What’s interesting in the news today?

We’ve got lot’s to choose from today.

UPDATE

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul is pulling a good ol’ fashioned fillibuster. He’s holding up the cloture vote for CIA nominee Brennan until he gets answers on the Obama drone program. He plans to keep it up until he can’t speak any more. Other Republicans are joining in. You can watch live at CSPAN 2 at the link below.

Since I pointed out the allegations against Senator Menendez, it’s only fair to point out this one too. This one alleges the prostitute has recanted her story.

From TheWashingtonPost

“An escort who appeared on a video claiming that Sen. Robert Menendez  (D-N.J.) paid her for sex has told Dominican authorities that she was instead paid to make up the claims and has never met or seen the senator, according to court documents and two people briefed on her claim.

The woman said a local lawyer had approached her and a fellow escort and asked them to help frame Menendez and a top donor, Salomon Melgen, according to affidavits obtained by The Washington Post.”

“Daily Caller Editor Tucker Carlson did not reply to phone calls and e-mails requesting comment.”

Now I included that last line for a reason. The Daily Caller says the Post story is inaccurate. The Post has the wrong prostitute. They also point out a discrepancy with the last line there from the Post.

From TheDailyCaller

“The Washington Post mistook one prostitute for another Monday in a report that  initially seemed to debunk a November 2012 Daily Caller exposé of New  Jersey Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez.”

“While the Post said it had an affidavit from a woman in the Dominican Republic  admitting she fabricated claims Menendez paid her for sex, that woman was not  one of the two prostitutes TheDC interviewed for a Nov. 1 report.”

Politico  get’s in on the act, as referee.

“ORIGINAL STORY: The Washington Post and the Daily Caller remain at odds over whether or not WaPo reporter Carol Leonnig reached out to TheDC for comment prior to reporting about the outlet’s involvement in a story pertaining to Dominican prostitutes and Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez.

The Daily Caller has now provided POLITICO with what it says is the first email Leonnig sent to Daily Caller editor Tucker Carlson on Monday night. According to the email as it was provided by TheDC, Leonnig sent her first email to Carlson at 5:35 p.m., more than half an hour after the Post posted its original story online. Her email — again, as provided by TheDC — includes an introduction and a link to the already-live story.”

UPDATE (1:07 p.m.): The Washington Post’s Carol Leonnig did not report that she had reached out to The Daily Caller for comment in her initial report. She later updated her story after reaching out to Carlson, noting that Carlson did not return requests for comment. But updated versions of the story did not — and, so far, do not — mention that the story was updated.

UPDATE (2:38 p.m.): The Daily Caller now points out that the Post has changed its story — again, without noting that the post has been updated — so that it no longer claims definitively that the Dominican prostitute who recanted her allegation against Sen. Menendez was the same one who appeared in a video posted by The Daily Caller. The Washington Post has yet to comment on why it does not note updates to its story.

Hmmmm…….

We also have some new developments in the Trayvon Martin case. You probably won’t hear much about this though. Doesn’t fit the meme.

From TheOrlandoSentinel

“Trayvon Martin’s girlfriend, the state’s most important witness in the George Zimmerman murder case, was caught in a lie Tuesday.

It was not the first piece of misinformation tied to her, but it was the most damaging to date and left prosecutors in a very awkward position.

They had to publicly acknowledge that their star witness had lied under oath and had to answer questions about what they intend to do about it.”

OK, now I’ll ask the obvious. Was she coached to lie by Al Sharpton, like he did with Tawana Brawley? It seems to be similar in that one case fell apart when it went to court, and this one seems to be faring just as poorly. The truth comes out.

Looks like Democrats have some explaining to do. They won’t of course, and the media is still on his side and will continue to carry his water so he doesn’t have to. But he should. Here’s further proof of what a fraud this whole Sequester thing has been. All of it orchestrated by the man who signed it into law.

From TheWashingtonTimes

“The Obama administration denied an appeal  for flexibility in lessening the sequester’s effects, with an email this week appearing to show officials in Washington that because they already had promised  the cuts would be devastating, they now have to follow through on that.”

“In the email sent Monday by Charles Brown,  an official with the Animal  and Plant Health Inspection Service office in Raleigh, N.C., Mr. Brown asked “if there was any latitude” in how to spread the sequester cuts  across the region to lessen the impacts on fish inspections.”

“He said he was discouraged by officials in Washington, who gave him this reply: “We have gone on record with a notification to Congress and whoever else that ‘APHIS would eliminate assistance to producers in 24 states in managing wildlife damage to the aquaculture industry, unless they provide funding to cover the costs.’ So it is our opinion that however you manage that reduction, you need to make sure you are not contradicting what we said the  impact would be.””

““This email confirms what many Americans have suspected: The Obama administration is doing everything they can to make sure their worst  predictions come true and to maximize the pain of the Sequester cuts for  political gain,” said Rep. Tim Griffin, Arkansas Republican.”

And they paraded out a bunch of flunkies to lie as well.

From TheTelegraphUK

“Ms Napolitano said today that major airports were seeing lines “150 to 200 percent as long as we would normally expect” as result of the federal spending cuts that went into force on Friday.”

“However, when contacted by The Daily Telegraph, spokespeople for both O’Hare and LAX, as well as representatives from the travel industry, denied that airports had been hit by delays.”

“Arne Duncan, the secretary of education, was widely criticised last month for saying that teachers were already being laid off because of the cuts, a claim without evidence. The Washington Post‘s Fact Checker blog awarded the claim four Pinocchios – its highest rating for falsehood.”

