Today is Tommy Cash’s birthday.

This one was sent to me by one of you. Not so much for the music, but to share with us a view of their town. The video was filmed in the area near where they live. So sit back, and enjoy the scenery, maybe see if you can guess where it is. I’ll leave it to the person who sent it to give you what details they’d like to share. 🙂

  1. hmmmm…. the header photo looks remarkedly like yesterdays. Maybe I am checking in too early.
Saturday evening here, but had some profitable time at school. I enjoy going in when it is quiet and getting organized for the term

I liked the girls, what I call ordinary pretty. Not made up to be glamorous, but just ordinary pretty.

  3. Strange homicide case down in Spartanburg. The Times-News reports that a Spartanburg woman was sentenced to 20 years for killing her infant daughter.
She gave her six week old daughter her breast milk. turns out the lady was taking MS-Contin which resulted in the baby getting an overdose of morphine.

A complicated case in which she didn’t tell the doctors she was pregnant. A case of neglect and stupidity in my opinion.

  4. Beautiful flowers, Kim. We grow those in several shades in our ffont yard and even have a native one. 🙂

They like acidic soil like what is found under pine trees.

  5. I am trying to make my soil in a couple of raised beds, acidic. My thought was the pine trees but when tested, that soil is just as alkaline as the rest around here. Books tell me it is about the rock that breaks down and the amount of humus. I guess I will just go put some more banana peels and coffee on them.

  7. Pretty flowers! I love those colors — I have big bougainvillea bushes in the front and back yards that turn bright like that periodically throughout the year. The one in the back actually originates in the yard that is behind my back fence and has spilled over onto my side. 🙂

  8. What a beautiful sight this morning…azaleas! We had those in Myrtle Beach…yours are a most delightful color Kim!
So if you throw banana peels and coffee into your soil it’s supposed to make it a richer soil? I need to start some raised beds around here if the weather ever changes from winter to something more suitable for growing stuff 🙂

  9. I always throw the coffee grounds onto the azalea or dogwoods.
Those are southern azaleas. We had azaleas around or house in Annandale. The flowers weren’t nearly that big. But they were pretty. I tried transplanting a Charleston azalea up there, but it didn’t grow.
I haven’t had much luck with azaleas here.

  11. The movie is of a pretty little Midwestern town. We have similar picturesque little towns here, but unless HRW sent the link, I’m guessing it is in the States, as Saskatchewan would be more flat. Also, the foliage looks like it is a bit further south than here.

I think that plane is not in the Ocean.
At the beginning, a man who is familiar with the US anti-submarine capabilities the US developed during the Cold War said, “If it’s in the ocean, they will find it.”
A problem with that is that we have not been in charge of the search effort.

  14. Best Customer Service Award goes to JJill. I went shopping there last Saturday. Wednesday night I discovered a new catalog in my mail. It was offering 30% of full price merchandise starting April 1st. I called customer service, told the lady she may not be able to help me and that was OK. I told her I had been to the store Saturday and now got a catalog with 30% off. I explained that I didn’t live near the store and asked if she would adjust my balance. Because I put it on my JJill card and still had my receipt she was able to turn in a request to have my balance adjusted. I just received an email with a refund receipt. I just got a 30% refund!

  15. Kim, that happened once to me some years ago — I’d bought several items at Eddie Bauer and within days they announced a flat 30% (or similar amount) off everything in the store. Groan.

I hadn’t even taken the tags off the things I’d bought so I took them back in (the store was on the way to and very close to my office). If they said they couldn’t apply the sale price I was going to simply return everything and start over, buying the items at the lower price. But they said no problem, they simply rescanned everything I had bought at the lower price, refunded the original full prices I’d paid, and I was on my way, a happy customer. Save a lot of money.

  16. Phoscuro (I like that combo name), most of Saskatchewan is NOT flat. I am surrounded by hills and our vegetation here is thick and lush (well not right now, but soon…) Down south we had amazing buttes and deep coulees in the badlands and in the southwest there is the Cypress Hills. The flattest part is between Regina and Moose Jaw along the TransCanada highway, so that’s what everyone thinks of when they think of Saskatchewan. When we have visitors from out of province, they are all amazed that it’s not just flat here. 🙂 (Hope I didn’t sound too defensive there – pet peeve) 🙂

” … true sanctification is all about growing in humility, dependence, and gratitude. Joy blossoms in our hearts not as we try harder and harder to grow, but as we see more clearly the depths of our sin and understand more fully our utter helplessness. Only then will we take our eyes off ourselves and look to Christ for all that we need in life and in death. Only then will we truly cherish our Savior and believe that we need him every minute of every day, and that without him we can do nothing (John 15:5).”

