;-( My lawnmower broke. Can’t be fixed (economically). I’ve been looking around. It’ll be about $300.
😦 I told you some time ago that I lost three bushes on the side of my house this winter. I had to dig them out by the roots.
🙂 It was a big job, but It’s finished. It will look unbalanced because I have identical bushes on the west side, but I’m thinking of putting azaleas there.
🙂 We are so enjoying watching the Oriole, who has been hanging around this spring. It is the first time any have stayed around. They eat from both the hummingbird and oriole feeder close to our window.
🙂 Green, green, green. Summer happened overnight. We are now putting in flowers etc.
😦 Mosquitoes are unreal.
🙂 😦 Wedding last evening. It was 87 degrees when we left home. We had to go about an hour and a half away. It was 54 at the wedding area. We could not get there in time for the outdoor wedding, but were not sorry. So many froze.
🙂 My husband’s group played at an area nursing home earlier. The people really appreciated that. There were a few who were 100 years old and many approaching that. Music is such a blessing!
🙂 Saturday and my bronchitis is on its way out. Still some residual coughing and (loose) congestion, but at least I’m not coughing all the way from my toes up anymore. Painful.
🙂 Covered an arraignment in court yesterday. But they’re cracking down on cell phones in the courtroom now so the bailiff warned us if she even SAW a cell phone come out, the person would be tossed. And one guy was. “YOU” she barked at him. “OUT.”
Unfortunately, I’m used to using my cell as my mobile “book” as well — all my books are on the kindle app so I’m completely out of the habit of tossing a physical book in my bag for those days when I might have forced downtime to kill.
🙂 Having no book to read (and with the case I was waiting for not among the first called), I decided that maybe God wanted me to spend some time praying for the people and situations being paraded before me. Lots of people in lots of messes — a couple of them were remanded there on the spot, handcuffed and patted down before being sent back to the holding cell. Sobering.
One young woman showed up late (her defense attorney was anxiously scanning the courtroom every time the door opened, I’m sure just hoping against hope she’d arrive).
She eventually did, just in time (literally seconds after the judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest), sauntering in wearing rhinestone shoes and carrying what looked like a designer red handbag. The judge was not happy and only reluctantly pulled the warrant. “You will not be late to my courtroom,” the judge said, glaring at her. She told the young woman she also needed to do something about her “attitude,” that she could see it written all over her face and it wasn’t good.
🙂 The scene also brought to mind how, in eternity, Christ is our advocate. We all stand guilty before the judge, as the people did yesterday. But instead of a harried public defender flipping through case folders and trying to get the best deal possible for us, given our guilt, we have Him to absolve us completely on the spot.
🙂 Second anniversary of the day I de-lurked at WorldMagBlog.
🙂 I am gaining weight — much needed — four pounds since the beginning of this year, a modest amount, but I’m thankful for it, and have hope that I will be able to gain another ten or even fifteen pounds eventually.
🙂 Sun is shining today, and we’ve had much nicer temperatures lately (70’s and 80’s) after being stuck in the 30’s and 40’s so much for most of the spring, it seemed.
🙂 God is good. Always. He is faithful to give us everything we need, and much more. Praise the Lord!
There are no kids in our community, Michelle. There is a Mexican man who does my neighbor’s yard. I could do that, but it’s more complicated than that.
A little story, it relates to my main point-
Yesterday, the Lions celebrated the 55th anniversary of a guy in Lionism . He’s a retired ophthalmologist. He gave a little talk about his years as a Lion, and how it was more difficult for him getting around now because of his age.
He is two years younger than I am.
I can feel the years creeping up, but I’m not giving in to them.
Hence, the Y.
Hence, I do my own work as long as I can.
I need to keep moving because it keeps me moving. I don’t like doing it, but I’m thankful that I can.
Elvera wants me to keep at it too because I will likely be a real pain if I’m underfoot all the time.
Chas: very wise of you. My dad is 82 this year and he came to help us put siding on our house last summer. He was very tired at the end of each day, but got stronger as the week wore on. He decided he needed to keep physically active or he would be going down hill very fast.
My dad’s doctor told him last year that dad has to stop walking around in the mountains. Especially by himself. But he still does his yardwork and goes to the mountains with us when we can go. He still plays tennis and golf. He is eighty four.
My dad is 84, also, and though he doesn’t do as much work on the family farm as he once did (my brother does most of it), he still does some. He also golfs and rides bicycle regularly during the months when weather permits.
A rave: I mentioned a while back that, for some reason, Firefox stopped working on our computer. I learned that the problem wasn’t with Firefox, as it worked at the public library, but with our computer. So none of us who had bookmarked anything in that browser could access those bookmarks.
Until today. Firefox still doesn’t work, but I knew how frustrated my husband was that he couldn’t access the things he’d bookmarked (relating to car repair, etc.), so I dug around for a way to import bookmarks from Firefox to Chrome, the browser we use now.
It worked! So now there is this folder at the end of the list of bookmarks that says “Imported From Firefox”. Click on the folder, and all the old ones are there. Way cool!
But then I discovered that any new page I tried to bookmark on Chrome after the Firefox import folder was in place would not show up on the bookmark list, even though the computer said it was successfully bookmarked. I thought, if I got the page bookmarked, where is it???
Well, after some more digging around, I discovered I can click on “Bookmarks”, then “Bookmark manager”, then “Latest Headlines.” Don’t know why that works, but the “Latest Headlines” folder is where new bookmarks wind up now.
Fine with me! If I can bookmark anything, and get to any bookmark, I don’t care if I don’t know why — I’m just glad I can get there. 🙂
