Good Morning!
On this day in 455 Rome was sacked by the Vandal army.
In 1567 Mary, Queen of Scots, was imprisoned in Lochleven Castle in Scotland.
In 1858, in a speech in Springfield, IL, U.S. Senate candidate Abraham Lincoln said the slavery issue had to be resolved. He declared, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
In 1952 “Anne Frank: Diary of a Young Girl” was published in the United States.
And in 1978 the film adaptation of “Grease” premiered in New York City.

Morning all, we do say morning here for the first half of the day.
Just a half day of school left. Only 10 students, my smallest class and three will not be returning. Very sad

Good morning! I didn’t get much sleep last night. The dog (Buddy) was crying around midnight and I took him out. Then, he wouldn’t come in for over twenty minutes (which is highly unusual). He was lying under the trampoline. I was so scared he’d gone there to die. He’s twelve and has slowed down a lot lately. It will be an extremely sad day when he expires… But, then, he came to the back door, seemingly happy. Hooray! He’s still breathing harder than usual. I don’t know if something’s wrong with him or if it’s just the heat. Anyway, I slept fitfully all night and finally gave up around 5:00 and got up.
L. is back at horse camp as a junior counselor this week. Becca has pottery camp Tuesday through Thursday (it runs from 10:00 to 3:00). Not sure what’s on the agenda for today… Hopefully, someone can come play…

Jo: Are you coming home when school ends?

No, I have no plans for the 5 week school break, other than helping with the quints.
School begins again July 24th. I will be home for a six month furlough at Christmas.
I serve for two years and then com home for six months. Lets me see the grandkids more and I have no reason to be home for a full year.

We had the extended family over for dinner yesterday. As we usually do in that case, we say the Common Table Prayer together for grace. Immediately after “amen,” our year-and-a-half granddaughter yelled, “EAT.”

Half a school day, Jo! That makes for extreme apinun, except for the forever goodbyes. You will bless them and know they are in God’s good care so let that thought override sadness.

Ann – That’s sweet. Chrissy was my cuddler, until she reached the teen years, & the Asperger’s tendencies kicked in more. (But she still could give a tremendous hug when she wanted to. Still can.) Emily’s version of cuddling was to sit close to me on the couch, & lean on me. Forrest does that now, but he usually has to be tired to actually sit still long enough. 🙂
When Forrest was a baby, I held him while he napped when I babysat him. As a young toddler (before he gave up naps around two or two & a half), he would still fall asleep in my arms, hugging me, & I would often just sit & hold him, watching something on TV.
I do not consider any of that time to have been wasted. It was very sweet, & it went by way too quickly. Nowadays, I am grateful for the brief times he leans against me, or sits on my lap while we’re playing.

Speaking of Forrest, I am currently babysitting, but he is sleeping in late today. Praise God! Sometimes he is up too early for my tastes.
Unfortunately, I got up earlier than I needed to, even though I didn’t get enough sleep. I could tell that Emily had forgotten to open the doors between our “apartments”, which, combined with being hard of hearing (& not wearing my hearing aids to bed, of course), meant I wouldn’t hear Forrest if he cried for me. It was that awkward time of morning – early enough to be able to go back to sleep, but late enough that getting up to open the doors woke me up too much.
Oh, well. At least I’ve had some nice quiet time this morning. 🙂

Karen: yes, I love that she’s a snuggler. And that, even though she’s nine, she still sits in my lap every morning for at least thirty minutes. She’s quite small for her age (I’m only 5’2″), so she doesn’t squish me yet! It’s a wonderful way to start the day!

Have any of you ever tried to make a fake bird’s nest for a decoration? It’s nearly impossible. It’s amazing to me that a bird with no hands/thumbs can make a neat little nest for her babies.
I crawled onto my mom’s lap once when I was almost a teenager – she told me I was camel and to get off! I was taller than her at the time – we both had a good laugh and a hug!

Yes, those nests are so interesting to see. Each bird makes what is appropriate for itself. Again, God has such variety. I find it interesting to see all the egret nests on the larger telephone poles. We have many along the roads we travel.
Children are so different as to how much they snuggle. I had one, out of three daughters, who did not care to do that much. My youngest was always one to touch more and still is. She would plop in my lap when she was quite old. The camel quote could have been used. 😉
I am amazed by the adults who will not allow others their space. Some people are huggers and others are not. Yet, some have to make a big deal out of that and insist on hugs, whether wanted or not. I find it quite irritating. I look for clues from others about this and then proceed from that. To have my own desires downplayed as unimportant is insulting to me. I have a male acquaintance that I finally had to be quite vocal about it. He finally got the message, but isn’t happy about it. I am not sure why he thinks every female should hug him. If we females hugged all the other males around, it would take forever.

When son was a baby I at times called him Cuddlebug. He nursed until around three years old. I know some are gasping. He was ready to give it up around two, but that was when asthma kicked in. When he was well he did not nurse, but when sick he did. Rather difficult on the mom’s body, but I think it helped him over the worst of the asthma bouts at that young age. Husband had asthma as a boy so he understood. Husband was only bottle fed since his mom was 44 when she had him. Also, i found out nursing was suppose to counteract the diabetes that has a grip on my lineage. So, of course, son was a Cuddlebug during that season of his life. Not long after that, my mother was suffering from really bad oesteoporosis. My son learned to give her a slight kind od hug at a distance so as to not crunch her. So I think that made him a little less enthusiastic about bear hugs.

I hate it when those men who wear an absurd amount of horrible-smelling after shave want to hug you and then you end up smelling like them all day.

I don’t know for sure, but mom looked like some kind of finch. I kept seeing her fly in and out of a bush next to where we were fishing. She left again, so I started snooping. I was careful not to touch the bush, and after some maneuvering I located the nest, got 2 quick pics, and then left it alone. Momma bird continued her in and out routine, so she had no idea. 🙂

When I was about 12, I would climb onto Mom’s lap (oddly, I don’t remember sitting in her lap when I was younger). She would joke that I was too big, and I would tell her I wasn’t. In later years, I realized that the fact that we were teasing each other about it is the reason either of us “allowed” it. (In other words, it was our excuse to continue, that we were actually joking.)

one of my daughters was one of those babies that climb up you instead of cuddle. I got so whenever she gave me a hug, I applauded and cheered. She learned to hug and cuddle and was the one that continued to hug into her teens.

Agh, blue haired ladies and their rancid perfume. I don’t think some of them can tell that it has gone bad. Ugh, men who think they smell good and it’s all I can do to keep from choking. 😦
I don’t like perfume of any kind, especially not when it lingers after a hug. Husband and I always have to run past the makeup/perfume sections of the department stores – and it’s always right at the entrance to the mall. We are both bothered by perfume/scents – they give us migraine headaches.

I have two agents who work with me, one wears Estee Lauders Pleasures the second one they came out with . It smells so good on her. It is very light and a little floral. It isn’t obnoxious but you can tell when she walks in a room.
The other wears the same perfume as I do, but to keep it even lighter she buys a big bottle of Eucerin lotions then a bottle of nice perfume lotion. She mixes 1/3 of the bottle of perfumed lotion into the non scented Eucerin. I can’t wait until the next bonus to try her method instead of mine.
