Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks Week 7

Ladies and Gentlemen– Here is what you have been waiting for all week: another chance to show what you know about college football by guessing the results of ten games chosen based on whatever whim I feel at the moment. Like the pillow fight. ESPN chose last week’s loser of two teams who haven’t won all year again. So I decided to make it two BIG 10 teams who haven’t won a conference game all year. So without much further palaver from me, here are your choices for the pigskin picks:

1. #11 South Carolina @ Tennessee —  Chas’ team versus Anlir’s.

2. #22 Florida @ #14 Missouri — Mizzou got a big boost by knocking off Georgia. Can they do it again?

3. #24 Auburn @ #7 Texas A&M — Auburn gets a challenge this week. Go Tigers!

4. #9 UCLA @ #13 Stanford — This one seems like it will be a good game.

5. USC @ Notre Dame — Isn’t this one usually scheduled in November?

6. #5 Florida State @ #3 Clemson — Biggest challenge for Clemson.

7. #18 Oklahoma @ Kansas — A few years ago, this wouldn’t have been a gimme.

8. Nevada @ Boise State

9. A BIG 10 Pillow Fight: Minnesota @ Northwestern — Some think every BIG 10 game is a pillow fight.

10. Tie Breaker: Utah @ Arizona — Pick the winner and the score. Since Utah joined the PAC 12, it restarted a minor rivalry from the old Western Athletic Conference.

Get these picks in by noon Saturday.

  1. I need to think about this a while. I”m certainly going with SC, though the Vols gave Georgia a fit.. I’m gled you didn’t put Purdue up there. And I would like to see Mizzou Tigers meet the Gamecocks undefeated, as well as put the Gators down.
I also hope Clemson can beat the Seminoles. I would like to see them come to Columbia undefeated. But I agtree, their biggest challenge.

  4. Chas’ wild guesses:

    USC Gamecocks over the Vols.
Mizzou over the Gators, as I said before.
A&M over Auburn, though I hope I’m wrong on this.
    UCLA over Stanford
Notre Dame over the other USC
Clemson over the Seminoles. This will be a test for the Tigers. I would like to see them lose their first game on Nov. 30.
Oklahoma. Like a couple of others, I don’t have a horse in this race.
    Go Boise
    Northwestern over Minnesota.
    Utah 14/ Arizona 7

  5. We went to a “Southern Gospel Concert” in Rutherdfordton last night and didn’t see the game. But I heard the last part on the radio. NC Tarheels had a teriffic game against the Miami Hurricanes. Lost 27-23 in the last minute. Miami scored with 16 seconds left. Then Tar Heels drove from their 25 to the Miami 28 in 16 seconds, but couldn’t score. They needed a TD, a field goal wouldn’t do it.
I, of course, wanted NC to win.
    🙂
    but no

  7. South Carolina

Missouri – Mizzou is hard to beat at home.

    Texas A&M — So is Texas A&M

    UCLA

USC – I just cannot pick ND as the winner

    Clemson

Oklahoma — As a Missouri resident I cannot bring myself to pick KU. besides, they aren’t any good tis year.

    Boise State

Northwestern – Home field is their only advantage, I think.

    Arizona 21-20

  8. Tennessee -They are getting better.

Florida – The Mizzou QB is hurt.

Aggies – I am nervous about this one.

Stanford – They will rebound. UCLA is young at DB & OL

    USC

    Clemson – Home field edge.

    OU They are angry.

    Boise State

    Northwestern

    Arizona 31-27

Thanks, Peter. This is an interesting group with lots of tough choices.

  9. Ricky- You’re welcome.

I see there were a couple of upsets (Imagine Georgia losing to Vanderbilt!) while I was at my alma mater watching them win their homecoming game. It was a cat and dog fight. The Truman State Bulldogs beat the McKendrick Bearcats 28-21 in a Div. II matchup. At times it seemed that both teams were trying to lose.

  10. 😦 Terrible, terrible thing.
    I’m striking out, so far.
Gamecocks have to Play the Mizzou Tigers next week.
They had better start getting things together.
e.g. “There is a guy with a different colored shirt. He’s carrying the ball. Takle him.
“There is a football coming toward you. Catch it.”
    things like that.

  11. Chas, you remind of the Kid’s baseball coach. He is always yelling really obvious things at them, like. “Catch the ball” “Hit the ball” “Run fast.”

  12. I only got 6 this time…again! But, I don’t care…the ‘Noles showed everyone that we’re back! Told y’all they would stop Clemson!

  13. And stop them did. Resoundingly!

And the winner is… JaniceG with 7 out of 10! Here is your virtual High Five!

Other results, inbutnotof, AJ and Tychicus had 6, kbells and rickyweaver had 5; and Chas and I took it on the chins with only 4. All those upsets messed up our guesses. And I know we’ll be picking different teams next week in at least one game. 😉

  14. Peter and I will butt heads on the gridiron next week. I will go with Gamecocks in any case.
The Gamecocks are a better team than the Vols. But you couldn’t tell it by looking.
It will be interesting in Columbia (Missouri, that is)

  15. It’s a good thing that I’m not a football fanatic. Gemecocks learned long ago not to get too excited about football. I knew some Redskin fanatics when I leved in the DC area. A lost game could ruin their day. For me, it ruins an afternoon.
