Psalm 37-27-40
27 Depart from evil, and do good; And dwell forevermore.
28 For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, And dwell in it forever.
30 The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; None of his steps shall slide.
32 The wicked watches the righteous, And seeks to slay him.
33 The Lord will not leave him in his hand, Nor condemn him when he is judged.
34 Wait on the Lord, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
35 I have seen the wicked in great power, And spreading himself like a native green tree.
36 Yet he passed away, and behold, he was no more; Indeed I sought him, but he could not be found.
37 Mark the blameless man, and observe the upright; For the future of that man is peace.
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble.
40 And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him.
I’ve got two young women on my heart, pregnant and in challenging circumstances. One nearly died in her first pregnancy–lost half her blood and it killed her pituitary gland. The list of medical problems is endless but she was determined to have another child. Using synthetic hormones (how is that even possible?), she was able to get pregnant again. The little girl is not due until March, so it’s a long haul that has already involved three hospital stays.
I’m in awe of her heroic choices to have another baby (she’s a nurse), but also a little flummoxed about it all. Can you just pray God’s will to be done and that the Lord will use this amazing situation to bring the family to him?
The other is also complex and I cannot detail anything other than to say, the Lord appears to be at work in the life of this young woman and her father. It looks pretty bad right now, so bad the dad appealed to anyone he knew who prayed–no matter the spiritual beliefs.
I was on that list.
I talked with him recently and someone in his life suggested maybe he should be thanking God for the circumstances rather than asking for things and gave him two books to read on the subject.
I smiled when he told me the titles: Power of Praise and Prisoner of Praise by Merlin Carouthers.
I’m delighted he’s got a Christian helping him through a hard, hard situation.
Oh, it’s messy and awful but look who’s there in the midst with them! Pray they would all come into a living relationship with the Jesus who really can heal all their wounds and walk with them through the very dark places they’ve found themselves in.
As my husband likes to say, “when you get to the end of your rope, that’s where you find Jesus.”
Amen.
And, of course, for Mumsee and Mike’s oldest daughter’s wedding this weekend. 🙂
May she never have any of these problems!

I understand the spirit of “when you get to the end of your rope, that’s where you find Jesus” and do NOT mean to be critical, but I always cringe a little when I see sentiments like that. It implies that all the good times and the good things are of our own doing and Jesus only shows up when we can’t handle it anymore. Truth is, Jesus has been there all along that rope and shame on us if we only look for Him when there’s trouble.

Praying for the afore mentioned Michelle….
I have always understood the saying of reaching the end of your rope and finding Jesus at the end as having the same meaning as the familiar quote by Corrie ten Boom
“There is no pit so deep, that God’s love is not deeper still.”….that meaning His love runs so long and so deep….that even when you get to your end….He is still there…He never leaves us nor forsakes us….very comforting when your are just hanging on during the turbulent waters of life….

nancyjill – that’s what I meant by saying that I understand the spirit of it. Corrie’s quote is worded better, IMHO.

No problem, Linda. I’m praying she will hit the bottom and then see that Jesus Christ is the only real answer. Dad, in despair over her, should take a good look around, too.
Thanks for your prayers!

Michelle, I know that it took me getting to the end of my rope or my way, before I found Jesus. I had to learn that my way didn’t work and seek Him and His way.

For those of you who read about Henry Blackaby (“Experiencing God”) missing over the past few days, this has been posted on Twitter:
Henry Blackaby had a heart attack while driving that led to disorientation for 29 hours. He must have 4 bypasses ASAP maybe tomorrow. Pray!

It is only a regenerate heart that can perceive its own sin and need for Christ — I suppose I always see that as a person’s coming to “the end” of their rope (or the end of themselves, which it’s often rephrased as).
So we “find” God at that point, but only after (and because) he’s already found us and opened our eyes and ears.