  22. Container gardens? Most of mine is container gardening. Raised beds, in containers. You can decide who comes and goes in the soil. Excellent choice.

  24. Our containers are rectangles or squares of wood with wire mesh underneath to keep out the rodents but to let in the worms. They are high enough that I can reach them without crawling around on the ground, useful at my advanced age. We found that putting in a lot of shredded newspaper, manure, dirt, and then compost was quite effective. The worms really seem to like the newspaper (though we stay away from colors). Lots of carrots, peas, broccoli, beans, peppers, tomatoes, etc. I have never been good at lettuce, perhaps because I don’t like lettuce. The black berries take over but that is good as I love blackberries. I do try to confine them to their box though. It makes it much easier to water and weed and to cover when needed, for keeping out cats and chickens and flea beetles.

  25. I didn’t think about the worms. I’m using old plastic storage boxes we had left over from when we had to store all our stuff after the tornado. Worms won’t be able to get in. Stupid question; do I need worms?

    Like

  26. Do you have holes punched in the bottom to let drainage happen? You don’t want water sitting in the bottom of the tubs. If there are drain holes, there will probably be worms. Worms are very good for aerating the soil and fertilizing it. They are good at breaking down the composting material into plant useable nutrients. And they are good indicators that your soil is working as it should. You can dig some up and toss them in. They like to be able to go down deep if it gets too hot or dry for them, but if you are watering your garden, it should be fine. As long as the water is not standing, so they drown.

  29. Morning, all. Good evening, Jo.

We’re trying a new church this morning. Eldest daughter (L.) has been with a friend of hers and wants us to check it out. I don’t really care for our home church, so am looking forward to it. I went to a PCA church last weekend, but they had a quote from Bill Gothard on their program, which sent up a red flag for me. It reminded me of the OPC church I grew up in, which wasn’t a good thing. I won’t be going back…

  33. I hear you Annms. I’ve been in some of those churches through the years and that’s exactly what it takes me back to! There’s just a real disconnect in that for me. Like, where am I again??

Sorry the OPC wasn’t a good growing-up experience for you. Some of the really small reformed churches, depending on the elders and influences, can be a bit fringe and overly strict I’m afraid (I was in a small OPC church that was wonderful. But when our beloved pastor retired and others began to be more in control, it became very ingrown and almost chilly — any corporate acknowledgement of Christmas was one of the first things to go — it went south pretty fast for me).

The OPC church I’m in now is incredible. Large for an OPC (about 300 which I think helps) but not too large. Faithful to preach the law and gospel every week with an overall ambiance of light and joy and freedom in Christ. I feel blessed considering how hard it can be to find a faithful church sometimes.

  34. Oh yeah, and the music’s not loud. 🙂 We have a ‘quiet’ ensemble of various instruments for corporate singing that doesn’t ever drown out the congregation’s voices.

Stayed long at church due to a potluck (following SS) honoring an older couple who are moving to Colorado where their kids, grandkids & great-grandkids mostly are.

An amazing couple, we’ll miss them so much. But they sold their house for a near fortune (or so it appeared to me — they’ve lived in a beach city for many decades; housing prices have skyrocketed there in that time) and they’ve found what sounds like a beautiful house in Colorado, 4 bedrooms, a huge kitchen with all new appliances and an island (she’s a good cook and they like to have company, so the bedrooms will likely be filled a lot).

Because she married “late” (30s, and 50+ years ago that was late) she’s always had a heart for single women in the church and she’s been a very good encouragement to me through the years.

I had a large container that I could wrap in towels and keep in the ice chest(no ice) to keep it at the right temp for the number of required hours. I was always amazed that it worked. Glad the cottage cheese turned out. Was it in the lumps or curds or was it smooth like ricotta?

They’re so young at heart (she’s in her 80s, he’s 92, a Marine) and have been a mainstay for our church ministries, they’re both tireless and still full of energy.
