Prayer Requests 10-18-14

Does anyone have a request or praise they’d like to share?

Psalm 111

¹Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.

They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

  1. Pray for my friend Donna and her family — she and her husband have been good church friends to me and so many others. Her husband, Jack, appears to be near death (he’s 93, she’s in her mid 80s I believe).

They moved to Colorado earlier this year to be near their family who all began settling there some years ago — many grandchildren and now great-grandchildren among them. Our church hated to see them go, everyone loved them so much — and they were in the former church I belonged to as well, so I’ve known them for a number of years.

They’re an amazing pair, two of the busiest and hardest workers in our church (Jack, who was a Marine, headed up a neighborhood visitation committee into his 90s and Donna never missed a baby shower, knew everyone in our 300-member church, an amazing woman).

I chatted a bit with Donna on private FB message last night, she’s exhausted — Jack has had health issues in the past month that led to 2 surgeries, much weight loss, but they decided no more surgeries. She felt Jack was just hanging on until he could see their one remaining California son who was flying in last night.

Their single daughter also msg’d me saying how hard it is but that they certainly couldn’t do it without knowing the Lord and knowing her dad’s eternal destiny. He leaves a wonderful legacy in the many believing family and friends who were so influenced by his example of a faithful life. He had more energy right up until the end than many half his age. And always a huge smile on his face when he’d arrive for church, shaking hands, saying how good the Lord had been to him that week.

At 93, a pretty good run. But so many will miss him so much.

  2. They are, 6 arrows. An amazing couple. We were sorry to lose them when they decided the time was right to move to Colorado, the church gave them a wonderful goodbye lunch, but it was a good decision.

  3. Got word that Jack died tonight — so prayers for his wife and the rest of the family. He was always one of those “larger than life” people, it’s hard to think of him as not being here anymore. 😦 😦

  4. Oh, so sorry, Donna. I just whispered another prayer for his family, and reread your post/prayer request for Jack and family just now. What a beautiful tribute you wrote — his legacy touched me, too, just through reading about God’s faithfulness in his life. Thank you for sharing.

  5. In church today I sat next to the 2 empty chairs where Jack & Donna used to always sit. 🙂 Funny because, for the most part, those two seats have remained empty ever since they left earlier this year. They really were “their” seats.

I missed not taking Norma to church, but it has freed me to sit farther up toward the front (she prefers the back so we always sit in the 2nd to last row) — and also to stay for the Q&A adult SS (Norma is usually too tired to stay for that). Had a chance to chat with some folks I hadn’t talked to in a while today now that I’m a roaming “single” at church again. 🙂 I tend to stick pretty close to Norma usually.

  6. Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the encouragement given to me and others through this blog. I did not go to church today, but my spiritual life was enriched by hearing of others sermons. I was refreshed by hearing about Jack and Donna and their many years of fruitful service. Thank You for saints like them who are the best examples of doing life Your way. Please give Donna and family comfort and rest now that Jack is with Jesus.

Father God, Abba, thank You for the rest my husband has seemed to enjoy lately. Please help him to not go back to smoking as he engages with his stressful work again. Please may the problems that occurred in his absence have a speedy and good for everyone resolution. I ask that You would guide him and give him wisdom in handling fragile situations. Please help all the husband’s of my blog friends who have any for of issues with their work. May their work become more enjoyable and less stressful, please.

I ask, Lord, that You would bless Jerusalem and all of Israel with peace this day and evening. Please scatter the enemies and take away their desire to harm the people of Israel.

I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen
