Our Daily Thread 4-28-14

Good Morning!

On this day in 1635 Virginia Governor John Harvey was accused of treason and removed from office.

In 1686 the first volume of Isaac Newton’s “Principia Mathamatic” was published.

In 1788 Maryland became the seventh state to ratify the U.S. constitution.

In 1930 the first organized night baseball game was played in Independence, Kansas.

In 1967 Muhammad Ali refused induction into the U.S. Army and was stripped of boxing title.

And in 1974 the last Americans were evacuated from Saigon.

  1. We are at Myrtle Beach (really Surfside, Jillanne). We got here Friday afternoon and did all the traditional things. Now, according to tradition, I am making my escape and Elvera’s two sisters and two (sister’s daughter & friend) are coming to stay till Friday.
    So, I’m on my way.

    🙂

Sounds like a beautiful opportunity to meander about Brook green Gardens to me Chas!! Drink in the beauty and solitude 🙂

  4. Beautiful garden, wouldn’t that be nice to have in your backyard? With a duck or two floating around?

I had a very restful weekend which I needed. So now it’s on to Monday and another week of fun, I’m sure. 😉

  5. Someone posted my story (in which I interviewed Jon Katz) on his FB page and he commented that it was a good interview & that I was a ‘smart reporter’ (although he noted that he wasn’t among the first who voiced opposition to the mayor’s proposed horse carriage ban in nyc as I stated in my story, so I got that wrong I guess — either that or he’s being too modest). Still, fun to interview him.

  6. Also had a very nice email from him yesterday thanking me for interviewing him for the piece.

Now it’s back to trying to get something out of the arson investigators. …

  7. NancyJill,

If you like those, you’ll love some of the others I took. I managed to trim the number down to 430 pics or so. 😯

They had so many different orchids that I took about 75 of those. 🙂

  8. I had a nice drive home, as drives go.
Weather was nice and I handled the construction sites ok.
I called Elvera to tell her that I arrived, and knew as soon as she opened her phone that her sisters were there by the racket they were making.
Five women and they can carry on three conversations at once.

    😆

They’ll have a wild time by their standards.
    Me? I’ll get along.
The grass kept growing while I was gone.

When I initially opened the blog, I thought it was a Brookgreen Gardens photo, But I didn’t see the muses.

  9. This is a male goldfinch, with most of his summer feather back. (They turn dull over winter, but the return to bright colors takes a couple of months of gradual change.)

  10. Bosley is happy, happy, happy to be back home. Big major purrs fill my ears. She has some spots that will need to grow fur again, and her coat is not as sleek and shiny as it was. So far she does seem a little calmer, but more time may show the wild kitten mode again. So glad to see her again.

  11. AJ, your cat would like the fish.

I was thinking of getting a little aquarium, they’re supposed to be a calming influence, but then remembered, ‘Oh. Wait a minute. I can’t do that. I have a cat.’

  12. Aquariums have covers on them. And cats are outdoors.

I went shopping today. You may recall the last time I went shopping, a couple of years ago. That was when I shoplifted. I am happy to report that the store has addressed that problem. In case you are wondering what happened, I did not realize you had to pay for the meds when you pick them up. I found out later that evening when talking with husband. He stopped by and remedied the situation next day and they said it was a common problem. Now they put the meds in a little clear plastic bag so when you go past the cashier, she can stop you if you don’t know or forget. Then they keep the bag and run it through again. Isn’t that neat? Of course, it is possible that all pharmacies do that and I don’t know, but I thought it very helpful.

  13. Smiling, thinking of Janice’s reunion with Miss Bosley. 🙂

Weird thing: All weekend, whenever I refreshed the tab that had the News/Politics thread on it, there were no comments. I thought it a bit strange that no one commented all weekend.

Then this evening, on Emily’s laptop (while babysitting a currently-sleeping Forrest), I checked to see if anyone had commented last night. To my surprise, I found that there were comments on that thread from Saturday & Sunday.

    Very strange.

  14. I wondered who would notice that in addition to offering free lodging to mice, we also entertain fish indoors. But not for long. They are all headed out to the pond or the stock tanks. Everything has a purpose and theirs is to make certain we have no mosquitoes around. But if you recall, we did have a frog and a turtle and a salamander in the house in the past.
