Prayer Requests 9-13-13

Who has a request to share today?

Psalm 32

¹ Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.

Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long.

For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah

I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him.

You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.

Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you.

10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.

11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

  1. I have a friend here at work who was diagnosed as having a congenital heart valve defect. He is scheduled for open heart surgery the end of the month. Please pray not only for his health, but also for his spiritual life. He is a good moral person and is Catholic, but I am not sure the Lord has ever called him to repentance and faith.

  2. The Kid had an accident yesterday in gym. He seemed fine this morning but tried to use it to stay out of school. It didn’t work and he is in a bad mood. Prayers that he will stay calm today and not get in trouble.

I remember the day my Mama let me stay home from school. I claimed to be “sick.” I had to stay in her bed. No TV. No books. Just the bed. I was so bored! I never tried that again.

  4. Bob, I’ve done that several times and told him that’s the way it would be today but since he does not know the poem he had three weeks to learn, I suppose he thought it would be worth it.

  5. But let me take a moment to gripe. Last night he had over three hours of homework. That was with me standing over him driving him the whole time. That’s seven hours in school, then over three hours of homework. That’s not counting the quiz we didn’t have time to study for or the book report and science project due in a couple of weeks or the poem due today. Adults complain when they have to do a 10 or 11 hour day a couple of times a week but children are being expected to do it every day. Adults get weekends off but we will be working on the science project Saturday. We may have to skip sports this year or forget time outside just playing or a leisurely family dinners or chores. Gee I wonder why there is a childhood obesity problem?

  6. Quick update. I am in the capital and saw the doctor. Blood work was drawn, results will be back on Tuesday. I wasn’t able to get the ultrasound, but I have an appointment for Monday afternoon. We were supposed to go home Monday morning. I am staying and my friends are wanting to stay to make sure I’m taken care of, but there’s work to be done at home. It would be nice if they could stay, but I can handle it if they go home. Getting myself home will be the next challenge if they leave me, but there are options so I’m not worried about it.

The good news is that I have some meds to help me eat in the meantime. I will be trying to eat a little bit this weekend.

  7. Well, doing Tuesday can’t be any worse than doing Monday. So if you’re friends want to stay, I think I can handle it, Aji. Just as long as they’re back by Thursday.

  9. I don’t have time to type right now, but am sending out a quick prayer request. I’m feeling extremely anxious about Becca. Recently, when doing homework, she commented that the letters were “running around the page like ants.” I’m trying to get her scheduled for an evaluation for dyslexia/dysgraphia/ehrlin syndrome, but have been waiting on a call back for two days. She is very frustrated (understandably so) and I’m concerned. Please pray for a peaceful mind for me and encouragement for Becca. Will post more later. Thanks.

We had problems like that last school year with our two “grand daughters.” One of them is smart enough and the other one may not be. Doing homework was always a fight. First I had to figure out what was wanted. Then get them to do what was wanted…

    Here are some random observations.
All children need to have their math facts memorized; 1st Gr= addition, 2nd Gr= subtraction, 3rd Gr= multiplication, 4th Gr= division all through twelvesies.
They need practice reading easy stories. I emphasize, easy.
If they have spelling words or vocabulary words, go over them every day.

I guess I was a bad teacher, I hated giving them home work so I didn’t. I didn’t do my own home work as a child unless my parents made me. I was lucky. As my father said, “Smart kids learn anyway.”

I am against school assigned home work for an hour a day; too much! He will have to learn how to work at home. Many kids get out of high school and don’t know how to work. Your boy will be ahead of most boys if he knows how to work, keep at it until the job is finished. This he will learn from you and your husband. Chores and working with you around the house, doing dishes, putting them away, sweeping the floor, cleaning floors, walls, the bathroom, sweeping the driveway, flowerbeds, the lawn, washing the car, washing windows, those will be enough without having to do 3 hours of homework every night. Your husband is in the Army? Soldiers do all those “chores.” Those are all man jobs.

  11. I would appreciate prayers for tomorrow. I have a lot of important things to accomplish, and it’s easy for me to get off track on Saturdays, especially when my husband is gone, as he will be tomorrow. Please pray for productivity and stamina for me. Thanks so much.
