Prayer Requests 6-27-13

Who can we pray for today?

Psalm 111

1 Praise ye the Lord. I will praise the Lord with my whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation.

The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.

His work is honourable and glorious: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the Lord is gracious and full of compassion.

He hath given meat unto them that fear him: he will ever be mindful of his covenant.

He hath shewed his people the power of his works, that he may give them the heritage of the heathen.

The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure.

They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.

He sent redemption unto his people: he hath commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

  1. Prayer for the folks at the funeral, that they would hear the Truth and the Truth would set them free. Prayer for the pastor giving the message, that he would speak to the hearts of the people. Comfort for the family and friends. Thanks.

  2. Pray for my young friend H who has been in Sicily as a missionary. Her visa did NOT come through and she must leave the country for three months next week. Christian Associates, the missionary agency with whom she’s affiliated is searching for an interim spot. It looked like they have found one in Kenya, but the sending church her in Sonoma County nixed it.

The pastor believes she needs to come home to sort our her visa issues (which she was unable to do while she lived here), and then return to Italy. He (and I’m assuming that includes the mission board at the church; this isn’t our church) feel it will confuse the donors if she “dilutes” her ministry by going to Africa for the three months she’s not allowed in Italy.

There’s an off chance she could go to L’Abri in England, and they’d encourage that, but only one slot is open and the timing doesn’t quite work. She’s open to taking a house sitting spot in England if anyone knows of one, or doing other ministry with other missions. So far, it’s all been no. With the clock ticking down, it will be interesting to see what will happen.

But please pray for her. You can imagine how stressful this is.

(And of course, everything I say to her about faith bounces back to hit me–only with a house involved in my case!)

  3. My daughter still needs prayer for wisdom and provision for a job and health insurance for her family. Her husband may be doing subbing for the next school year, since nothing else seems to have worked out for him. He will have a Masters to complete and an internship. They can live with that, but do need insurance, which was covered by his job before he was laid off. Prayers for them to continue to trust the Lord and be wise in their quest.

  4. Kathaleena – Excuse me for asking, but is their need of insurance the general need we all have, or is there a specific reason they need it even more, such as expensive-but-necessary medications?

We also have no health insurance right now, & I really have to do some research on the matter, such as looking into the Christian “sharing” ministries.

But we also went through a seven-year period of being uninsured when our girls were growing up. We still went to the yearly check-ups for them, took them in for ear infections (mostly Chrissy) or such, & even had Emily see a pediatric cardiologist once a year due to a heart murmur.

Oh yeah, there was also Emily’s broken arm when she was 7.

If we couldn’t afford the doctors &/or hospital bills at the time, we were able to pay them off with monthly payment agreements. I don’t know if things have changed too much in the past several years. I hope doctors still are willing to do that.

  5. Mostly she was concerned about some health issues that may turn worse. She isn’t one to go into the doctor often or bring her children in for every little thing. She would have no problem with a very high deductible, but it seems they are not as available (or available?) under changes in the law. It may be more peace of mind, as well. I know people who have gone without. I hope you can pick something up, too. Easy for those costs to sky-rocket so quickly.