It’s a disaster of their own making. Just like they intended.

And even with all of this out and exposed, they just double down on the lies and intentionally inflicted pain.

From TheHill

“Members of the Congressional Black Caucus said Monday night that the $85 billion in cuts to federal spending, known as the sequester, will disproportionately affect blacks and other minorities, in part because they are more likely to work  for the government.

“Sequestration will impact everyone, but it will have  a particularly harmful effect on communities of color who were hit first and  worst by the great recession, and have yet to significantly feel the effects of  the recovery,” Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) said Monday.”

“”Federal budget cuts under sequestration would quickly mean cuts to federal, state and local public-sector jobs, which disproportionately employ women and African-Americans.””

And it’s only disproportionate because of reverse discrimination and sexism, which the govt is fine with and enables thru affirmative action.

    2. Personally, I think the cuts aren’t near severe enough. When my family is tight, we cut out EVERYTHING we don’t need. Let’s eliminate ALL the unnescessary government jobs 😀

Attorney General Eric Holder can imagine a scenario in which it would be constitutional to carry out a drone strike against an American on American soil, he wrote in a letter to Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
“It is possible, I suppose, to imagine an extraordinary circumstance in which it would be necessary and appropriate under the Constitution and applicable laws of the United States for the President to authorize the military to use lethal force within the territory of the United States,” Holder replied in a letter yesterday to Paul’s question about whether Obama “has the power to authorize lethal force, such as a drone strike, against a U.S. citizen on U.S. soil, and without trial.”
Paul condemned the idea. “The U.S. Attorney General’s refusal to rule out the possibility of drone strikes on American citizens and on American soil is more than frightening – it is an affront the Constitutional due process rights of all Americans,” he said in a statement.
Holder noted that Paul’s question was “entirely hypothetical [and] unlikely to occur,” but cited the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks as the type of incidents that might provoke such a response.
“Were such an emergency to arise, I would examine the particular facts and circumstances before advising the President on the scope of his authority,” he concluded.

  4. Here the problem with those out there that have determine that the Christian’s hate people who gay. You view is wrong, we do not hate people who gay. We believe they are trapped in sexual sin, we do not believe their standard and values should be the standard and value on the Nation. We are not the ones who are forcing our values and standard onto them and the nation. They are the ones. They are the ones stating that their values and standard on marriage should be the standard and values of the nation. They are the ones demanding that their civil rights be based not on being an American but based on their sexual behavior that is why it is call Gay Rights.

We believe that society has a right to debate the standard by which marriage for the nation should look like. We believe society has the right to debate which type marriage is best in raising children. Those who support gay rights, believes that society does not have the right to debate what marriage should look like, but judges and people in power should decide what marriage should look like. They believe it is judges, people in power, who should decide which type marriage is best in raising children.

Presently society has time and time again decide with the Christian Faith, that marriage is between one man and one woman, that the best environment in raising children is in a household with a father and a mother. What is happen is judges and people and those who support gay rights, have declare such views a hate, and those who believe in such views are bigots and trying to force their values onto the Nation. Which is where such people views are wrong.

No one, is trying to outlaw people from being gay, no one is trying to take away their freedom of speech, or trying to get them fired for their beliefs. That cannot be said for the GLBT Community and their supporters. They are trying to take away the Christian’s freedom of speech by bulling people and call our views hate, they are have been trying to get people removed from their jobs based on the support for marriage.

The fact is those who support the GLBT Community will never admit it because once they do, their argument for gay rights fall apart.

Society’s views and the Christian’s views are going to be in conflict in many areas, the reason is time and time again as our society embraces anti-Christian values, it becomes more aggressive in trying to silence the Christian who is remind them they are wrong. Which is happen in regard to the gay rights debate, Christian’s are standing up and speaking out and the supporters of Gay Rights are aggressive trying to silence the Christian who is remind them they are wrong. We not going to be silence, we are going to be the one stand and declare repent for your in trouble with God.

  5. When Cheney pushed for an imperial presidency, people cautioned him that it only appears to be a good idea when you agree with the president. The use of drones, the patriot act, domestic surveillance, etc all have its origins with Cheney. Its unfortunate but not surprising that Obama has continued the imperial presidency.

The sequester debate continues to amuse me as both sides continue to blame each other. I do think the Republicans could compromise and close tax loopholes in exchange for cuts they don’t like — ie military contracts in their districts. That should get things going

AJ — you missed the international story of the day — the death of Chavez, hero of the left and the bogeyman of the right.

  6. Read the Trayvon story. it appears the girlfriend says she was in the hospital at the time of the funeral. She wasn’t. This isn’t a major blow to the prosecutor’s case.

  7. HRW, Charles Krauthammer said today that Little Bush and Obama weren’t that far apart on drones, surveillance, etc. I think the people are with Obama just as they were with Bush.

I think the big story on the sequester is that people are noticing it is having virtually no effect on their lives.

  8. HRW,

You left out the part where she was caught lying about it under oath. Therefore I think it calls her credibility into question. The defense will have a field day with her.

You also left out the part where it isn’t the first piece of misinformation she provided. Good luck convincing a jury she’s credible. And this is their star witness, the “ear witness” if you will. This was nothing more than a show trial from the get go. It only takes one juror to aquit.

    Ricky,

Paul is still going with the filibuster. And he’s made an outstanding case against drones used against Americans without a warrant or just cause.
