Prayer Requests 1-31-14

Who would like to share a request or praise with us today?

Psalm 11

¹In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?

For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.

If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

  1. Please pray for my friend, J. She had an abdominal ultrasound this week and two spots were discovered on her liver. One is most likely benign but the other doesn’t look so good. She is a semi-practicing Catholic, believes in God, but also pursues anything and everything that might help her control her life. She has many believers in her circle of friends. When she got the results of her tests, she was a mess. She told me in tears “I can’t leave my kids!” I’ve told her that hubby and I are praying for her and that I would ask my circle of believing friends to pray for her as well. The most important request is that she come to a believing faith in Christ – whether through healing, through God taking her through the process of healing, or the realization that she is heading somewhere fast and needs to get her heart right with God. Thank you.

  2. Heavenly Father,

It’s the end of a harrowing week for some in Georgia who were stranded on the highways. Some are still tryng to retrieve their cars. So many people, as usual, are looking to blame someone and the Governor has said “The buck stops here,” Please help him and other leaders like the Atlanta mayor to be given grace and not be hounded over this. I pray that all cars can be retrieved without too much trouble or delay.

Thank You , Abba, for watching over J who has a spot on her liver. May this time of trial draw her close to You through all the attention she receives from believing friends. Whatever it takes, Lord, to save her soul, to push her through the door of belief. ..let it happen. Bless her with good healthcare and compassionate doctors and medical staff. I ask that You build up her faith and help her each time she is anxious to cast her csres upon you.

Lord, I pray over the situation that AJ is encountering with his mail order meds/billing. I pray You would give him understanding, wisdom, patience and the proper channels for correction of the situation. Help his blood pressure to not rise as he considers all the ways that You have to help him in this trouble. May he be witness to Your creativity in problem solving so that his faith can be increased. You make all things work for good for those who love You and are called by Yoj.

Please help 6 Arrows and her husband to work on a new plan for meeting their children’s dietary needs. Show them the best and help them to see their individual roles in Your plan.

Thank You for the many blessings You have prepared to release today. May You be praised continuosly through a chorus of thank offerings all day long from varios spots on the globe.

    In Jesus’name, Amen

I just want to make one more comment on the meal issue. I don’t believe every meal has to be a big deal or always eaten together. Breakfasts in our home was usually very casual except for one or two days of the week, when something more special might be cooked. When the children were old enough, they could get the cereal or fix toast or whatever was available. Children can do this at quite a young age.

Lunches can be quite casual as well, although it is easy to do soup and sandwiches for several. I do think at least one meal should be eaten together as a family, whenever possible. It would, ideally, be a relaxed time to converse with each other.

My husband worked shift work for most of his working days, so we had to adjust for that, as well as school and church activities. Most families have a lot of adjusting to do. There are different stages of life. All of that has to be taken into consideration.

I also didn’t want to leave the impression that children (or adult) preferences should not be taken into account. I may serve different food when I have grandchildren here, for example. I make pea soup for my husband, because it is something he really likes. I don’t, so on those days I make myself something else. It is good frozen, portion-size for his lunch, too.

I guess it all boils down to loving others and treating them as you would want to be treated, with the added consideration of what you want to teach your children for the best in their future.

  5. One more comment on the meal issue, which I was thinking someone else would mention, but I didn’t see suggested. I think it is a good idea to have the meal/food conversations at times other than at the meal. You don’t want mealtime to end up being dreaded and unpleasant because of arguments. If you could pick another time to discuss the issues and come to reasonable agreements, then at the meal, itself, worse case would be reminding someone of what they’d previously agreed to. It’s helpful if the discussion takes the form of each person identifying what they expect and what they think is expected of them and you can merge all those expectations.

  6. Good idea, Linda, discussing it at a neutral time and place, rather than right at the table in the heat of the moment.

And thanks again for your input, Kathaleena. More wise words. 😉 I appreciate them all.

  7. Thanks for the prayers for J. Today she said she was worried about going to hell – she was joking but I know there is definitely an underlying concern. I told her she could know she was going to heaven, but then, of course, the phone rang, someone walked in, and it got really busy. Please pray for more opportunities for me to say what God will have me say.
