports car. I’d love to buy you a real one, but this is kind of a low no budget operation we have running here. 🙂

I’ll even autograph it if you like. 🙂

  1. Okay, AJ. We’ll allow the addition. I’m sure Chas won’t mind, since it was his week to pick the tie breaker. But it means I have to “research” before making the pick!

  2. Oops. Sorry Peter, and Chas. 😦

I’d forgotten last weeks winner picks this weeks tie-breaker. Didn’t mean to step on any toes, That game is a big deal around here so I wanted to include it. My apologies….

Since I’m sure I’ll win (note I didn’t pick Army) I’ll let Chas pick next weeks if I do.

  4. That’s OK,Chas will likely cry all night, but it will be ok in the morning.
Just kidding, guys. I don’t really care.
    So? Here goes.’

Nebraska, I don’t know why, except Nebraska has a tradition.
    Fordham
Florida State. I hope not, but that’s the way to bet.
Louisville. I’ve never voted for Notre Dame (Says a Purdue man)
    Arizona
UCLA Again, just a wild guess.
Ole Miss I hope they can recover.
Tennessee. These guys can be bad.
    Boise Of Course.
South Carolina It really isn’t fair. They should stay in the same league.
    Lafayette 21-14

    Lots of rivalries next week.

  5. We just noticed that TRW picked the same tie breaker score as Chas. TRW will therefore change his tie breaker score to Lafayette 24-14.

  6. This week it looks like we all are of like opinion on winners, with some few exceptions: of 9 participants so far, all have picked UCLA and Boise, 8 picked FSU, Louisville, South Carolina and Lafayette, 7 pick Nebraska and Fordham, 6 have Arizona and Ole Miss. It may be the odd ones out on one game could be the winners. Or, it may be that the tie breaker will decide between several of us.

  7. What a difference one game makes. If kbells had picked Minnesota, she would have won since she was closest in the tie breaker, only off by 8 points. If TRW had picked Minnesota or Arizona, he would have won, missing the tie breaker by 10. If Ricky had picked one of those two, he would have won with a tie breaker of 18. But all those had 8 games correct. The actual winner had a tie breaker score of 21, but got 9 correct, having been only one of two people to pick Minnesota over Nebraska. So, congratulations go out to the winner who will not be named as the other Minnesota picker (mumsee) would be jealous. Oh, well. If you haven’t guessed by now. I won.

Other than the aforementioned 9 correct by me and 8 correct by kbells, TRW and Ricky, our other scores were IBNO with 8 (TB=56), Chas, mumsee and Tychicus with 7 and AJ with 6.

    Game results:
    Minnesota 28 – Nebraska 24
    Army 42 – Fordham 31
    FSU 20 – Boston College 17
    Louisville 31 – Notre Dame 28
    Arizona 42 – Utah 10
    UCLA 38 – USoCal 20
    Arkansas 30 – Ole Missed 0
    Mizzou 29 – Tennessee 21
    Boise State 63 – Wyoming 14
    USoCar 37 – So. Alabama 12
    Lafayette 27 – Lehigh 7

Since Chas didn’t get his game as the tie breaker, I’ll use the South Carolina at Clemson as the tie breaker next week, foregoing the Arizona State at Arizona showdown. That will just be a pick the winner game. (I think it will be high scoring by at any rate.)
