  1. I have learned over the years of not having my own mother that certain women have filled that role for me. There are several of you here who while not old enough to be my mother have mothered me in one area or another. Thank You.

  2. I was blessed through many years of singleness to be able to love other people’s children, whether in Sunday school, counseling at camp, foster care, or living in inner-city Chicago with an open-door policy for neighborhood children.

But three years ago when I was contacted by a man whose photo showed a handsome man with two sweet-faced teenage daughters, the girls were part of the package that was attractive. And being their mom has been such a joy. I’m sure it wasn’t always easy for them to have a stranger move in, nor always easy for me to know how to give them enough space but still be there in a meaningful way . . . but it has truly been sweet.

And it has been sweet, as well, to have parents again after nearly a decade without my mom (now almost 11 years) and almost three decades (30 years next month) without my dad.

  3. Thank you for the nice Mother’s Day greetings, AJ.

I have nothing profound to say. I am simply grateful for the blessed privilege to be a mother, and am thankful that my mother and mother-in-love are still with me here on earth.

I thank God, also, for the spiritual mothers with whom He has blessed me, some of whom have gone home to heaven, and others remaining here who continue to bless me with their wisdom from the Lord. That includes some dear ladies right at this site.

    Thank you kindly.

  4. Blessings to you all.

I went into motherhood resigned and while it did turn out to be harder and more disruptive to my life than even I imagined, it’s also been the most satisfying, exasperating, stretching, soul-filling, joyous, fun, maddening, complicated and extraordinary thing I’ve ever done.

And now we have four terrific kids we raised ourselves! How fun is that? 🙂

  5. My gravatar is the card I made for my mother-in-law, using the goldfinch photo printed out on canvas paper. Inside is another, smaller photo of the bird in a different posture and a stamped greeting.

  6. Such sweet thoughts from all! I am blessed to be among the group here. This blog family is one of those over and above anything we could ask or think blessings.

In Sunday School we melted crayons in muffin papers on my griddle set on warm.. Then the children painted glass jars with the melted colors for vases. I had purchased several colors of minature roses and picked some white old fashioned super sweet smelling yard roses and ground orchids. Another teacher brought in honeysucckles. The children made lovely crestions. I had some roses left over so I put them in the sample vase I had made and gave them to my brother to put on our mother’s grave today. We got together for lunch to celebrate his birthday (the 7th). Now I am at home holding my cat baby, Bosley.

This week I went to Chick-fil-A and a nice young Hispanic lady served me. I had a coupon for a free sandwich and got a kid size icecream cone with it. She asked didn’t I want a drink with it and I told her my mother was always saying I needed to drink more with my food. She apologized thinking she had offended me, but I really appreciated her caring spirit and thought it sweet that she did that during Mothers Day week.

  7. I put this on Rants & Raves before seeing this thread…

” 🙂 Wishing a Very Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers here. God bless you all!”

    On Facebook, I posted this…

” ❤ On Mother's Day, & every day, I am so very grateful to God for the privilege & blessing of being mother to my two wonderful daughters, Emily & Chrissy, & being "Mimi" to my adorable & sweet grandson, Forrest. (And of course, I am so grateful to be wife to my hubby, Leon.) ❤

    " ❤ I love my family! ❤ "

And just so ya know, I love all of my Wandering Views family, too. 🙂

(Now let's see if the hearts come out right.)

  8. blessed to be wished a Happy Mother’s Day by the son I gave up to adoption 45 years ago, on Facebook. God has allowed me to know him and my two sons live close together and are very good and supportive friends. My son’s new wife now tags me in the family pictures that she posts. I am honored.

  11. I certainly am feeling your friend’s pain Karen….we have about 6 inches of wet heavy stuff right now and are supposed to have 5-8 more inches by morning…love the moisture…just would prefer it in smaller doses of rain and not snow! 🙂

  12. How close are you to Denver, nancyjill? Just had a phone call tonight from an old couple who moved to the Denver suburbs (where all their kids and grandkids and great-grandkids are).

  13. I am not quite an hour south of Denver…I live on the northern edge of the county line….actually I live just off of County Line Rd which is what they call the Palmer Divide….we seem to get the 12 if there is a prediction of 6-12 inches! 🙂

  14. Got it — she said they’d had snow, so I figured you weren’t that far apart. I was happy to hear they already signed up to take the Denver Post, a sister paper of ours. 🙂
