What’s interesting in the news today?

Here’s a couple to start off with.

Would I find this shocking? No.

In fact, I seem to remember mentioning it before. They don’t deserve the influence they wield with this admin.

From TheInvestigativeProject

“An Egyptian magazine claims that six American Islamist activists who work with the Obama administration are Muslim Brotherhood operatives who enjoy strong influence over U.S. policy.

The Dec. 22 story published in Egypt’s Rose El-Youssef magazine (read an IPT translation here) suggests the six turned the White House “from a position hostile to Islamic groups and organizations in the world to the largest and most important supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

The story is largely unsourced, but its publication is considered significant in raising the issue to Egyptian readers.

The six named people include: Arif Alikhan, assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy development; Mohammed Elibiary, a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Council; Rashad Hussain, the U.S. special envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference; Salam al-Marayati, co-founder of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC); Imam Mohamed Magid, president of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA); and Eboo Patel, a member of President Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships.”

Here comes the nonsense. And from where else but the elected officials of the state that’s got the murder capital of the US. “Cuz they’re experts at preventing gun violence.

From FoxNews

“Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict  semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun  control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of  firearms groups.

Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent  alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to  push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its  alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state  police and avoid prosecution.””

OK wait. 1 more. I just have to.

Pay your fair share Al! Don’t be a hypocrite.

From theNYTimes

“Al Jazeera on Wednesday announced a deal to take over Current TV, the low-rated cable channel that was founded by Al Gore, a former vice president, and his business partners seven years ago. Al Jazeera plans to shut Current and start an English-language channel, which will be available in more than 40 million homes, with newscasts emanating from both New York and Doha, Qatar.

For Al Jazeera, which is financed by the government of Qatar, the acquisition is a coming of age moment. A decade ago, Al Jazeera’s flagship Arabic-language channel was reviled by American politicians for showing videotapes from Al Qaeda members and sympathizers. Now the news operation is buying an American channel, having convinced Mr. Gore and the other owners of Current that it has the journalistic muscle and the money to compete head-to-head with CNN and other news channels in the United States.

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. But the deal was not signed until Wednesday.”

  1. Warning: All Democrats in the D/FW area should hide in their closets today. We have 100,000 Aggies and Okies in town for the Cotton Bowl and I haven’t seen a single Obama sticker on any of their trucks.

  2. Your killing me Ricky.

    😆

As to the Muslim Brotherhood connection, it would not surprise me if this bunch were the ones who wrote the talking points for Susan Rice on the Bengazi terror attack.

  3. AJ — the Muslims in question are mostly born in the US, are Indian and are career civil servants/academics. The magazine in question used to be pro-Mubarak and probably has maintained its anti-Brotherhood viewpoint. Seems like a lot of conjecture which is normal in Arab journalism where a new conspiracy is born everyday.

There seems to be a lot rumor mongering from the gun lobby to pre-empt any attempt at regulation. As much as I think guns should be regulated at least as much as cars, I doubt there will be much change.

Al Gore probably is a hypocrite to some extent but to be fair its probably the accountants and lawyers who in charge of the actual transaction who raised the issue of taxation.

Yesterday I mentioned Icelandic bankers in jail. It seems I jumped the gun. They were charged and found guilty of fraud and were sentenced just last week to nine months in jail of which six were suspended for two years. For a Nordic country thats pretty severe.

  4. Ricky,

What do you think of this?

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/01/04/only-in-ny-spurs-jackson-trips-over-bloombergs-waitress-leaves-game/

“Spurs forward Stephen Jackson left San Antonio’s 100-83 loss to the Knicks after spraining his right ankle when he crashed into a waitress working the sideline in front of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

“Guess who just contributed to the crime rate in NYC,” tweeted New York Daily News reporter Frank Isola.”

  5. Reports of crucifixions are unconfirmed — in this day and age it should’ve been on youtube by now.

Mubarak supporters did beat, kill, fire-bomb, and rape their opponents. Actually just about anything but crucifixion.

Its unfortunate that rumor-mongering and conspiracies are the news coming from Egypt as opposed to the very real threat of censorship. We may not like it but the Brotherhood did win the election (as did Hamas in Gaza). Optimistically, I would hope the responsibility of governance would temper their idiocy but ideology and religion have a way of producing myopic rulers.

And Denial is not a River in Egypt. When an ultra liberal paper like the daily mail reports it, along with such reputable organizations like Voice of Martyrs, I have to wonder what type of world view you subscribe to.

  7. AJ, I’m a Thunder fan, but Tychicus is going to be hot. Bloomberg should remember what Jackson has done in the past to unruly Northern fans.

  8. Re: Al Gore. Democrats are not hypocrites, get it right, AJ! They can say one thing and do the opposite anytime they want to. It’s not hypocrisy when they do so. It’s called something else, but I don’t know what.

  9. On FoxNews, Steve Hayes was talking about Chuck Hagel as SecDef.

    Definitely not qualified.
His term is the Senate was lackluster, he accomplished nothing.

He accomplished more than Obama, Steve.
