Good Morning!
Happy Saturday! 🙂
On this day in 1775 American troops began the siege of British-held Boston.
In 1836 the U.S. territory of Wisconsin was created by the U.S. Congress.
In 1841 in Philadelphia, PA, Edgar Allen Poe’s first detective story, “The Murders in the Rue Morgue,” was published in Graham’s Magazine.
In 1861 Robert E. Lee resigned from the U.S. Army.
In 1902 scientists Marie and Pierre Curie isolated the radioactive element radium.
In 1912 Fenway Park opened as the home of the Boston Red Sox.
Not to be outdone, Chicago’s Wrigley Field held its first Cubs game with the first National League game at the ballpark in 1916.
On this day in 1945 Soviet troops began their attack on Berlin while Allied forces took control of the German cities of Nuremberg and Stuttgart. It was also Hitler’s birthday.
And in 1961 FM stereo broadcasting was approved by the FCC.

“I have had many occasions this year where I questioned and second-guessed my decision in a game, but it comes down to learning from mistakes and being accountable for what you did right or did wrong.”

Good Saturday morning everyone.
Thanks for the well wishes for Elvera.
Busy day today.

🙂 I said “Busy day”. I told a lady at the Y yesterday, “It now takes me a week to do what I used to do on a Saturday morning.” I exaggerated somewhat, sometimes it took me all day Saturday.

Chas- I’m here. I’m waiting for the sun and wind to dry the grass before going out. Also, it would be nice not to mow the lawn when it is only 33°!

When I got back from the morning walk this morning, I saw the grass in the rose garden was too wet to weed eat. But I asked one of my walking companions if he had restrung it and checked the fuel. He had, within five minutes of me mentioning it the other day. He also told me not to drive my monster truck until he could get some steering wheel fluid for it though he was able to cap off the brake fluid, changed the oil on the monster truck, fixed the hole in husband’s radiator, repaired the tire on my wheelbarrow, replaced the blades on his cadillac, and who knows what else. Pretty busy for a fourteen year old. Can you tell he wants to be a mechanic?

He is one of those gifted folk. You know the kind I mean. He looks at the machine and knows what the problem is. Hard to get a job like that anymore as it is all computerized, but he will find his spot.

I need someone like that around here 🙂
It’s snowing AGAIN today. Last year the grass was greening and the buds on the trees were swelling. We still have over a foot of compacted snow all over the yard, except the driveway. I guess I’ll paint window trim inside today and seal off the part of the kitchen where hubby will be sanding drywall tonight.

We finally found a guy willing to take the job of the sheet rock in the upstairs of the pole barn. He is willing to work with the children at it. So we have several who have been working hard at putting up sheet rock, taping, mudding. Soon it will be sanding and then painting. The place is finally warm. They got insulation up last year but until the sheet rock got up, it was cold. Rarely over fifty inside. Phos can attest to that as she taught orchestra up there. With her winter coat and snow slippers and hat.

Encourage that kid like mad, Mumsee (which I’m sure you’re doing). Mechanics and machinists are going to be in very short supply in a few years. My brilliant son, as I’ve said before, is supporting his family as a machinist–it requires computer skills (he has to write programs to run the machines), but also a three-dimensional intuition you cannot teach well.
Yeah, computers run the cars but it still takes a human ear to listen to the problem and figure out how to repair it. If you can mesh natural talent with some computer skills, I think you’ve got a winner.
I’m not talking about computer skills you get, however, from shooting people in computer games. 😦

Forrest has been acting bratty today. Even his mommy thinks so. I think it’s because she has been working a lot this week, he’s been very active playing outside a lot, & he hasn’t had many naps. So, Papa & Mimi (Lee & I) are going to take him for a little car ride after supper (pizza!), which will cause him to fall asleep, & then he should sleep through the night.
This will be the 6th day in a row Emily’s had to work (this afternoon into later this evening), so having him asleep this evening will be a blessed break for this weary Mimi. (I’m getting a cold, too, so am feeling extra tired.)

Busy day around here. Well, not so much around here. But the eleven year old boy was working on the eleven year old girl’s bike and the five year old’s. Maybe he will be a mechanic as well, but I don’t think so. He just wanted to help. The six year old was eating twine. The others are off to roller skating (a birthday celebration for one turning seventeen on Monday), karate practice, and then a big square dance. We are here playing Tinker Toys, leggos, and reading books. And waiting for the grandchildren. Oh, and second son and his wife.

If the Knicks get past the Celts (not a given), I hope they make it to play the Heat in the EC Finals. The Knicks can beat the Heat. If they don’t get there, I hope the Pacers do to take on the Heat. In the East, I’m for anyone but the Heat!

I attended the Ga. Baptist WMU Spring Fest Friday and Saturday at Calloway Gardens. There were lots of good speakers and music. It is always special to hear a roomful of about 700 ladies singing (a few men were in attendance with their wives or as speakers). The two young brave ladies who have the new book out about being in prison in Iran were there again as well as last year. Prayer was a big focus of this year’s event. The preacher who coordinated the cleanup after one of the tornadoes in Georgia told how he was surprisingly put in charge of the effort by government officials. He said he would only get the effort going if they could tell people their work was done in the name of Jesus. The go-ahead was given so he considered that to be a true miracle. I guess concessions will be made when the government is desperate enough.

Tychicus, I’m with you on the Eastern Conference. The Harden trade is reminding be of the 1976 Republican primary season. With James Harden my Thunder would have been tough to beat, just as Reagan would have beaten Carter. That makes Kevin Martin this year’s Gerald Ford. I am hopeful but filled with thoughts of what could have been. Boo Salary Cap! Boo Luxury Tax! Boo David Stern! Boo Mark Cuban and other socialist owners!

Funny moment in church this morning. As our pastor was preaching from Romans, he paused between thoughts; right in that hushed moment, a therapy dog-in-training who attends our services every week, let out a succession of woof-woof-woofs.
Our pastor made some crack about the Toronto blessing (if any of you remember that from the 1990s, when congregations were exhibiting signs such as animal sounds) before continuing on.
The therapy dog, who’s normally quiet as can be but is entering that more unpredictable “teen” stage of his growth, was taken outside for a break. 🙂

Cheryl – What do you mean about that being for Joel Mark? And is he on here by another name & I missed that fact?

Karen, I don’t think he’s been on here lately, but I’m pretty sure he was on here a while ago. My link is really “for” everybody, but Joel Mark is the one who regularly pointed out on World that opening the door to homosexual marriage was really opening the door to any kind of marriage one could think of. So I thought of him when I saw this one. . . .

Yeah, the term “marriage equality” really opens it up for just about anything.

I know it’s really hard, but I am sure someone hear can figure out some way to convince yourself that Jesus loves homosexual marriage. After all, millions of people love Jesus and they have hundreds of thousands of ideas of what he said and what he meant. One would think we could just listen to Jesus speaking for himself on YouTube, but no . . . everyone makes up their own interpretation.

K Bells, you have little idea how right you are. My wife is catching a train to Portland this morning. Last night I awoke early so as not to miss the time to leave, irritated her, then dreamed I was at a debate between religionists and atheists, and one of the atheists was shot by a sniper. So much for sleep. The Dog is yet to show up. Gotta leave or we’ll miss her train.
