Among my nightly prayers, I pray for my daughters’ (& some others) that God would give them each a fresh, godly discernment in processing everything they see, hear, & experience.
Last evening on Facebook, Emily shared something some man had written about how ridiculous it is to have laws against certain things which are victimless, like marijuana or raw milk. But he also mentioned polygamy & polyamory.
I made the point that I have read that polygamous (& by extention, polyamorous) relationships are not healthy for the children. That seems so sensible to me.
But Emily replied that it would depend on the parenting style. IOW, she’s not necessarily opposed to those marriages/relationships. 😦
It is distressing to see how far my daughters’ attitudes & opinions have strayed from God’s ways since they have strayed from Him. Sometimes it’s downright scary.
Thank You for Your faithfulness to keep adding blessing upon blessing even up to the beginning of year 2014 on our calendar. All those years have passed since Jesus was a man on earth. I consider all the souls saved since his sacrificial death on the cross. Thank You ! As the years pass there are many more born into this earthly world who need Jesus. O God of unlimited resources, hurry to make ways of redemption for the lost.
I pray, Father God, for a restoration of our nation’s government to the vision of our founding fathers who understood the dangers of tyranny when the divisions of government were allowed to become unbalanced and unhinged. Please help those in our government to work toward reconciliation with former standards that moved our nation to the forefront. May we as a nation look again to being a nation that serves you and reveres you. If You are not the God of our nation, a lesser god will be ruling even our top leaders and we will be enslaved to that lesser God instead of knowing the freedom that comes only through Jesus.
Thank You for the blessings of joy, peace and comfort You give to believers no matter the outward state of governmental affairs. You are the source of eternal internal blessings. I praise You for the secret internal blessings You daily bestowe upon your blessed children. In the name of Jesus, Amen
That should be “lesser god” with lower case g instead of uppercase G. Sorry for that disruption to the flow of the prayer. God knows it was unintentional but even so, please forgive me, Abba, Father.
Of the many foster children we have had, all of their bio parents were using marijuana at the least. Over half a million children in foster care in the US and most of those parents are using. Victimless? I don’t think so.
A friend/coworker just posted on FB that she lost her baby brother today. I am not sure of the detailes but any time a life is cut short is sad, but seems more so around a holiday. I don’t know the details.
Mumsee, do you mean that the placements into foster care are made to psrents who use marijuana? That is seems like a horrible example for the children. Who thought that would be okay?
There are NO victimless crimes. Haven’t we learned that? Robbery? Hurts the person you robbed. Buying cigarettes or alcohol for someone underage? Encourages breaking the law and leads to a lifetime of addiction.
I don’t understand polygamy or polamorous. I am one mean, jealous woman, and I ain’t sharing with nobody. If I am not enough for a man on my own I don’t want anything to do with him. I would rather be alone than share.
no, Janice, the children come into foster care because their biological parents are using to the extent that they are unable to care for their children. Sometimes the parents are making the children smoke it with them.
I had a patient once who had salmonella poisoning traced back to raw milk. She was one sick young girl. However, none of her siblings became ill… I would assume they drank the same milk she did so what was the difference? I do not know. (Extensive testing was done as the government stepped in when the lab results came back)
I suspect we would be more likely to get salmonella from the eggs we eat. Or seven year old would from aaaallllllll the things he eats, which we won’t discuss.
Prayer for Luis and Almondy, as their family visiting from Mexico was just in a bad car accident. No word yet on conditions. Luis and Almondy were prayed for on here a while back when they were stuck in Mexico with ill children while documents were being taken care of. They are family of a friend.
Mumsee – Emily made the point that correlation doesn’t equal causation. Using her term, “low lifes” tend to do things that are illegal, which would make marijuana & harder drugs attractive to them. But the same people who seem to start out with marijuana also have started out with alcohol. She believes that just as we know there are people who use alcohol responsibly & others who use it irresponsibly, the same could be said about marijuana.
We know some people in our family & elsewhere who use marijuana “recreationally”, but lead productive lives, too. Many believe it is equal to alcohol, in that it can be enjoyed within reason or it can be abused.
I don’t take a strong stand on it either way at this point.
Further report on the family in the car accident. The dad has chest injuries but should be released tonight. A boy and another adult have injuries, unclear if they will be released soon. The son is on life support and not expected to live. He is seven years old. Luis has recently had opportunity to share the gospel with all. That dad seemed quite receptive, the mom not so much. The little boy, unknown.
karen, we were having that discussion tonight. One son asked if the people who are making video games are guilty of bad behavior because of the addictiveness of the games. It definitely causes a lot of damage in many people’s lives. But the games are tools. I am sure marijuana is a tool and what people do with it determines the damage. He asked where the line is drawn. We could go on to the number of clothing items people in America have, the hairstlyes and time at the beauty parlor, etc. There is no definitive line. But we who are believers are expected to treat our neighbor with love, not try to get them addicted to something so we can get more money.
Karen, I just came from living in a polygamous society. People like your friends are talking off the top of their head – they have no idea of the challenges polygamy creates. If you want more information, I’d be happy to give it.

Well, I do agree that the raw milk thing should not be a crime.
