Prayer Requests 9-20-14

Would anyone like to share a request or praise with us today?

Psalm 83

¹Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.

For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.

They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.

They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:

10 Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.

11 Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:

12 Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

13 O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.

14 As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;

15 So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.

16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.

17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:

18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is Jehovah, art the most high over all the earth.

  1. Okay, so our very troubled sixteen year old who is currently doing very well, did not make it in time to catch the ride home from the Fair last night. I sent him with another sixteen year old, and two seventeen year olds. They were going to help with a square dance at the specific request of one of the callers. A performance. They told me they would be home at nine. I did not think so but figured it was an exercise in accountability and integrity. It is a little over an hour’s drive.

    At eight forty, one of the girls called to say they were supposed to meet at the car at eight and the boy had not arrived, what should they do? I told them to come home and let him take the greyhound tomorrow. He did a similar thing at another county Fair a few weeks ago and got left behind. He walked and rode his bike up that grade I have mentioned, and made it home in a couple of hours. Yesterday’s would have taken at least three days of walking.

    Anyway, he arrived at the site five minutes after they left. But, what the girl failed to mention was that they had just finished their part of the dance and arrived at the car. They had not been waiting for him for forty minutes as she had lead me to believe. She was trying to shift the blame so she would not get in trouble for being late.

    He used initiative, I had left the cell phone with him so he could call the square dance folk, and called some of the people we know who live in that town. The guy, a pastor, came and got son and drove him home at three in the morning, when he got off work.

    This is the son of whom we had tremendous concerns due to his history and behaviour during his first year with us. He has made tremendous strides in the right direction. We were very concerned he had taken a wrong turn but it all looks legit so we are delighted. A praise indeed. Thanks for carrying us to the Throne in your prayers. Please feel free to continue to do so.

  2. Tough Love, Mumsee. It is often harder on the parents than the child. You will look harsh to those who don’t know the story. You are doing the good and loving thing.

    Tell the 16 year old how proud of him we are. Or don’t… he may not appreciate that you have friends (that you have never met in person) whom you tell his most intimate details. He thinks that his secrets are secret.

    Will the family be coming out west again? We still have a parking pad for a trailer with an upstairs “apartment” for travelers. With a full bathroom! (There is a drain to connect the sewer hose from the trailer too.) There is lots to see and do here in Crescent City, CA. The ocean, big trees, hiking paths, river rafting, fishing (in the river, on a lake, in the surf, deep sea, off a pier) and of course our 2-3 acres of second growth redwoods. Oh, and we have 2 bald dogs.

  4. We hope so Bob Buckles. But, as you know, this age is very busy. I am hoping some of them will enroll in College in January. We will see.

    Jo, stop here too! I am sure Donna won’t be in the guest room yet.

  5. Jo,

    You are also welcome!So is anyone else! The guest room is actually 2 rooms with a full bath in between them. It has an interesting view of our “Wall of logs and stumps.” i have tried to put in a picture but I can’t figure out how.

    It is usually quiet around here, except for our 4 dog alarm system!

    Did y’all know that the Smith River here in Del Norte county is the cleanest river in the Lower 48?

  6. Actually the most impressive thing to many on this blog will be the weather. I don’t think it has reached 80 degrees here this summer. Maybe the mid 70s. I got tired of hot weather in Los Angeles. I don’t miss it. I did go down to Santa Rosa where it got up to 104 in Cloverdale, near Michelle.

  7. About all we have to offer is grain. Lots of grain. Maybe that is why not a lot of people live around here. No accounting for taste I suppose. Oh, and spectacular views, world class rapids, rich and famous hunters, trophy elk and white tail and muledeer, bears, world class fishing, mountain lions, backpacking, hiking, skiing. Just the usual. But we are looking forward to Jo’s arrival next summer.

  8. Fifteen and sixteen year old are off to the big city again today. Fifteen year old is taking the motorcycle course to get his approval rating for that. Sixteen year old plans to attend church with the folk who brought other sixteen year old home yesterday morning at three. Prayer for wisdom and safety for them. The instructor called to tell me fifteen year old was there but I had neglected to notarize his permission slip. He is good with a phone ok so they will have fun.

  9. Bob, Downey is hot.

    Coastal South Bay, much, much cooler. 🙂

    Looking forward to our pastor’s return to the pulpit today following a sabbatical and thanking God for the other elders of our church who fill in so ably in his absence. We also have a new 25-year-old ministerial intern who will be with us for the next year.

  10. Mumsee! 😀 I’ll have to try to meet this Bob Downey. …

    My friend N (the 81-year-old I drive to church who is going through tests for a malignancy) seemed rather down today. She has one more test to take, an endoscopy on Oct. 3, and it just seems like she’s feeling dragged down by it, which is understandable. This has been ongoing for some 5 months now, tests and doctors appointments, with much uncertainty without a strong prospect for a good outcome just yet …

    So for now, pray that she will feel better with some rest (and our cooler temps are helping, i think, as well). Also that she can gain some weight. She said she’s eating but can’t gain anything (she’s always been tall & thin but now looks much too underweight to me, especially considering she may have some recuperation time ahead — if she winds up having a surgery — when some extra pounds could help sustain her better).
