Good Morning!
Today’s header photo is a couple of people you already know, plus their very nice spouses, and some of their children and grandchildren. 🙂
We had a nice lady take some photos after we’d had a nice lunch, and chance to talk face to face. My family enjoyed it very much.
Thanks again to you and your husband for lunch Linda, that was very kind. 🙂

Good morning! Good evening to Jo.
When do you make your summer vacation plans? We are waiting to see if son gets a summer job and that will be a factor for us.

The hollyhocks were up still with my first post. Now it’s great to see our “folks.” AJ’ s family on the right, Linda and husband with grandchildren seated and children’s parents standing. Did I guess right? Looks like a really nice group of people to know as friends and blog family.

Just checking in from the Deep South. Under the heading of “some people just can’t catch a break”, a friend’s brother who just got out of an abusive marriage with the shirt on his back ( yeah, dirty little secret that sometimes the crazy women are the abusers) just got back into a house he owned before the marriage. I had given him some furniture and so did others. His house flooded last night. The new hardwood floors buckled and he lost a whole lot again. He and his son evacuated to his parents and will assess the damage today.
One of our agents and the sales manager from our new homes division live on the river, They had six ft of water and got out with the baby pictures. She posted on facebook about watching their refrigerator float down the river and the red ants getting under their clothes as they swam out.
Me? I am fine. I didn’t sleep last night with the thunder and lightening and the Boy Dog who tried to crawl underneath me most of the night, but I haven’t lost anything else.

Good morning, Janice! I’m feeling much better today–Yay!!!
We are in the process of making our summer plans. Kids camps have been booked for awhile, but we’re still trying to decide what to do for our family vacation. We thought about going to San Diego, but it would cost us as much as going back to the Cayman’s (which we all loved), so then we thought we’d do that. Then, eldest child piped up that she’d prefer going to Hopetown, Bahamas, where she went a couple of summers ago with my brother and his family, so now we’re looking into that! Hopefully, we’ll have it all settled within a week.
Aj: Thanks for the Willie Nelson video. It reminded me of another Texas singer-songwriter, Jerry Jeff Walker. When I was in my senior year of high school, a large group of girls went to a Jerry Jeff Walker concert in Leukenbach, Texas. We were in the front, close to the stage, when all of a sudden Jerry Jeff invited us up on stage to sing London Homesick Blues with him. What a fun memory that is! I will soon be reunited with the gang at my 25th high school reunion this May.

Good morning, Aj & Kim.
Kim: So sorry to hear about the devastating loss of your friend. My house burned to the ground on Christmas Eve when I was twelve and I remember how disconcerting it can be to lose everything you owned… I’ll be praying for him.

Glad to hear of your recovery, Annms. Those bugs that send a person to the bathroom seem most violent of all. Good thing is that usually once they have had their way then they don’t continue to linger like a cold can with its cough.
When things happen like that, Kim, the Blam, Blam, Blam of losses, it seems testing is going on like with Job. I hope your friend has a budding faith that will blossom through these tribulations.

So sad to hear of the losses in your neck of the woods Kim…this year of weather has been unsettling to so many…we awakened to a couple of inches of fresh snow this morning….and 20 degrees out there!
Today is husband’s birthday…we’ll meet up for lunch…so blessed to have him in my life 🙂
No summer vacation plans….I feel as though I’m always on vacation living here..we will probably take some weekend hikes…family coming in town in July for Paul’s Hardrock 100 ultra….

We’re waiting on our daughter, too, and I suppose she’s a prayer request, though she’s also a delightful twenty-something getting ready to launch on her own.
She said the other night, “This is so frustrating! I just want to have fun my final quarter and I have to make all these hard decisions about the rest of my life!”
(Mother tries not to smile, and wonders what she can say that will not be misconstrued . . . )
“You’re right on track. Make the decisions you can and wait for the rest to unfold.”
“But I don’t even know where I’m going to live unless I get this job. I was hoping it would be a sort of anchor, and then I could arrangements after that.”
“When will you know about the job?” (Are you all recognizing the voice of reason, or do I need to include tags?)
“Well, I haven’t applied for it yet.”
(Mother tries HARD not to laugh or get ratcheted up emotionally with her)
“Why don’t you apply for it and see what happens?” (Am I still sounding like the voice of reason to you? Husband now looks over his glasses at me with that warning look)
“Maybe I’ll do that tonight. What’s a cover letter?”
I hand the phone over to Mr. Business and he walks her through it.
I then run upstairs to find yet another option for her anatomy class dilemma. (Note: the local JC had room for her in its class, which would have solved the immediate what do I do with myself problem, however, they wouldn’t let her take only one class. She had to sign up for a full load so she said no. Mom is thinking, how hard would it have been to pad the course list with PE classes, art and music? But I wasn’t asked . . . )
Just before a happier girl rings off, I come down with another option that throws everything and all the relatives into a potentially delightful dizzy: UCLA Extension has what she needs–one night of anatomy class, one night of human cadaver lab (oh, the thrills! The joy! The head shaking at our house).
The relatives–who will need to provide a room two nights a week–are delighted! A free house sitter for the whole summer?!
My daughter: “Have I scored enough points with the relatives yet? One of them has a swimming pool for the whole summer!”
Still waiting on the job (which she has now applied for), but God is good, she’s in his hands, knows it and is breathing a tad bit easier. It’s the excitement of that cadaver . . . 🙂

Kim, that’s awful about your friend/client and his house. 😦 And how sad to see your refrigerator floating away. 😉 I love my refrigerator, after almost 2 years it’s still the newest appliance I own (and may ever own!).
We’re still ramping up for what is supposed to be a short heatwave out here, tomorrow should be the peak (about 100 degrees). I think it got to 91 or so yesterday. Too hot. But I did sit out in the patio with my Bible for a while late yesterday, it was very calming, just me and the squirrels.
But boy my trees are big and overgrown. 😦 They’re beautiful but I’ll need to get them trimmed soon. They’re massive.

