  1. 😦
    I have forgotten my rants.
I reckon that tells how important they were.
In the latter part of the week, I have an irritation of some sort to rant about. So, rather than post it, I decide to wait umto; Satirday to rant.
Turns out. It wasn’t worth posting anyhow, was it?

  2. For months now, I have been experiencing excessively slow internet. I, naturally, blamed the ISP, which is ATT. I subscribe to the fastest DSL they advertised. But I have also had connection problems. Three times I had to call ATT assistance to get back online. All were very helpful. However, the third time, the lady told me that I needed a new modem. So, I bought a new modem.
    My internet is faster.
I haven’t had any problems, so far.
I didn’t know that an old modem would slow down the internet. Apparently it does.
It cost almost $100 to order and deliver the new modem. But it’s worth it if this is a permanent fix.
But ATT now has “ultra” that they want to sell me. It comes in a package. I don’t much go for packages.

  3. 🙂 Saturday.

😦 Up too early. Blame the cat.

😦 Tess is chewing one of her paws and gives me her evil eye when I try to inspect it. She’s not limping, but something’s irritating her. I may have to get a muzzle on her to look at it later today.

😦 🙂 Saturday morning cable news programs are really silly. Like: Tucker Carlson in green shorts, shirt and tie getting muddy while going through a boot-camp style training course competing against the female co-host in a too-tight pink dress.

😦 CVS was robbed at around 3 a.m. so there were helicopters & K-9 units called out (someone posted a homemade video on fb). They caught the guys (3 of them). Good dogs.

😦 The state of the nation. Unraveling fast, it seems to me sometimes.

  4. 🙂 Adorable granddaughter #4 born safely and 10 days early on Tuesday.
🙂 Impeccable timing on the part of Alexis–arrived 22 hours after I got home and with plenty of time before I leave again.
🙂 I was doing more research in TN and then attended a writer’s conference in Indianapolis.
🙂 Amazing research story, as usual, see my Tuesday blog post.
🙂 Amazing visit to the dress owned by my Civil War heroine–I was allowed to go behind the scenes to inspect close up. I’m 5’9″. When I stood next to the manikin wearing the dress, I towered over it. Curator estimates my character was about 4′ 10! Which is important to know . . .
🙂 Fantastic contacts at the conference. Three editors want my WWI proposal and a fourth is interested.
🙂 Best news–I’ve got an invitation to meet someone on the board of directors for the Oswald Chambers Publication Association in Scotland. Working on the details now . . .
    🙂 Birthday parties all weekend!

😦 Boxes remain in every room of the house.
    😦 Blinds are expensive
    😦 I am tired

But those issues are so trivial compared to the joy of the last week, who cares?

Because God is in his heaven and all, really, is right with my world!

  5. 🙂 Becca had a sweet friend spend the night last night and they’ve had a great time together!

🙂 Dinner with my wonderful hubby last night while little girls were at Parent’s Night Out at The Little Gym. Good food and better conversation (with no interruptions–what a concept!).

🙂 Becca is invited to a birthday party on Sunday afternoon.

🙂 Lots of long talks with my sister this week. She returns to Africa October 8–so we are taking advantage of free phone calls.

🙂 Attended my first meeting for a Mom’s Prayer Group, where we are praying for our kids and our kids’ school. It’s a small group-about 12 women–and I liked all of them. They were an authentic and transparent group. I’m glad I was invited to attend.

😦 Becca’s still having difficulty finding friends to play with at recess.

😦 Becca’s still complaining the letters are moving whenever she tries to copy.

🙂 Becca has an appointment with a developmental ophthalmologist on the 26th.

🙂 L. has all A’s in her high school credit classes (health, Algebra I and Spanish). Grades are good in her other classes as well.

  6. 😦 Becca still has two middle ear infections. She’s been on various antibiotics since 8/31, which we’ve taken as prescribed. Pediatrician referred us to an ENT, where we have an appointment on Monday.

  7. 🙂 The goodness and mercy of God. I think it was Sinclair Ferguson who, in writing on Psalm 23, compared God’s goodness and mercy to His ‘twin sheepdogs’.

😦 My mother-in-law fell and broke her hip this week. She’s 86 and has advanced dementia.

🙂 The surgery to pin and stabilize the hip went better than expected, and she’s being transferred to rehab today. With physical and occupational therapy, we hope to be able to bring her back home within a few weeks.

