Prayer Requests 10-1-13

Who can we pray for today?

Psalm 47

¹Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!

For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.

He will subdue the peoples under us, And the nations under our feet.

He will choose our inheritance for us, The excellence of Jacob whom He loves. Selah

God has gone up with a shout, The Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding.

God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.

The princes of the people have gathered together, The people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.

  1. Continuing prayers requested for Becca. She still can’t find anyone to play with most days at recess. Yesterday, she sat by the kids who were in time out, so no one would know she was all alone. It breaks my heart for her and I don’t know how to help. I’ve already alerted the teacher to the problem. Prayers for a more peaceful heart for me, as well. Thanks!

  2. Okay–not to be greedy–but more prayers requested for Becca. I can’t remember if I have shared this already or not–but Becca is having trouble with her eyes. I took her to see a developmental ophthalmologist last Thursday and they found she is having significant difficulties with convergence, tracking and focusing. The good news is the problems she’s experiencing can usually be resolved through physical and occupational vision therapy. They estimate it will take between six months and a year of twice weekly therapy to correct the problems. It’s why she is seeing the letters “run around the page like little ants” whenever she tries to copy. Her teacher is being very supportive.

One of the tests they did involved putting a lens over her eyes that made things blurry, then removing the lens and timing how long it takes before things become clear again. The average kid can do it twelve times in a minute. It took Becca 90 seconds to do it once. The doctor said it appears she has some paralysis in one eye from the muscles being overworked. I’m so glad I trusted my gut and had her evaluated as the problem is very difficult to correct after age 10 b/c the brain becomes more hard-wired at that age (in relation to visual processing). Evidently, it’s extremely common for kids that have this problem to also have deficiencies in fine motor skills (which she has). The therapy will address this as well.

  3. I wonder if Becca’s trouble with her eyes is also contributing to her social awkwardness? I have some eye issues and know how it can lead to discomfort in some social situations. At any rate, prayers for her.

  4. Prayers for Becca. My daughter had few to no friends until grade 8. I am so thankful for the Christian teachers she had who looked out for her. Now she has many, many friends. Friends who will lay down their life for her and she for them. I think it’s God’s blessing on her. I often wish I could make such good friends, and be such a good friend. She is truly an example for me.

  5. Prayers for Becca, so glad there’s a diagnosis and course of treatment available. And I sympathize with the feeling embarrassed about being seen “alone” — in my sophomore year in high school my walking buddies both got older boyfriends who had cars, suddenly leaving me with no one to walk home from school with. I was pretty shy and felt so awkward about it that I began to take a back route, walking through neighborhoods that weren’t on the main “drag” where everyone walked in their tight-knit little ‘groups.’

When the boyfriends graduated the next year, I got my walking pals back again for our junior year. 😉 But I still remember that sophomore year (which also was when my dad was diagnosed with cancer) as being very lonesome.

  6. Remember a former WMB commenter who went by “Louise”? She & I have become fond friends through our Facebook exchanges (public & private). Today she asked for prayer, as she will be going through some tests tomorrow & Thursday. She has been told she has a stage 4 cancer, but not sure right now which kind of cancer. She said if it is the squamous cell cancer she’s had in the past, that could be good news.

Louise says she’s “mad and sad but hopeful.” And yes, I asked her permission before posting this here.

  7. Sixth Arrow got a fairly big burn on the inside of her forearm when she spilled hot apple cider tonight. It’s not blistered, but she’s in some pain. Prayers that first aid rendered here at home will be effective.