Oy! More problems with the move. U-Haul won’t have a truck available. (Why am I surprised? I know why they have the cheapest.) They said we could have a smaller truck for a discount, but we have to wait until the afternoon. Don’t they realize when we order a do-it-yourself truck we have other people helping us who have their schedules as well?
Then the termite inspection had bad news. Oh well. We can still close on Friday.

Sorry to hear of the difficulties, Peter. We will probably need a u-haul or some form of moving situation for things that need to go to son. Does some kind of hitch need to be installed to do u-haul? Could a van rental work? Someone suggested shipping through a moving van company that was headed in son’s direction. Does anyone here have experience or thoughts on this?

Every time I move it’s a disaster, it gets worse every time.
So Kim’s area is flooding and my area (well, just to the east of us) is burning up in a wildfire.
And it’s hot. As in it’s hotter at the beach than it is inland, which is very strange. 90s here today. With brown air.

Hey, wait a minute, a reunion and I’m not invited? Region-ism!
Misten had herself some great fun this morning. (I sent Donna photos.) My husband was about to put some drops in my ears, our younger daughter had just returned home from an errand, and Misten was outside barking. Our girl excitedly told us to come see what Misten was barking at. We looked out our library window, and in the field behind us galloped two horses. (It’s an unfenced field that is planted in crops each year.) There was a Jeep behind them, and a woman got out of it several times and tried to catch the horses, but they kept running away when she got close, and then she’d get in the Jeep and follow them some more. At one point she even got out a rope and tried a lasso, with no success. Misten kept offering her services, but was ignored.
Last we saw, the horses were cantering back the way they came, the Jeep driving behind them, and Misten in the corner of the yard barking and seeing if she might be able to scale the fence even without a snow bank for a ramp. (She’s nine-and-a-half today. At two, she might have been able to, but it never occurred to her to try. Now, she can’t. And she really, really didn’t want to come back when we called her, though she finally did.) We thought she’d come inside and crash from all her exercise and excitement, running up and down the fence and barking, but instead she kept pacing. She hadn’t been hired for the job, and she just knew she could do it! I imagine tonight she’ll dream that she is herding horses, and they are obeying her every direction flawlessly. (I’m actually not sure whether she has ever seen horses before.)

Cheryl, that story reminds me of the time my husband was driving our Firebird down a major highway when he stopped and picked up a cowboy who had somehow lost his horse which was now running down the road. He drove along side the horse with the cowboy hanging out the window! They caught the horse 🙂
My husband belongs to a Christian Gamewarden support group online and they have an annual get together down in Tennessee. We’ve never been, but it’s in future plans 🙂
Our summer holidays will be spent at our place, since, like Nancyjill, we feel like we’re on holidays living here 🙂

We don’t usually go away on vacations. We have twice – once when Emily was two & Chrissy was in utero, & one in October of 2003. Usually when Lee had time off we’d just hang around here, & he’d work on some projects he wanted to get done, & we’d do some fun stuff a few times through the week. Now, with his route, he can’t afford to take any time off.
BTW, Lee is hoping to somehow be able to sell his route sometime in the near future, & get a job.
I’m still praying for God to do a miracle for my husband – to lead him to a new opportunity, & to work out the matter & timing of selling his route. I realize that what I’m asking wouldn’t really fit the definition of a real miracle, but for a 59-year old man to get a good, well-paying job in this economy, & be able to actually get a buyer for his route & not lose money on it, & the timing for all that to work together, seem almost impossible to our human minds, so to us it would be a miracle.
Along with that, I’m praying for the inner work in each of us that God wants to do through these trials. Lee gets so down & discouraged, more than I’ve ever seen him before.

The other night, I posted that over the weekend, whenever I refreshed the News/Politics thread, no comments were shown, but I saw them when I was using Emily’s laptop.
The next day, back on my own computer again, I realized that I still had the thread from last Friday open on that tab, & there had indeed been no comments on that day. Silly me.
BTW, I was not complaining when I said that we don’t go away on vacations. I am a homebody, quite content to hang out at home.

I got to spend the day at the beach interviewing people about the heat wave. I must have just missed my pastor and his wife, they posted a duo “selfie” on FB of him on his bike and her standing in front at exactly the same beach where I’d gone.
It wasn’t actually too bad at the beach, 78 degrees or so. But the air is brown from the fire inland.
The heat wave is supposed to break around the weekend but it’ll feel slow with another couple days to get through. My house is quite toasty, I opened up the windows but it’s mostly hot air coming in. Have to keep the fan running all night again tonight.