🙂 The wonderful prayer support, well wishes and encouragement of friends from all over the world (thanks, Facebook!)

  8. mmacmurray, I named a former dog of mine “Mercy” after hearing Ferguson speak on that topic at a Ligonier conference I attended. 🙂 (I still have the notations of that talk in the Bible I had with me that day — and the one I still grab to take to church with me nowadays).

I’ll have to find the written version of that.

annms, the prayer group sounds wonderful — prayers, too for Becca & mmacmurray’s mil.

michelle, congratulations on it all — you’re amazing. 🙂

  9. I love those two sheepdog names!

It’s not me, Donna. This project has seen one amazing door open after another. This is all being directed by the hand of God and I’m just the one typing the words. Truly amazing. I’m at peace about the whole thing and really, just need to sit down and type.

It’s so reminiscent of the house purchase–once God moves, I just have to ride along with him, sign my name and be amazed–plus give God the glory which is what I’m trying to do here!

And I have to step through the doors, too. Who would guess our three days in Scotland would turn up such an appointment? I thought I was going just to see H before she returns to Sicily and the mission field. Instead, I’m taking her with me on a train ride to Glasgow and a meeting with a man whose board (long ago) made sure Biddy Chambers had enough to live on while she transcribed all of OC’s words.

Blessed beyond belief and in awe of the Lord.

  10. Interesting, I was looking for the Ferguson piece and found a comment on another blog thread that said one can find 4 ‘sheepdogs’: Light and Truth to go before us (Ps 43:3) – and Goodness & Mercy to follow us (Ps 23:6)

  11. 🙂 I tried the WordPress app for my iPhone and it makes it MUCH easier to read you all when I’m on the go.

🙂 The app shows nice smiley and frowney faces in AJ’s post at the top.

😦 The app does not show me any of the faces in y’all’s comments. I presume they are there but I don’t see them.

  13. 😦 Something didn’t smell right this morning. I figured Annie had brought “something” indoors that had died — and sure enough, I found a poor dead mouse in the spare room near her litter box.

  14. 😦 More hours of babysitting this week than usual, especially the 9 & 1/2 hours yesterday, have tired me out. I was so happy that Forrest’s other grandparents agreed to take him this afternoon while Emily & Chrissy attended their cousin’s bridal shower, so Lee & I could have some very rare time alone in the house.

😦 They only kept him for an hour & a half. After that, it was another four hours before Emily & Chrissy got home. I was so tired & angry by the time they finally got home.

🙂 But in the midst of it, there was a sweet period of time when Forrest & I sat on the front lawn, waiting for his mommy to drive down the lane to come home (his idea). Evening was coming on, dusk was creeping in, & my little firecracker of a grandson was tiring, & feeling a bit mellow, not to mention that he was missing his mommy.

We must have sat there, & then on the front porch, for about half an hour. We talked about some random things, & I showed him how to blow a leaf off his palm. He thought that was pretty neat.

🙂 I love how he often looks so intently in my eyes when we talk.

  15. 🙂 Sixth Arrow’s sixth birthday yesterday.

🙂 Nice birthday party with our whole nuclear family, plus both sets of grandparents, an uncle who drove one set of grandparents, and 2nd Arrow’s boyfriend.

🙂 Lots of birthday presents, including a cute pair of sandals from above-mentioned boyfriend. Sixth Arrow was a little shy about opening the present he gave her because she had not seen him since meeting him last Christmas. Eventually, when she thought no one was looking (but some of us did notice, including the gift-giver), she took a peek inside the wrapping, slowly pulled out the gift and got a big smile on her face. Soon she had the sandals on her feet, and wore them most of the rest of the day. 😉

🙂 Fifth Arrow exclaiming when the second set of grandparents showed up, “Two grandmas and two grandpas here on the same day?!”

😦 Bad colds beginning to make the rounds in our house. I’m home from church with two of the afflicted ones, including yesterday’s birthday girl.

😦 Our oldest cat (14 years old) has gone blind. Fourth Arrow suspected it, and Second Arrow, our vet-tech-in-training, confirmed it when she got home this weekend. This is the cat we’ve had the longest (since he was a kitten), and is a favorite of more than one person around here, but especially of 2nd Arrow’s.

🙂 Sunshine and brisk autumn temperatures at the same time. Not too cold and not too hot. Love it!
