Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks- Bowl Edition
Here they are!
The final chance for Wandering Fame. Select the winners of these 10 college football bowl games and your reputation in the sporting world will be as accurate as the BCS itself. (Not really.) And shall we dare to make the National “Championship” Game the tie breaker? Sure, why not! Then the suspense can be almost as exciting as the game itself, if not more. (Remember, folks, these are college “students” who, although they have been on the practice field, haven’t played a game in over a month. Also, once they arrive in the city of the game, they get fat on fancy dinners and hoopla, so that come game time, they look often like high school freshman on the field for the first time. So, have at it. Just get your entries in by 6:45PM EST Monday, when the first game begins. (Note to Mumsee- Boise State already played in the Hawai’i Bowl and lost to Oregon State.)
#10 Oregon vs. Texas (VALERO ALAMO BOWL)
#24 Duke vs. #21 Texas A&M (Chick-fil-A BOWL)
#19 Wisconsin vs. #9 South Carolina- (CAPITAL ONE BOWL)
Iowa vs. #16 LSU- (OUTBACK BOWL)
#5 Stanford vs. #4 Michigan State- (ROSE BOWL)
#15 UCF vs. #6 Baylor- (TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL)
#11 Oklahoma vs. #3 Alabama- (ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL)
#13 Oklahoma State vs. #8 Missouri- (AT&T COTTON BOWL)
#12 Clemson vs. #7 Ohio State- (DISCOVER ORANGE BOWL)
#1 Florida State vs. #2 Auburn- (VIZIO BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP) Pick winner and score.
Alright, I don’t follow college football, but I think it’ll be fun to join in before I miss my chance, so here goes. 😉 Since I know very little about the teams, but know that a number of my former piano students went to several of the schools on this list, I will pick that way. Or if I know someone who lives in the states featured, I’ll pick that way. Or if it’s a state in the Upper Midwest…
Oregon – a former piano student went to school there
Duke – a young man from our church went there
Wisconsin – former piano student…
Iowa – ditto above
Michigan State – a Midwestern state
Baylor – I grew up on a farm, and Baylor sounds like baler (don’t laugh!)
Alabama – nice people I know in that state
Missouri – relatives live there
Ohio State – Midwest
Florida State – I know someone who lives in Florida
So how’s that for strategy? Don’t answer that! 🙂
Oops, almost forgot the tiebreaker score: Florida State 35 Auburn 30.
Oregon.
A&M
Gamecocks, of course.
LSU
Michigan State
Baylor
‘Bama
Missouri
Clemson (This is my wild guess here. I’ve just picked two Tigers in a row?????)
Auburn (Another Tiger??) 21/ Seminoles 14.
But you never know. Marshall beat Maryland. When I lived in Northern Virginia, Marshall was called “The Fumbling Herd”.
KBells, I thought of that when trying to decide on Auburn or Florida State, that I could have said about Auburn what I said on the Alabama pick. I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to pick both Auburn and Bama. 😉
BTW, it wasn’t until I started reading at WorldMagBlog that I’d even heard of Auburn. Then it took longer to figure out in which state the school was. (I didn’t know Auburn was a name of a city in Alabama, either.) I always say I learn a lot being a part of this blog, and WMB before it, and it’s true. Now I even know another definition of a “mixed marriage.” 🙂
6 Arrows, It is okay to pick both Bama and Auburn, Some Bama and Auburn fans (the good ones) will root for the other team if they are playing someone other than themselves and others (the bad ones) wouldn’t root for the other team if they were playing Al-Qaeda. 🙂
ESPN made a interesting film on the rivalry and the effects the Cam Newton scandal, the Toomer’s tree poisoning and the 2011 tornadoes had on it It’s called Roll Tide/War Eagle.
Here goes for one last chance to win-
Oregon – I don’t like either, but I like Texas less.
Duke – Because A&M is a Mizzou rival (and in Texas).
So Car – Don’t want to Badger Chas. 😉
Iowa – Hey, I can dream, can’t I?
Stanford – PAC-12 over B1G!
UCF – I wish I could call this a toss-up, but I’ll go for the underdog.
Bama – Can’t stand the Sooners either.
MIZZOU – RAH! – Need I explain?
Clemson – Unlike Chas, I like Tigers, especially when they are underdogs. (And Ohio State isn’t as good as they seem on paper.)
FSU 35 – 21 Sorry those of you who like Auburn. After what they did to my Tigers, I want to see them lose.
“…(the bad ones) wouldn’t root for the other team if they were playing Al-Qaeda.” LOL!
I know about the 2011 tornadoes, but I’ve not heard of the Cam Newton scandal or the Toomer’s tree poisoning. KBells, I’m going to have to designate you my official go-to person for all things Alabama college football…right when the season is rolling to an end. 😉
6 aroows, in Alabama the season doesn’t end. We will argue for the entire year about who won and why an (lately) who should and shouldn’t have won a Natioal Championship.
Oregon
A&M (Holding nose…)
S. Carolina
LSU
MSU
Baylor
Bama…but I can’t shake the nagging feeling that OU may stun us all
Mizzou
Clemson – OSU can’t play with a real defense
FSU – 42-31 Have to indulge myself…I told ya’ll at the beginning that they would be there!
Oregon
Texas A&M
Wisconsin
LSU
Stamford
Baylor
Alabama
Missour
Clemson
Florida State 41-31
