Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks- Week 7

Here they are folks, the ten games for which you will predict the outcome. There are some major games, and one Division 2 game I threw in for fun. You see, it’s homecoming week at my alma mater Truman State. So while the big guys at Mizzou try to improve in the SEC by beating the Bulldogs from Georgia, 90 miles to the North the Bulldogs of Truman will try to improve in the GVC against the Cardinals. Karen picked the tie breaker game, which is also the Pillow Fight of the Week. Two 1-4 teams play in the Big Easy.

So, happy guessing to you. Remember, guess the winner of all ten games, as well as the score in the tie breaker.

1. #2 Auburn @ #3 Mississippi State
2. #13 Georgia @ #23 Mizzou
3. Texas @ #11 Oklahoma
4. #12 Oregon @ #18 UCLA
5. USC @ #10 Arizona
6. Rice @ Army
7. VMI @ Navy
8. Penn State @ Michigan
9. William Jewel College  (2-3) @ Truman State (4-1)
10. Tie Breaker: UConn @ Tulane

  1. Miss St
GA – like the tigers but they won’t stop the running attack
OK – UT can’t handle them
    Oregon…holding nose
    USC – luck nruns out…sorry Peter L.
    Rice
    Navy
Penn State…kind of a who cares at this point?
Truman State – William Jewell gave us fits when I was at Graceland in the 80’s
    Tulane 42 – 31

  2. Chas’ wild guesses. He really doesn’t have a horse in this race.
Gamecocks should trounce Furman. It isn’t fair, but it’s a state law.
And Michigan State should beat Purdue.

Auburn. though I kinda hope Miss St wins.
Georgia, likely will take the eastern division.
    Oklahoma
    UCLA
    Arizona
    Army
    Navy
    Penn State
    William Jewell
    Tulane 14-3

  3. Mumsee- There is no Boise State game because “your team” isn’t playing this week.

    My picks:
    1. Mississippi State – They’re pumped and at home again.
    2. Mizzou – Tigers at home usually do well, especially when Conference rankings are on the line.
    3. Oklahoma – In the Red River Battle, I’d sooner be a Sooner than longhorn.
    4. Oregon – The Ducks are out for a win after last week’s disaster.
    5. Arizona – No reason to say why. Bear Down Arizona!
    6. Rice – Based on a more balances offense. But I could be wrong.
    7. Navy – I didn’t even realize the Virginia Military Institute had a football program.
    8. Michigan – Odd that neither team is in the Top 25. That will still be true for Penn St.
    9. Truman State (4-1) – Truman used to be in the toughest Division 2 conference, and had .500 seasons, Now they play in an easier conference and do well.
    TB UConn 14 Tulane 13

  4. Technically it’s Reorganized Latter Day Saint…now the Community of Christ. That’s not the Mormons…

Honestly, I went because of some family ties but I was not a very good student, had no real motivation, and it ended up being a bad fit…the field house there is named after my great uncle…check out a picture of the architecture sometime…it’s called the Eugene Closson Center

Army – can’t go wrong with basic black
Navy – navy is one of my favorite colors
Penn. St.- I don’t like yellow
Truman – I like Harry Truman
    U Conn – cute doggie. 24-14

  7. I want to change my guess on Georgia/Mizzou.
    Mizzou!
I just read in the paper that Georgia has suspended Gurley for some NCAA offense.
Georgia without Gurley is going to be like South Carolina without Clowney.

  8. I have not checked all the scores, but for those who originally had Georgia and asked to switch, I will give you the Georgia win. People around here are not surprised at Mizzou’s bad play, as there is talk that the coach is going to retire and hasn’t had good recruiting the last couple of years. So it sounds like Mizzou is going to be at the bottom for a while until things settle down. (I.e.- last year’s team was the last good one for a while.)
Oh, and Truman State blew a 17 point lead and lost 21-17. 😦

  9. The results are in: IBNO wins!. He had 8 correct, even though he was way off on his tie breaker.
Other scores: Mumsee and TRW 7; Aj and myself 6; Chas, Ricky, Tychicus and Janice 5; kbells 4.

IBNO- tell me your choice for next week’s tie breaker game. You can even make it your alma mater, if you wish, since we had one Div 2 game this week.

For the record, here are the final scores of the games:
    Mississippi State 38 – Auburn 23
    Georgia 34 – Mizzou (I’d rather not admit) 0
    Oklahoma 31 – Texas 26
    Oregon 42 – UCLA 30
    USC 28 – Arizona 26 😦
    Rice 41 – Army 21
    Navy 51 – VMI 14
    Michigan 18 – Penn State 13
William Jewel College 21 – Truman State 17
    Tulane 12 – UConn 3

  11. The law of probabilities gives you five. Not much to gloat about here.
At least the Gamecocks didn’t lose. They sat out the week.
    They play Furman next week.

  12. Okay, so doing actual research didn’t work. The pretty color method didn’t work. Time to try the cute quarterback method. The research will be difficult but I will just have to deal with it.
