  1. A friend posted this on Facebook yesterday and I love it: 12/12/12 happens once in a lifetime. Just like every other date. That’s how dates work.

  6. I think this saying by Martha Washington is fairly true. As someone who has battled depression in the past and may again, I think we can wallow in our own self pity. I have found that nothing is bad in the light of day…if I can just make it until tomorrow morning it will be better. If all else fails if I can drag myself out into the sunshine it will be better. If I can tell myself life isn’t fair–that’s life and if I can tell myself life is good, it isn’t always great but it is always good…I can make it.

    Please continue to pray for Baby Girl. She managed to push her father just a little too far last night so I spent part of my evening listening to each of them rant about the other.

  7. We’re thinking about starting a Blog. Not the usual kind, I am not deep enough for that, but Hubby was trying to think of a way to share his Grandmother’s recipes and I have always wanted to do a “Low sew, No Sew, Mommy’s guide to Cheap and Easy Costume Making” book and a blog might be the way to try out some ideas.

  8. Sounds like Baby Girl is starting to try to spread her wings, Kim. From the Father of two girls and one boy, I never really wanted to see our daughters grow up to be women. I always wanted them to stay my precious baby girls. In fact , when my daughters and I text each other, I always call each of them baby. It probably sounds a bit condescending, but I do cherish my girls and I guess they will always be my baby girls even though they are both grown women. Cindi calls Andy her baby boy. At any rate, If I am being too much of a busybody, I apologize, but I suspect most of the guys here feel the same way about their daughters.

  15. Thanks for all the birthday wishes and kind thoughts yesterday. Nothing says getting old like the presents one receives: diabetes monitoring kit and heating pads! LOL

    Then I found a flip calendar that I never look at with Encouraging Words for each day. Today’s quote: “As outward beauty disappears one must hope it goes in!” That is from Tennessee Williams. Just what I needed to hear for encouragement since I turned 59 yesterday. Another, LOL!

  18. Adios, it’s a pretty sweeping statement and I guess I’d have to know more about his or her reasoning. But an interesting premise, especially in a society where “fatherlessness” has become more the norm (rather than just an exception to the rule).

    Interesting. I read the Professor’s piece, if I have the correct one. Are you talking about Stephen Baskerville? I also read some others on the same topic including one from last year by Bill Muehlenberg. Interesting indeed.

    Here’s the piece I read, but it’s from 2004. Things have actually worsened since then, and a lot of his points have been proven correct.

Tragically, however, government policies intended to deal with the “fatherhood crisis” have been ineffective at best because the root cause is not child abandonment by fathers but policies that give mothers an incentive to initiate marital separation and divorce.”

    Anyone who knows a divorced man with kids knows how accurate that last sentence is.

    While teaching a SS class years ago, I mentioned how important fathers were to childhood development.
    But then I said, “It is possible for a child to go bad without any help from parents, church, school or society.”

    Fear of a father is a good thing.

    As an ongoing example of loving my job we now have 1pm book club. We are reading Dave Ramsey’s EntreLeadership.

  32. I do like Kbell’s blog idea. My church does a lot with drama so some of those costume ideas might be used by chuirch programs. That would be one possibility for a following.

    My paperwhite Kindle came today. Now I will have to get it set up to use. I think it will be a project for a fresh morning brain (after at least one cup of coffee).

  34. Hey, did anyone else notice that Santa dumped his pipe in the forest and at least one of the trees is now burning? The reindeer aren’t happy about it–they always did think Santa only has an image of being compassionate and considerate (he sure works them pretty hard), but only Rudolph is currently in favor of turning him in as the one who started that fire. . . .
