What’s interesting in the news today?

1. Another consequence of the Obama admins decision to rescind propaganda rules. Without the first action, he couldn’t get away with this. Pravda, it’s not just a Russian thing anymore.

From RedState  “The Obama Administration’s Federal Communication Commission (FCC) is poised to place government monitors in newsrooms across the country in an absurdly draconian attempt to intimidate and control the media.

Before you dismiss this assertion as utterly preposterous (we all know how that turned out when the Tea Party complained that it was being targeted by the IRS), this bombshell of an accusation comes from an actual FCC Commissioner.”

“Last May the FCC proposed an initiative to thrust the federal government into newsrooms across the country. With its “Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs,” or CIN, the agency plans to send researchers to grill reporters, editors and station owners about how they decide which stories to run. A field test in Columbia, S.C., is scheduled to begin this spring.

The purpose of the CIN, according to the FCC, is to ferret out information from television and radio broadcasters about “the process by which stories are selected” and how often stations cover “critical information needs,” along with “perceived station bias” and “perceived responsiveness to underserved populations.”

In fact, the FCC is now expanding the bounds of regulatory powers to include newspapers, which it has absolutely no authority over, in its new government monitoring program.”

2. Bullying a bunch of Quakers and burning down their church for using non-union labor? Talk about low…..

From WFB  “The federal government on Tuesday indicted multiple union members for burning down a Quaker church in 2012.

Ten members of a Philadelphia ironworkers union face charges of arson and racketeering in connection with a fire against the church, which was employing non-union workers.

“Ironworkers Local 401 [was charged] with allegedly participating in a conspiracy to commit criminal acts of extortion, arson, destruction of property, and assault in order to force construction contractors to hire union ironworkers,” the FBI said in a press release. “Specifically, the indictment charges RICO conspiracy, violent crime in aid of racketeering, three counts of arson, two counts of use of fire to commit a felony, and conspiracy to commit arson. Eight of the 10 individuals named in the indictment are charged with conspiring to use Ironworkers Local 401 as an enterprise to commit criminal acts.”

3. He did it again. This time Battleground Texas (ACORN) and the Wendy Davis for Gov. campaign. Forging voter signatures, illegal copying and storing voter contact info, which is forbidden by law. Same playbook Obama and OFA use.

Vote fraud is alive and well, and much of it happens way before the voting booth.

4. Is Common Core crashing and burning? Let’s hope so. 🙂

From Politico  “The nation’s largest teachers union is pulling back on its once-enthusiastic support of the Common Core academic standards, labeling their rollout “completely botched.”

National Education Association President Dennis Van Roekel said he still believes the standards can improve education. But he said they will not succeed without a major “course correction” — including possibly rewriting some of the standards and revising the related tests with teacher input.

“In far too many states, implementation has been completely botched,” Van Roekel wrote in a letter Wednesday afternoon to his organization’s more than 3 million members.”

  1. IBNO, I don’t understand your WFTD.
    ???

#1. This is not trivial. It is the first step the Gestapo takes. Na, acutally, it’s the second. The first is when they start selecting which organizations get government tax breaks. That is, unions and others who support the entrinched power.

I said before, I’m glad that I lived in the epoch when the uS was a great, and free nation.
Connect this sort of thing with my post on the daily thread about the ability to locate your phone.
Can you imagine where this is headed.
    1984 or Brave New World?

  2. According to an analyst on FoxNews, one of the things that disturbs them is the lack of coverage on Global Climate Change.
This climate change is a handle they are going to use to control your life.

  3. Chas,

Watch the vote fraud video. That was made by Project Veritas and James O’Keefe. This is about the 3rd or 4th video from him, all exposing how Democrats are fraudulently registering and filling out voter forms. This one also shows them committing numerous violations of Texas and US voter laws. It’s how Obama won twice and is now the official playbook of Dems everywhere. Which is exactly why the mainstream sources don’t report it.

    O’Keefers!

    I like it. 🙂 IBNO.

  4. As I’ve said for years, a weak fourth estate is dangerous for liberty and freedom. I’m shocked every paper and news hour isn’t in arms over this.

Indeed, I’ve been depressed all morning about it.

WHY are the lap fogs so docile?

  5. Weak is an understatement. They’re complicit in this as well. They’re actively participating as the propaganda wing of the DNC.

    http://allenbwest.com/2014/02/progressives-calling-totalitarian-control-irs/

“I woke this morning to a very disturbing editorial from the New York Sun. It began with this quote from a February 19th editorial from liberal progressive newspaper of record, the New York Times:

-Secret money has become the scourge of the political system and needs to be eliminated regardless of the inconvenience to nonprofit groups, whatever their ideology. Republicans have blocked Congress from dealing with the problem, so now it is up to the I.R.S. to do its job.”-

Several weeks ago, we shared the words of NY Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer when he spoke before the George Soros-funded Center for American Progress calling for a “redoubling of efforts by the IRS and government agencies” to attack funding for conservative groups.

Now we see the semi-official mouthpiece of the Obama administration, the New York Times, falling in lockstep (or should we say goose step). The Times is calling for President Obama and the IRS to bypass the GOP-controlled House of Representatives because it presents an obstacle to their totalitarian design of fundamentally transforming America.”

  6. Yesterday Ricky and Rob questioned my statement that raising the minimum wage rarely has an effect on unemployment. Several years ago, economists predicted a rise in unemployment when minimum wage rose by more than a $1.50. Nothing happened.

Economist are beginning to question traditional assumptions about minimum wage.

The weight of that evidence points to little or no employment
response to modest increases in the minimum wage.

    4. I like my teacher’s union but like many unions change scares them. Their members are like any other member of society in that they prefer to stick to the same old instead of something new. I confess after ten years of teaching the same grade and with a superbly organized filing system, I might be reluctant to endure a massive curriculum change. Thus teacher’s unions are asking to slow implementation essentially to manage or lessen workloads.

When I started teaching, the gov’t instituted a massive curriculum change that seems to be similar to the common core in the US. I was extremely grateful for the clear cut guidelines but my older colleagues were upset because of the additional workload as their units and lessons needed to be changed. I suspect the same is happening here.

  8. HRW, If raising the minimum wage doesn’t increase unemployment, why not raise it to $250 an hour? Milton Friedman deals with this issue well in Free to Choose. It is really very simple. If the minimum wage is raised to $10.00 an hour, employers are not going to hire (or continue to employ) those workers who can only produce $8.00 and $9.00 an hour of value.

  9. Note my link stated moderate raises to the minimum wage. If minimum wage had increase at the rate of increased productivity minimum wage would be around $20 an hour. You see workers are already producing more than $10/hr of value as soaring stock prices and profits indicate.

And even if wages had followed the rate of inflation from the 60s it would be in the mid-teens.Comparing minimum wage over time in 1996 dollars, min. wage was $7.20 in 1969 and $4.87 now. There’s room for raising the wage. Even the Economist suggested raising the minimum wage would not have an effect on employment as this did not happen in the UK. The Economist also stated that raising the minimum wage would be a cost-free way for the US to stimulate the economy as increased wages for the poor would increase spending as they pry some money out of the rich who are not investing their money nor paying taxes. An interesting and pragmatic perspective from a magazine that’s usually to the right of the WSJ.

  10. HRW, If you ever go into business, you will discover that not all potential employees can or will produce $10 an hour worth of goods or services. If you pay them that rate, you will likely go bankrupt. Then your other employees will also lose their jobs.

Who determines what is a “moderate” increase in the minimum wage? A big increase will cause great inflation and a sharp rise in unemployment. A small increase would cause a small amount of inflation and a small increase in unemployment- with youth as the primary victims.
