Prayer Requests 1-26-13

What should we pray about today?

Psalm 91:1-2

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

  1. Thanks for the Psalm, AJ. It brings back fond memories of having memorized the whole psalm with 1st and 2nd Arrows in the early years of our homeschool experience. I’ll have to do that again with the younger children.

The two verses you posted were really needful for me this morning. I started feeling really off last night, woke up 3 times, two of those times with chest pain similar to what I get when I eat chocolate, but I hadn’t had any chocolate. (I did have chunky peanut butter, though, which I hadn’t had for a while, and I wonder if that’s what caused the trouble.)

But another part of me worries that I’m headed toward a heart attack, with other stresses I’ve been under, and I’m having a difficult time praying and “rest[ing] in the shadow of the Almighty”, Who is “my refuge and my fortress”.

    Prayers appreciated.

  2. Inconclusive on baby Aubree. Docs examined the MRI and sent her home. “Maybe she’ll just grow out of it.”

Curious answer after the emotional roller coaster the parents have ridden.

OTOH, lots of prayers for them, so maybe this is just God at work, strangely and mysteriously?

  3. 6 Arrows, could it be a peanut allergy? Some chocolate may be processed in plants where it comes in contact with peanuts. You might want to be tested.

    Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the many ways of discovery You give us when something seems to be going wrong with our bodies. Please shed light upon this problem 6 Arrows is experiencing. I pray she will not be suffering with it on a continuing basis. Please relieve the stress she feels. I ask on her behalf that You provide a source of comfort and a refuge from the stress. Please help her to feel in control of the homeschooling which can easily feel overwhelming to the mom. I pray her children will be cooperative and that they will easily understand their lessons and be eager to keep learning new things. Please give her good sleep, uninterupted, so she can feel refreshed upon awakening. Thank You, Lord, for taking good care of 6 Arrows so she can do her part in taking care of all those arrows You gave her! Please bless her husband with renewed strength after his great exertion to meet the requirements of his work. You are so good in Your many ways of provision. Please bless all who come here on this website today for we are believers who trust in You as our God. We have no other god to turn to for You are the only living God. In Jesus’ name, Amen

  4. Prayer for Troy and Jodi as he learns to show her that he loves her and values her. Pray that God would restore them to Him and each other.

Prayer for the missionaries in Central America and South America. That God would use the people they are dealing with to bring the missionaries into a closer walk with Him and the people would see it and desire it.

  5. Thank you for the prayers, Ricky and Janice and all who are praying.

Janice, I’ve wondered, too, about peanut allergy. I sometimes get tight feeling in the chest after eating peanuts or peanut butter, and sometimes not. I usually prefer chunky peanut butter over creamy peanut butter, but lately it’s been the creamy p.b. that I’ve been eating (without any apparent problem) because we were out of the chunky. So when I went back to chunky last night, I wondered if the chest pain was due to that. Second Arrow has had some difficulty tolerating peanuts and nuts, so maybe she inherited something from me that I don’t know I have??

OTOH, the three times I woke up last night, I was having chest pain the first and third times, but not the second time, so that’s what made me wonder if it was heart-related or something else. It doesn’t seem like a food-related issue when pain comes and goes. It seems like it would be a fairly steady problem until the food was out of my system. All I know is, I don’t like thinking about these things in the middle of the night!

You are right that I should probably get things checked out, though.

  6. Just wanted to let y’all know my sister and her children arrived safely in Rwanda yesterday. Thanks to everyone who lifted them up in prayer. HG went with them. Please continue to pray for her emotional well-being as she is still struggling with depression.

  7. 6 arrows, gallbladder attack maybe? I think those can occur from eating some kinds of foods.

A man I know from the dog park (who had a history of heart issues) went into ER one night, he and his wife were afraid he was having a heart attack. But it wound up being gallstones — he was having a particularly strong gallbladder attack. I guess it’s kind of in the same area, but more on the right side/top of the rib cage area where the pain occurs. And apparently gallbladder flare-ups are not an uncommon ailment.

  8. Donna, my mom had gallbladder problems way back when. Not pleasant at all from what I’ve heard. I don’t think I’m having trouble with that, as the pain wasn’t on the right side only. It was a pretty even feeling of tightness/pressure all across my chest a little below my collarbone. Not bad pressure, either; nothing that was making me short of breath or anything. Still kind of scary, though, at night. Today the pressure is gone, and it’s just a simple tight feeling is all. Maybe being upright rather than lying down is making the difference?

  9. Home from church today, not feeling right again, despite a good night’s sleep. Same physical symptoms as yesterday morning and afternoon, plus a little bit of lightheadedness and tingling in the wrists and hands today. Thankfully, although it felt like my heart was pounding a lot yesterday (I didn’t mention that here, I don’t think), that has diminished quite a bit today, so at least there is one thing that has improved from yesterday to today.

  10. 6 Arrows – If these symptoms persist into Monday, I think it would be a very good idea to call your doctor. You have six little arrows who need you! And I’m sure Mr. 6 Arrows likes having you around, too. 😉

  11. Yes, I probably should call. Trouble is, I’m stubborn. I hate seeking medical treatment unless I’m quite sure I need it. I’m more of a ride-it-out-at-home person, if I can.

And my husband wasn’t too concerned, I guess, since he and the others (except our five-year-old) went ahead to church, leaving me here basically by myself, which makes me think I’m probably just making a bigger deal out of this than it is. He loves me, and if it seemed really bad to him, he would definitely take me in.

And I do feel much better right now, having laid around most of the morning. 🙂

Thanks for your prayers and concern, Karen.

  12. I hate seeking medical treatment, too, & usually wait until something is really bad. With illnesses that can be easily treated, that’s not too bad, but there are certain issues that should be dealt with sooner rather than later.

May God give us stubborn women the wisdom to take care of ourselves in an appropriate way. 🙂

  13. One other thought 6 Arrows, could you possibly have been dehydrated? That can make the body do weird things.

Going to the doctor is prudent, but I can relate to waiting to see if it gets worse, too.

  14. Thanks for the prayers, Kare — and your 2 cents worth too 😉

Funny thing, I think I just figured out where the tingling wrists and hands are coming from. I’ve been playing Beethoven’s Pathetique Sonata on the piano pretty regularly for the last couple months (Beethoven is a great stress buster). It’s quite demanding in the two fast movements, but very exhilarating to play. I just finished playing it a little while ago, and my wrists and hands started tingling like crazy right after I got done! I think I’m getting too aggressive in the fast and loud parts and may be injuring myself in the process. Perhaps Beethoven has added to my stress rather than diminished it! So I may just try to find something a little more soothing and healing to play on the piano for a while. 🙂

  15. Janice, dehydration is certainly a possibility. Thanks for mentioning that. I’m not very attuned to how much water I’m taking in during the day. I used to have dizzy spells during some of my pregnancies, and one of my midwives told me that dehydration can cause that. I only had the dizzy/lightheaded feeling this morning for a while after I woke up, and because I had slept so well, I wasn’t up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. Could have been a factor.

  16. Kare, I never liked scales and arpeggios, either, and I still don’t play them. (Don’t have much time to play piano, so I just sit down and get right to the good stuff.) 🙂

  17. 6 arrows, maybe it’s also a bit of stress (in which the symptoms of the original stress then become the cause of the stress and only perpetuate themselves!).

I hate going to the doctor to, I’m always sure it’ll be something rare and terminal, worthy of a tragic made-for-TV (probably Lifetime) movie. 😉

  18. Donna, that first paragraph has a lot of stress in it 😉 And cause, and effect, and perpetual motion, and round and round we go…Yes, I know just what you mean!
