Prayer Requests 8-7-13

Who has a request or praise to share today?

And it’s Wednesday, so please remember Gambia. 🙂

Psalm 145

1 I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.

Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness.

They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

10 All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee.

11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power;

12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.

13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

18 The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.

19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

21 My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

  1. I’m headed to the beach today. We will be there through Saturday. Prayers requested for safe travels and that my daughters would get along well. It’s just a girls trip–me and my daughters; my best friend and her daughter; and our nanny, Connie. Connie hasn’t been on a vacation in years, so this trip was really prompted by her desire to go to the beach. Hubby generously agreed to pay for our lodging, since Connie and best friend have very little money. I’m really looking forward to it! We are leaving today around noon, as it takes about two hours to get there and we can’t check in ’til 4:00. My girls love BFF’s daughter, Nicole. Nicole is 11–3 years older than Becca and 3 years younger than eldest daughter. They’ve all been friends since Nicole’s birth, so they’re more like cousins than just friends. They usually play really well together. Thanks for all the prayers over the last week.

  2. prayer for us, here at the Nest. Our neighbor is taking all of the children so we can have some much needed down time. We may weed the rhubarb, we may visit my dad, we may go canoeing. We may do nothing at all. We may sleep. But it is a welcome little break from a lot of responsibility. Pray for the neighbor as she takes on nine children for the day.

  3. Mumsee: If you don’t mind my asking, how old are the nine children in your care? As a kid, I dreamed of having a lot of money so I could build a really nice facility for throw-away kids. I imagined I’d pay the staff so well that we’d have very low turnover and people who were extremely committed to the well-being of the kids. Around age 22, I volunteered for an agency called Covenant House here in Houston. It’s a Christian agency that provides temporary housing for runaways and throw-aways age 14-22. They help with job training and life training while providing a safe haven. The majority of the kids have had very hard lives and come to Covenant House as pretty damaged, hurting people.

  4. Annms: we have a seventeen year old, two sixteen, three fifteen, one fourteen, two twelve, one seven and one five. They are a delight. We never got the lot of money, but we have enough. It is fun to remind the children that we live below the poverty level. Unfortunately, that means we cannot hire much help, but that is okay. Our children also get job training and life training and a reasonable safe haven, if you discount the rattle snakes.

  5. Hubby and I are headed for the ocean today, too, for the weekend (Wildwood, NJ). The weather forecast there is for solid rain from now through Sunday. 😦

  6. I am battling the blues today. I am feeling sorry for myself and really beating myself up over not being on the team I was on and all the missed opportunities. I am missing out on lots of good things and a trip to Austin in September and a trip to Phoenix in February. I was with Cal and another agent yesterday for a company meeting and I just felt awkward and excluded.
