Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks- Week 12

‘Tis almost the season to be jolly, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

Football to some is but folly, Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

Boo to them and their opinions, Fa-la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la!

Let’s have fun and forget those minions! Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la!

Okay, so I should keep to teaching Spanish instead of writing carols. Or picking games for people to try and guess the winners. Sorry to say the games are coming to an end. Next week is rivalry week, and after that are the conference playoffs. I suppose that will be all for our little contest.

And my apologies for the picks, but games involving blog favorites were not very challenging this week. I mean, Alabama and Florida State are playing push over teams (no offense to those from Chattanooga and Idaho). There are a couple of big games to choose, though. The Big 12 and the SEC have important games, and Wisconsin and Minnesota face off, with both being in the Top 25! That hasn’t happened in a long time. Finally, the Pillow Fight features two B1G 10 teams that haven’t won a conference game all year. In fact, Illinois has lost its last 20 conference games.

Pick early, but not often. The first game is scheduled for Friday night at 9:30 PM EST, as the Midshipmen take on the Spartans. No, not Michigan State, but San Jose State.

  1. Navy @ San Jose State

  2. #4 Baylor @ #10 Oklahoma State

  3. #8 Missouri @ #24 Ole Miss

  4. #12 Texas A&M @ #22 LSU

  5. Brigham Young @ Notre Dame

  6. #19 Wisconsin @ #25 Minnesota

  7. Duke @ Wake Forest

  8. Boise State @ San Diego State

  9. Pillow Fight: Illinois @ Purdue

 10. Tie Breaker: #5 Oregon @ Arizona– winner and final score.

  1. OK Here goes:

    1. Navy
    2.`Baylor
    3. Ol’ Miss. (I knw, it’s wishful thinking. But that’s it.)
    4. LSU Again, against my better judgement, but It usually isn’t wrong to bet on LSU.
    5. Notre Dame
    6. Wisconsin
    7. Duke (Duke is doing well this year.)
    8. Go Boise!
    9. Purdue. Purdue has to win something this year.
    10. Oregon 24/Arizona 7

Also, S. Carolina beats Coastal and Clemson beats The Citadel.
Only if SC was preparing for Clemson, Coastal will whip them. I think they are 9-1 this season in their league. Bothe Coastal and Citadel can be dangerous.

  2. My picks:
    Navy – Go Navy!
Baylor – Undefeated? Who-da thunk it?
    Mizzour-RAH – TIGERS!
LSU – Because the other team is from Texas.
Notre Dame – Mormons vs Catholics. Not what I want, but BYU can’t win in South Bend.
Wisconsin – Neighbors battling. Badgers vs Gophers. Rodentia all the way. I smell a rat.
Duke – Can it be that Duke now has a football team as well as basketball?
Boise State – Broncos buck the Spartans.
Illinois – Sorry, Chas, but those around me who are Illini fans are getting embarrassed. I gotta work around these folks, you know.
Oregon 45 – 17- Yes, I am picking against my favorite team, but there is this thing called reality, and the Wildcats haven’t done well against the Ducks.

  3. Chas- That is the only reason these small schools go to games they know they are going to lose, so they can get the money. I mean, why else would Chattanooga go play the number one team in the nation?

Janice- You’re tie-breaker score is identical to mine. But since we differ on only one of the other games, we won’t have to worry about needing it.

  4. IBNO, Jr. wants to play again…

    Navy
    OK St
    Mizzou
    LSU
    Notre Dame
    Wisconsin
    Duke
    BSU
    Purdue
    Oregon 48-17

I suppose you noticed that he tried to copy his old man’s tiebreaker…that’s like the people on Price is Right that bid one dollar different!

  5. You understand why the guys at Coastal Carolina want to play well. It dawned on me once whin the Gamecocks were playing SC State. A small, traditionally black university in Orangeburg, just a few miles south of Columbia.
It occurred to me that every guy on that team would like to be playing on the other side. i.e. for Carolina. Thus, he would like most of all to beat them. It’s always that way when Carolina plays an in state school. I’m sure it’s true for Clemson too. Tiger guys don’t want to be Gamecocks, though..

  6. I loved being wrong on the tiebreaker!

    Double dittos!

I haven’t had tome to check all the scores and see who won. I’ll post something on the daily thread Monday to let you know. Or you can do the math yourselves. I may have to figure out a tie breaker replacement? Maybe, who reverse score was closest? Or who had the two teams scores closest to the actual result. Or flip a coin. Or just settle for a tie?

  7. Alas, lots of upsets this week, so a lot of low scores in our contest.. After all the dust settled, IBNO Jr. and I tied with 7 correct. Since no one got the winner of the tie breaker correct, I can’t go to it, so we’ll say it’s a tie. Congrats, Jr. Here is your Virtual High Five.

    Other results: kbells & Tychicus – 6; IBNO, JaniceG, Chas & AJ – 5; Rickyweaver & KimH – 4.
