Here are your choices, though actual competitive games seem slim pickin’s this time around. And once again, Boise State is playing on Friday night. Hey, don’t they know up there in the Northland that Saturday is the day for college football? At any rate, since Arizona has a bye this week, I decided to go to AJ’s league for the tie breaker. That’s right, a battle for bragging rights in the Big Apple between Columbia of the Ivy League traveling to Fordham of the Patriot League. You’ll need to do your homework to figure out a final score, especially since this will be Columbia’s first game. Okay, have at it folks! Just get your entries in by 9:00PM EDT Friday night.
Boise State @ Fresno State – This is North versus South out West. Or should I say, the land of former Californians versus the Vegetable Capitol of the World. (At least that’s what I remember of the only time I’ve been to Fresno, miles and miles of farmland in a desert.)
Michigan State @ No. 22 Notre Dame – Spartans vs. Irish. One wonders how the ancient peoples of those names would have actually fared against each other. Or not.
Purdue @ No. 24 Wisconsin – B1G Ten. They forgot how to count, so they changed their logo. Now it looks like they can’t spell. And they haven’t figured out how to name their divisions. Legends and Leaders? Really? But they can play football, at least until they play the SEC in championship games.
Utah State @ USC – PAC 12. At least they could change their name when they added two more schools. Anyone else remember when it was the PAC-8?
Auburn @ No. 6 LSU – Perhaps a real matchup here. Both teams 3-0. Tigers vs. Tigers. Any other conferences have three teams with the same mascot? Any other conferences have half their teams in the Top 25? I didn’t think so.
Missouri @ Indiana – The third SEC Tigers face a (not-so) Big 10 foe. Or should I say “faux”. I can’t remember the last time Indiana had a great football program. Basketball, maybe. Too bad there aren’t hoops at either end of the field.
Tennessee @ No. 19 Florida – It’s not intentional that there are more SEC teams in this list. But what can I say?
Colorado State @ No. 1 Alabama – Figured everyone should get at least one game correct. And Kim is a ‘Bama fan.
No. 23 Arizona State @ No. 5 Stanford – This PAC-12 matchup features the only game with two teams from the Top 25. And Stanford’s first big test.
Tie Breaker: Columbia @ Fordham – Guess the winner and the score. Then if you get the closest and tie with another player, you win! The question is, who but AJ knows enough about these two 1-AA teams to even make an educated guess? (I think only AJ knows about these since he is from the area.)
Picks for Septermber 20/21
Acutally Clemson is going to beat NC State on Thursday.
1. Go Boise
2. Spartans. Irish almost lost to Purdue
3. Purdue over Wisconsin. Can’t vote against the Boilers unless they’re playing a real team.
4. USC. Only because I like the name. Otherwise, just a wild guess.
5. LSU over Auburn. I don’t like Tigers of any stripe. But I think LSU is best this year.
6. Missouri over Indiana. SEC over Big 10 is usually the way to bet.
7. Florida. Vols are having a bad year this year.
8. Bama The Tide over Colorado State.
9. Stanford over Arizona State. As if I cared.
10. Columbia 21/Fordham 7
Go Boise
Notre Dame- My grandmother was of Irish descent
Wisconsin-I know someone who lives there
USC-Why not>
LSU–there just isn’t a better place to watch football than Death Valley
Missouri
Flo-Rida
Alabama
Fordham 27-17
Here are my non-expert guesses. I suppose we could all just copy Kim’s post (w/out her comments), and hope we get the tie breaker. But what would be the fun in that?

Bama…even though my cousin played for the Rams…
ASU
Columbia 13-10
kbells- Also because lately they have been a quality contender from an area not known for its football powerhouses. And they have that blue field. That’s different!
So, I am going to pull an “election night” MSM early call, since the only games left to decide are the Auburn-LSU and Mizzou-Indy, and there are three guys tied with 7 correct each. Not only that, but all three of us- AJ, Tychicus and myself- picked the same teams in both games, the results will be a three-way tie. That means I go to the tie-breaker. The final in that game was Fordham over Columbia 52-7. My guess was 40-20; AJ was 21-14 and Tychicus was 37-10. Now, the question is, how to figure. I decided to just add up the number of points off, whether over or under, which gives it to Tychicus with 18. I would have 25 that way and AJ 38. Does that seem fair to you guys?
Congratulations to Tychicus, then. Here is your virtual HIGH FIVE!

So I’m the only one to pick Auburn. I guess it’s just wishful thinking, since an Auburn win always makes things around here a little more pleasant. 🙂

Well, kbells, a lot of others would be pleased with an Auburn win, such as those other schools in the SEC Western Division.

Everyone but Inbut chose Boise.
Fresno won 41-40. I left early in the third quarter. It was tied then.

I think the blue field is part of their success. It causes their players to blend in making it harder to find and tackle them. 🙂

Good point, kbells. So does that mean that a team should choose uniforms the same color as the grass to have an advantage?
